:( You couldn't beat them.

Do it in the second leg, just for me :P
Really nice update, as always, your writing is just too damn good! Unlucky to lose to Bayern, but maybe you can pull off the impossible at the Allianz! :D
The young couple walked down by Frauenkirche, arm in arm. The two had arrived in Bavaria the day before, and had spent the evening at a small brewery in the center. It wasn't very well known, in fact, it was very exclusive. So exclusive, in fact, that you couldn't get in without an invitation from one of the members. In fact, most film and TV celebrities can't even get a table at the place, simply because they don't know the right people.

But Bendiš did... and, while the rest of Hajduk flew out later in the evening, the couple walked down a small set of sets into a room which has been seen by very few people in Europe. A picture of the brewmaster with Beckenbauer, Hitzfeld and the Champions League trophy at the old Olympiastadion hung on the wall, next to a jersey from the same season signed by every member of the team. There were other pieces of indication of kind of people frequented the club: one of one hundred original shares of Rapp Motorenwerke, now BMW, was framed on the wall. The Wittelsbach family's shield was mounted above a long table in the middle. The original composition of Mozart's 31st symphony hung above a small table in the corner. And so on. A plaque of lifetime members was near the entrance, and if you looked at it, you might find that nearly every member on it was from one of those families that secretly controlled Europe. And the rest of them were the people that did so - not so secretly.

It wasn't very formal though, Bendiš didn't wear his tuxedo, or a tie for that matter. Just his flattering suit, which he got on a trip to a friend in Milan. And his girlfriend wore a simple black dress. It was, though, by far the best meal either of them had ever had, and although Bendiš was not thrilled when Rummenigge surprised him that morning in Split, he was more than happy to have dinner on the house in Munich. Rummenigge did stop by, but only to say hello later in the evening, as the couple took their coats and walked back to the hotel.

Later, after dessert on the balcony, the two of them looked out over the city, and Bendiš kissed her, before the two retired for the evening.

BAYERN FINISH IT OFF
HAJDUK 1-2 BAYERN
Bendiš shook hands with the Uli Hoeneß before the match, and Lucien Favre afterwards, after Bayern scored two goals in 4 minutes. It was unlucky, as Hajduk had defended valiantly, but with time in the first half rapidly running out, Mario Mandžuki? smacked a ball off the post, in the Bavarian's first chance of the match. Hajduk nearly scored off of a counter in the second, before Thomas Müller scored just off the hour. Hajduk fans groaned, as Leroy Fer gave a simple through ball and one of Bayern's only home-grown players ghosted into the box before placing it past Blaževi?. Wilfried Bony did the same, not 5 minutes later. Hajduk did get a goal back, which just made Bendiš a little bit sadder, as he knew that if the result in Split was in his favour, Hajduk would have gone through.

Perhaps next year then... it's what Bendiš keeps saying to himself. Every year, he comes to Split, and with his best friend, sits all night on the balcony of his café, cradling a scotch, and discussing mundane ideals...

Unlucky to lose out again in the knockout rounds :/ Hopefully next season you'll get an easier draw and you might be able to progress!

"What are you doing here?" A fat, well dressed Italian man walked onto Bendiš's balcony. Bendiš, was chatting with his friend after they had gone to church. Their girlfriends were out somewhere else, they normally went somewhere before coming back for lunch later in the afternoon.

"I'm sorry Timmy, I have no idea how... or frankly who -", before the waitress was interrupted by the Italian

"Don't worry, mi bella, it's okay."

"Yes, sir, the café is downstairs... I'm delighted that you like my café and everything Sir. Mr.?"

"Francesco Monti"

"... Mr. Monti..."

"Sí"

"Sit down Mr. Monti. We're going to be right back. Okay?"

"Yes. It's okay. Can I have a cup of coffee?"

"Sure, I'll have one sent up."

---

"Can you explain to me, quickly, what the hell Francesco Monti is doing on the upper level of my café in full swing of the Italian Serie A? I would understand if it was holiday season. This is a popular café. He is a very, very rich man. And this is a tourist town. He probably feels entitled to special treatment, sure. I get it. But what is he doing here on April 1st, with 6 games left to play, in a Serie A that was as tight as it was at the beginning of the season?"

-"I don't know. Luis Enrique's been at Inter for three years. They're 6th. They've been 5th for three seasons in a row. It's not exactly that he's been underperforming."

"Well, what do we do?!"

-"I don't know. How the hell should I know?"

"Okay, let's go back there and figure this out..."

---

"Oh shit, the coffee... Love, grab a cup of coffee would you, please", Bendiš was hanging onto the pole of the spiral staircase, hanging at a preposterous 45 degree angle, calling for his waitress

"Yeah boss, give it a minute"

And he was gone, up the stairs, again.

---

Composing himself before he walked back out onto the balcony. Baldini was chatting with his best friend, idly, not really paying attention to the conversation.

