Guardiola Returns To Football
Three weeks after leaving his job at Bayern Munich,
Pep Guardiola has been appointed new manager of
Valencia.
The Spaniard has signed a 5-year deal at the Mestalla and will take charge of his new team on Monday morning.
Valencia have been underperforming this year and find themselves
16th in La Liga when the media predicted that the club would finish 4th in the league. Valencia are 2nd in their Champions’ League group but are not secured a place in the last 16 just yet.
Speaking to the press about his new job, Pep Guardiola stated his intentions and that he wants to make Valencia title champions within the next 3 years.
“Valencia are a great club that many admire. They have not done too well in the league but have been picking up recently and are climbing the table so with a bit more stability we can make a charge towards the top”.
“I have a good squad here and in January I will make some signings to add firepower to the squad and I believe if we keep the team together we could make a charge for the title in a few seasons”
“I have some money to spend and I want to sign quality but also get it cheap to be able to acquire more players. I feel at home here and I want to make sure I take Valencia to the top. I feel if we finish in the top 6 this season then we have something to build on for next season and we can improve. I want to make sure that we have some form of European football at the Mestalla next season”.
When asked by press if he had anything to say on the events that lead to him leaving Bayern he told them that he will talk when he is ready to.
“Look I have just joined a new team, please be respectful. I don’t want to talk about Bayern at the moment. I will never say anything bad about my former team and I have respect but things just turned sour”.
Many Valencia fans are excited about the new era that could be around the corner at the Mestalla and former player David Villa has expressed his concerns about a rising Valencia side.
“I had some great years with Pep” said Villa.
“He is a great coach and they are improving a lot and with Soldado upfront and on form they could be a big force in Spain”.
Soldado is Valencia’s top scorer this season with
11 goals in 15 games for the club.
Valencia started the season with 4 draws in a row and then managed to lose 4 on the bounce to send them spiralling down the table into the relegation places.
6 wins in 9 have seen Valencia rising up to 16th place in La Liga so with Pep in charge Valencia will be hoping for a good season.
