KIŠ RENEWS HAJDUK CONTRACT
Just one year after signing a 5 year contract extension, Kiš extended it an additional year, for a lot more money. It doesn't look like the smartest move in the book on the management's side of things until you take a look at the context.
See, before Kiš signed the new contract, there was some serious interest in the Croatian forward from Liverpool, Paris, Dortmund and Tottenham. The English champions looked at it as a younger, better, cheaper version of Fabio Borini, while Paris, who until a month ago were interested in Borini, thought pretty much the same thing, except they had the financial muscle to break Hajduk.
And it looked like it wouldn't be so hard. See, Kiš's agent managed to get a release clause into the original 5 year shenanigan, amounting to 24.75 M €. Sure, it breaks Hajduk's transfer income record several times over. But, Kiš is one of the best Hajduk players in years. This is the youngest player in the history of Croatia to have a 30 goal season, with all signs pointing to the fact that he will get even better.
No, the real reason Hajduk is giving Kiš a 300 000 € raise is to get rid of two clauses. 1.) The infamous "match highest earner" clause. Bendiš just hates that. And 2.) the 24.75 M € release fee. Kiš's agent, however, insisted on a release clause... and he got one...
1 150 000 000 €. Cash.
Your move Ancelotti.
