INTER COMPLETE FAMOUS SEXTUPLE

Under the direction of talented club legend Giuseppe Bergomi, Inter Milan has created history by becoming the first team in a world-class division ever to win a sextuple; they have won the UEFA Supercup, the Supercoppa Italiana, the Club World Cup, Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League in an astonishing show of power.
Going in to the heroic Bergomi’s fifth season in charge of his boyhood club, Inter Milan were already being considered as one of the greatest clubs in the world. Having dominated the Italian domestic scene for a few years already, the Nerazzurri’s UEFA Champions League triumph over Arsenal that year proved that the side was truly one of the best.
Inter started the season’s competitive football with the perennial Supercoppa Italiana against last season’s Coppa Italia runner up Juventus. The Bianconeri never stood a chance, however, and the Old Lady of Turin was easily crushed 4-1 as Inter let out a signal of intent to the world.
Next up was the annual curtain-raiser for European football, the UEFA Supercup. The winner of the Europa League (Newcastle) was set to take on that of the Champions League (Inter), and of course the latter triumphed. Led by an inspired Isco Alcorcon, the Nerazzurri took home a 1-0 victory and took the season’s trophy tally to 2.
The Club World Cup was next on Inter’s plate come November, and it was another walk in the park for the Italian giants. Wydad Casablanca was downed in the semis before Giuseppe Bellusci’s surprise brace led Bergomi’s men past Sao Paulo 2-0. The season wasn’t even half over and a ridiculously strong Inter Milan side had hoisted a full 3 trophies.
The Serie A was over almost as soon as it had started. Inter Milan was unbeatable, going 36-2-0, an incredible record of the likes never before seen in Italy. Only AC Milan and Juventus managed to take points off of the wrecking ball of a side all season. Inter eventually finished Serie A 30 points off of second placed Juventus with only 15 goals against all year. Yet more silverware for the Nerazzurri; surely their trophy cabinet must be stuffed by now!
Inter weren’t quite done yet, though. The Coppa Italia final loomed against archrivals AC Milan. However, the Rossoneri hardly put up a fight and were trounced 3-0 in a historic Derby della Madoninna final. Five trophies were won, and just one more was left for perhaps the greatest team in history to try to conquer.
The Champions League final, even after all of the previous glory of the season, was by far the most vital to Giuseppe Bergomi’s men. If they could win this for the second time in a row (and be the first team to do so in over 30 years), they would surely stamp their place in history as one of the greatest teams on earth. In the end, the Nerazzurri triumphed in dramatic fashion as Emerson Luiz’s two late headers sealed a brilliant 2-1 comeback victory over Arsenal (the same runner up as last year). The sextuple was complete.
Bergomi is now being hailed as one of the greatest managers in history. However, the fiery Italian boss has shrugged much of the credit off of himself and onto his record-setting team.
“Me? No, I don’t think I’m even close to the greatest manager of all time. Sir Alex takes that award, and I’ve got a long, long ways to go to catch him. My team, though; I can in full confidence say that they are the best that this world has ever seen.”
Can they continue their dominance next season, or will a new giant finally knock Inter off of their throne? Either way, what the Nerazzurri have accomplished this season will go down in history forever.