"Good afternoon Mr. Baldini, as you may imagine, I wasn't expecting you. It is an odd time to take a vacation."

"-Oh, Mr. Bendiš, I assure you, this is not a vacation. I am here strictly on business".

"Ah, but I'm almost certain that you can't afford Kiš. Are you here to buy Tičinović?"

"-No, Mr. Bendiš - thank you for the coffee, love"

"You do know that affiliates are done with the board, not with the manager. And we all know you're not in the market for a manager. Luis Enrique's been with the club for years now..."

"-See Mr. Bendiš, Luis Enrique has been... how do we call it... relieved of his employment with us..."

Silence

"You're fifth."

"-Sixth Mr. Bendiš"

More silence... Monti calmly sipped his coffee.

"-Look Mr. Bendiš. You make, what, 200 000 € a year?"

The stunned Bendiš was staring at his hands. "um. 350. I just signed a new contract last week".

"-Hmmm... listen. We want the Champions League back. We know you want it too. We haven't been in the running since we lost Mourinho. But frankly, you're probably the only person that can beat Mourinho... given a decent squad. So we want you at Inter."

"In Milan..."

"-You'd be working with Giuseppe Baresi. For 1.3 million euros a year."

Even more silence. In fact, Bendiš didn't speak for a while. Monti sat their patiently. He didn't answer for about 10 minutes. And then, completely unexpected, he said,

"You're going to have to give me a minute, excuse me."

And with that, he walked out. Monti and Bendiš's best friend watched him walk down the street, everyone said hi, but Bendiš was completely distraught. A few people asked the waitress if he was okay, to which she responded that she didn't know.

He walked further down, said hi to a few of the café owners. He was calming down, but not much. The street was relatively full. The weather was finally nearing spring, and the sun had come out from behind the clouds. Bendiš continued down the street.

Milan was his dream. Not this Milan... Never this Milan. He was 19 when AC Milan rejected his trial, saying he was too big for football. And he never played at that level. The doctors in Split told him that he couldn't continue playing. But Inter? He would've never said yes. But now? This was a huge deal. And he wasn't getting any younger.

Then he saw her. She smiled at him, and flipped her hair. Bendiš took one look, and remembered every detail. He ran over and kissed her. He wasn't leaving Split. This was their home.

And, at exactly that moment, Francesco Monti started saying goodbye.

"But he's not back yet... why are you leaving?"

"-He's not coming to Milan. Look at them, he's not leaving her for anything in the world"

And he stood up, paid way too much for the coffee, and took his car to the airport. Someone else would have to do.
Wow, I don't usually read storyline updates, but that was very engaging. I would've found it hard to resist if I was at your level, but for the sake of the story, it was the best move.
Nice update!
What a brilliant story, unlucky with the Bayern result. You will get revenge on them soon! Good luck with the rest of you story, I will be following to the very end!:P
Another brilliant update about rejected Inter. Hajduk for life! :)

LJUBI?I? SCORES 4, BUT TOMI KIŠ WINS THE SEASON
HAJDUK 5-0 SLAVEN BELUPO - M. LJUBI?I? x4, F. ANDRIJAŠEVI?
There are few cities better than Split for a sports celebration. Especially since Hajduk have come back to power. The city is very well known for welcoming Goran Ivaniševi? for the Wimbledon win. Split is one of the most sporty cities in the world, rivaled, only, perhaps, by Marseille. And it shows, because the city loves the club.

But what's so special about this specific league win?

Bendiš was sitting in his café, after a not so spectacular season. He had lost the cup, and the Champions League was still a pipe dream. His girlfriend sat with his best friend and his girlfriend as the locally famous trio batted out a jazz rendition of the James Bond theme.

No, this year was special. This year, Tomi Kiš had enjoyed a spectacular haul of 31 goals. Meanwhile, everywhere else? Well... no one enjoyed a pleasant season. Kiki Ronaldo and Lionel Messi enjoyed only 33 goals between them. No, the reason Split was celebrating was because, next to Bendiš's scotch, on top of the piano was a Golden Boot with Kiš's name on it. Kiš was somewhere out celebrating, but the party was at Bendiš's, where a fiercely proud manager proudly possessed the European Golden Boot.

It's the first non-big-five top goalscorer since 1990. And the youngest in 9 years. And it all comes as Bendiš prepares for another Champions League campaign, which will, no doubt, be magnificent.

Bendiš got up. He wasn't sober, but, really, no one was. And he began speaking. "Here's to another great year at the club. We'll see you all in September", and he lifted his glass to rousing applause, before he collapsed back at the piano, and banged out a closing number
Tomi Kiš is just too good! :D
Kis <3 :) Anyway, great writing Timmy. Turning down Milan must have been tough, by I feel it was the right decision. :) Good Luck!
Great decision turning Inter down :P
This story keeps getting better and better! Some superb updates and congrats on winning the league! :D
