Valencia 2013/14: The Story So Far

It has not been a season to cheer for Valencia fans….yet. The team has made a terrible start to their La Liga campaign and find themselves 16th in the league after 11 games.

Valencia have finished 3rd in La Liga for the past four years so for fans to see their team this low down the table is a big shock for them. The team has some quality players in the likes of Soldado, Rami and Gago.

The La Liga campaign did not start well at all for Valencia after the team only managed to win 3 points in their first 7 games. 3 draws were followed by 4 heavy defeats to the likes of Barcelona and Granada.

An opening win in the Champions league over FC Twente seemed to have sparked some form of a revival but Valencia were soon dragged back down to earth due to a 3-1 loss away at Real Madrid. But Valencia went on to win 5 of their next 7 games scoring 11 goals in the process, 7 of those coming from top goal scorer Roberto Soldado.

Valencia find themselves in 16th place, 10 points of last year’s 3rd place finish. The team is slowly improving and with a few wins they will climb back up the table and hopefully into the top 6. With the title way out of site all Valencia fans can hope for is a stroke of luck.

Roberto Soldado has netted 11 goals in 15 games and is the captain of Valencia. He has been their standout player this season and hopefully he can continue his form under the new management.

It has been a tough start for Valencia but under Pep who knows what might happen. But one thing is for certain…..they will improve.

Pep To Bring Out Attacking Valencia

In his first official press conference new Valencia manager Pep Guardiola signalled his intentions well to the fans of the club.

The Spaniard joined Valencia on a 4 year deal recently and sat down with reporters from around the world to discuss his first week in his new job and the upcoming game against Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Many fans are anticipating the dawn of a new era at Valencia and Pep wanted to reassure fans that success is just around the corner.

On his first week…
It has been nice to get to know the players and working on new tactics. It is a shame that there is an international break coming up but it will be nice to get to meet some of the youth and B Team players and see what they are made off. I have been around the club and met all of the staff from the Directors to the cleaners to make them aware that they are important on the road to success.

On new signings…
Well I am not going to spend much in January as I feel it won’t help the balance of the squad. If a good deal comes up then we may think about it. I want to sign two players and they will be possible loan signings and also I will see who is available on a free transfer to find some experienced players to help the team.

On the team’s poor start…
Well Valencia are a top club so to start a season like they have is a disaster. The last few games they have played well and I hope we will continue that form into the next few games. I hope to take them back up the table and my target for this season is a top four finish but if we finished in the top six then it would not be a disaster for us.

On the Celta Vigo match…
Well a few players are out such as Feghouli ,Canales and Banega but we will rally round and make sure that we have players for cover. I feel we should win the game and we know we are better than them and I want to make sure that we get the three points and win the game.

On a new style…
Well I still want to pass the ball about and focus on continual moving so the opponents can’t predict our next move. I want to dominate teams and make sure we convert chances and with Soldado we have a big chance of doing that.

On a new era…
Well I want to make this team successful and I promise the fans I will try my best to make sure we are. I want to win trophies and make sure we win La Liga one day.
Good Luck at Valencia mate. Soldado is a beast! :)

Valencia To Sign Rosicky

Valencia have completed the signing of former Arsenal and Dortmund midfielder Tomas Rosicky on a free transfer. The attacking midfielder was released by Arsenal at the end of last season and was unable to find a new club until Valencia snapped him up.

Rosicky has signed a 6 month contract with an option to extend at the end of his current deal and has been training with Valencia for around a week before he signed the deal.

Manager Pep Guardiola is excited about his new signing and hopes that he can provide cover and also bring ability into the squad.

“He is a top player” said Guardiola. “He has had bad luck with injuries in the past but recently he had a great season with Arsenal in 2012 and was one of their best players that year. He has good experience in the Champions League and in top leagues and he will be a big addition to the side”.

Unfortunately Rosicky will not be able to play until January as he can’t be registered until then but he was still happy to have found a new club.

“I admire this club a lot” said Rosicky. “They have a big history and I hope I can help them out this season. I want to play football and be the best I can be. I want to get the team back into the Champions League for next season so they can play at the top level again”.

“It has not been the best start for them this season but I know we can improve climb up the table”.

Many fans are happy that such an experienced player has joined the club and will hope his ability and experience in football can bring back some silverware to Valencia.
