League Table

Champions League Group B Table

What a month. We had been on an outrageous run in October and then the first game in November we lost to a team we had just beaten. We didn’t keep a single clean sheet and I was furious but so gobsmacked. The loss against Sochaux hasn’t been damaging and we have held on to the top spot while the draw against Basel has meant we have qualified after 5 games. I was not happy with the way we played this month. We should have won all the games as none of the teams are very strong and we shouldn’t have conceded as many goals. Allione is out for 3 months with a torn hamstring and that’s the 4th player to be hit by this. I don’t understand how this has happened so many times this season. Watt has been on fire and currently sits on 19 goals in just 13 games in the league and 24 goals in 17 games so far in all competitions. What a guy and he is only 19. I have nothing but praise for the lad! December has 5 very winnable games again and hopefully we can keep it tighter at the back this month!

Emotional and Surprising Phone Call

Training had just finished and the boys were relaxing and getting massages in the massage room. I had just thrown a bucket of ice on Malbranque and escaped to the confines of my office before he could even realise it was me. The last month wasn’t the greatest in terms of our defence but I know there’s a lot left in this team and they want to really stamp their foot down in France and Europe. I was feeling very proud of these boys and I know they’ve all been trying the hardest they can.

Allione has picked up a serious injury and I am gutted for him. He’s been absolutely brilliant for an 18 year old and a 3-month injury is not going to be the best thing for him. I hope he can recover and come back even stronger because he will be amazing!

Just then the shrill ring of my phone interrupted my thoughts. Nothing prepared me for the shock of the voice I heard on the other end.

“Hello Remi. How are you? It really has been a long time”

Was this a sick joke? The man who ran out on my mother when I was just a boy? What the hell was he doing ringing me, especially while I’m at work?!

“I’m sorry son. I know it has been years but I couldn’t bring myself to speak to you any earlier. I am embarrassed and disappointed in myself for doing what I did to you and your mother. She didn’t deserve it and neither did you.”

“Who the f*ck do you think you are? Calling me at my work after 35 years of not seeing me? You have no right to talk to me like I am your son. I don’t know you and I have nothing to say to you.”

Just as I was about to hang up he shouted, “Wait! I have something to tell you and then you can make up your mind on what to do. Remi, I need your help. I was diagnosed with cancer and it is terminal. I don’t want your money, I just want to see you and speak to you. I want to meet your family and kids. I want them to see I am not the same man I was when I did that horrible thing all those years ago.”

I sat utterly speechless. How could I say no to this kind of request? No matter what terrible thing he did, he was a dying man. I said to him to give me his number and I hung up. Tears rolled down my face as I digested the news he just told me. I paced the room, poured a glass of whiskey and just stood there.
:O What will Remi do now?

The Job Offer

I had been linked with the P$G job earlier this season in October but had no reason to think about it because I was a Lyon man. Carlo Ancelotti left P$G in 2012 to join AC Milan. It is now a year later and the man has left to join Chelsea.

Before the bookmakers could even link me to the job AC Milan came knocking. I spoke to the disgraced Chairman Berlusconi on the phone and he explained why they were coming after me.

“Mr Garde. Please hear me out before you make any decision. We have been extremely impressed by the work you have done at Lyon. The transfers you made proved to be extremely shrewd and beneficial for the club, while you have also overachieved with a team like Lyon. We believe you are the perfect manager to take Milan forward. We want the team to be transformed and we want to be challenging at the top again, exactly the way you have done with Lyon. We will give you a 5 year contract for €52,000 a week.”

I sat there on the verge of laughing at him. To be honest I didn’t disagree with him. I had done a pretty impressive job here at Lyon and the transfers have all been for the future. We have taken the French footballing world by storm and are doing the same in Europe. Italy is a gorgeous place and I always wanted to play there but never had the chance. Now I have the chance to join and manage.

“Thank you for the kind words but unfortunately what you do not realise is that there is a reason I have bought the players I have. I am building a team for the future, we are going to become the best footballing team in the world. We are going to become the richest club in the world at my hand and frankly I have no interest in a new project so shortly in to my career here. This club is in my heart and AC Milan are frankly all over the place. I have no interest in your job offer or your club.”

“Very well Mr Garde we appreciate the time taken to speak to us. Good luck with your future at the club.”

Had I made a mistake in turning this job down? Would I get the chance to manage in Italy again? For now I knew in my heart that I would never leave this club until I had made my time at this club into a legacy.
Good choice mate, turn Lyon into perennial Champs Leagues winners, than go off to Italy :p
1
Good choice Krupesh! When I join a club and work for the future as you did, I plan to stay there for at least 10 years to fully perceive my objectives! :)

P.S. In FM12 I stayed in Oviedo for 20 seasons winning everything! :P
