Summer Transfers

With Mouhamadou Dabo annoyed with his restricted playing time and Arnold Mvuemba getting older I decided it best to sell them while they were still under contract.

Dabo went for €6 million to Marseille in a deal that I am sure won’t be good business for them and Mvuemba joined Napoli for €8 million.

Michel Bastos also finished his loan spell with Schalke and he was on €90,000. For a 30-year-old that was not in my plans this was outrageous and I decided to put him up for sale. Lokomotiv Moscow came in and bought him for €7 million. I also have to pay Bastos €44,500 until next summer but I would rather that than have him waste away in the reserves for a season.

That gave me a total transfer budget of €56 million. I immediately identified a player I wanted to bring in to play at right back. Davide Santon. He had been transfer listed by Newcastle but he ultimately joined P$G as they offered him €80,000 more on his contract than I was prepared to do. After selling two French players I decided the next one in should be French. Sebastien Corchia was the next one I wanted. He had developed well and would be a first team player if he joined from Sochaux.

He had been transfer listed after I signalled my intentions of buying him in the press and I paid €7.5 million up front, with another €7.5 million to be paid over 48 months.

Kyle Gonzalez joined on a free transfer from Bayern Munich again and will be put on loan to get some first team experience.

Carlos Poveda is another played who has joined on a free from Barcelona B. He will also be sent on loan to get experience and the opportunity to develop.

With the wings needing reinforcements I scouted several players but none seemed to want to really join. I struggled to understand this because we are a growing club with a growing reputation and we have European glory in our sights. Eduardo Salvio was listed by Benfica but at €15 million I didn’t think he was really worth it. One player that had been picked out by my scouts was Younes Belhanda. The Moroccan was Montpellier’s best player by far and would be a great signing, especially after Clement Grenier broke his leg. He can play through the middle and out on the right and I decided to set up a package deal for him. Montpellier accepted a deal with €15.5 million for him and he joins immediately on a 5-year contract worth €48,000 per week.

Three more players joined. Owen Granger from Leeds is a 17-year-old wonderkid and is predicted to become the best left back in the world. He signed for €6 million, on a 3-year contract.

Philippe Lecroix is a right back and at 16 has an amazing future ahead of him. He is a French youngster and joined for €3.1 million from Troyes. Man City and Man Utd both had offers in for this player so I am thrilled to have beaten them to his signing.

The 3rd youngster and final player to join was Macky Bagnack from Barcelona. He had a release clause in his contract for €6,000. Yes that’s right!! Another defender who will be nothing more than back up at Lyon, he shows good defensive skills and will get a few games here and there.

I am extremely happy with the signings and I definitely believe we are building an immense squad for the future. All players here will end up getting first team action, with the majority being first team starters at some point in their careers with me. Corchia and Belhanda have been signed to play straight away while the others will have time to develop and hopefully become first team starters in the next few years.
Wow, they're all great signings! Screw P$G for taking Santon away from you!

Belhanda is an amazing signing, Corchia is great as well. And hopefully those youth players can come through for you!

P.S Watch out for Belhanda's long shots, they tend to injure the fans a lot. :P

Holy cow! How much did PSG offer to Santon ultimately? That's a lot of money. I bought him in the first transfer window of my Man Utd save as a cover for both full-back positions and I'm only paying him 29,000 pounds per week.

Wow. Great signings. unlucky at missing out on Santon but good job getting who you signed.

Louis: I'm not too fussed :p Corchia is class and French

SFL: Haha thanks mate I will keep an eye out. I think I'll tell him not to do that :p

Gurdit: They gave him €130,000 haha I only offered him just under €60,000.

Edu: Thanks mate! Definitely got some strong signings and I think they have made the squad a lot stronger after I sold Mvuemba, Bastos and Dabo

Preseason and August Match Updates

The friendlies were taken by Bruno, my assistant manager, as I have no real interest in them and there were many good performances from different players but this was not going to have any real impact on my decisions on who to start. We had one more friendly after playing Marseille in the Trophee des Champions and then it was on to the start of the league season.

League Table

Champions League Draw

The first game was not the best start to the league we could have had after demolishing our rivals Marseille but the games that followed showed how strong we are and what can be expected in the season to come. The standout player has to be Alexandre Lacazette, who has scored 5 goals in 4 league games. Watt in comparison has had a slow start and Yassine Benzia is outrageously strong so it is a tough decision who to play up front. The stupid organisation has demoted France’s European rating and that meant we were seeded 2nd for the Champions League draw despite winning our league. That has meant we are drawn with Real Madrid, Olympiacos and Partizan Belgrade. I am confident we will qualify again but it will be the matches against Real Madrid that determine where we qualify!
Great start to the new season!

Key Players

Bringing in some new faces meant the complexion of the squad changed slightly. I have identified some key players in the squad who will be vital to our success. If these guys can avoid injuries they will lead us to success in all competitions and more importantly in Europe. I am getting frustrated at being knocked out by Man City and deep down I hope we can meet them in a final one day and beat them.

Goalkeeper

Defenders

Midfielders

Strikers

Dejan Lovren has been named captain this season following Steed Malbranque’s retirement. Maxime Gonalons is now vice-captain and both players will be expected to lead by example. John Ruddy had an excellent season in his first one as a Lyon player and I expect him to improve on that. Marcos Rojo at 24 is considered a veteran and is tutoring Prince Boateng, who will also see more first team action.

Will Hughes is an amazing prospect and he is still only 19. He has a lot of development ahead of him but he is going to be one of the first names on the team sheet every week. He had a strong season last year and I expect him to be even better this season.

Alexandre Lacazette is 23 but has been in the first team for the 2 seasons I have been in charge. He was outstanding last season, involved in 37 goals for the club and I expect him to be even better this year. He has already got off to a flier and I can’t see anything stopping him. Yassine Benzia has been eased in to the first team over time and will play a bigger role this season. At only 20, it is between him and Tony Watt for the other striker role and it will be a tough choice after Watt’s incredible season last year.
Brilliant couple of updates and a brilliant couple of results. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Champions League win this season? ;)

Real Madrid will be an interesting opponent.
