Liverpool FC

Liverpool FC, a club with passionate fans, great players and a very historic stadium. When you name clubs with a fantastic history, this club is right up there. The club were once known as the kings of not only England, but Europe too. The Reds have won the English title 18 times, the only team to do better than that being Manchester United. The club's last major trophy was back in 2005, where they beat AC Milan on penalties, a truly memorable night.

Unfortunately, Liverpool have declined over the past few years, from kings of Europe, they began to struggle to even qualify for the champions league. Eventually Liverpool had to play in the Europa league and even in that they've failed to impress. It seems, since the departure of Rafa Benitez and key players such as Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano the club has struggled. Managers such as Roy Hodgson,Kenny Dalglish and now Brendan Rodgers have tried to restore Liverpool's glory but have failed.

Following the departure of Rodgers from Anfield, Liverpool have had to look for a new manager. A manager that they believe can bring back the glory and success to the club. Someone who loves the club and the club loves them. A legend who has played for Liverpool 314 times, scoring 84 goals. A role model to many as during his playing time, he suffered a lot of racial abuse but kept calm and got on with his career. A legendary winger born in Kingston Jamaica. Can you guess who it is?
Liverpool have announced John Barnes as their new manager.

We want to challenge

Liverpool's newly appointed manager, John Barnes, wasn't shy in his first interview as the boss. Possibly because he's very familiar with the club. The first team coach arrived at the press conference at around 9 A.M in the morning and was all smiles as he took questions from different persons.

When Barnes was asked why he took the job, he replied "Liverpool is a club I love, I enjoyed playing for the team while I was still a player. I owe the club a lot and so when I was offered the job and the chance to bring back glory and success to the club, it was impossible to turn it down. This club's history is astonishing, you know and I must give credit to previous managers for trying their best to bring back the glory. Rodgers made some good signings before he left which is good as it means the squad has been strengthened.".

A journalist asked if it was true about Lucas Leiva's departure from the club, Barnes was straight up and told the truth, "Lucas has had a fairly frustrating time at the club, even I know that. Injuries have really hampered his career here. He is off to PSG as a 30 million bid was accepted as I joined the club. We wish him all the best and thank him for his services here at the club.".

Shortly after he answered that question, a journalist from Sky Sports News asked if Liverpool would replace Lucas with the transfer listed Cabaye. Barnes claimed he didn't know who that player was by answering, "Cabaye? Who's that? I've never heard of him so I don't think he will be signing.". A tactical answer from Barnes. It is possible that Newcastle and Liverpool are working out a deal, Barnes revealing that a deal is taking place could trigger the deal to be hijacked.

Finally Barnes was asked about his aims for the club. From his answer, its possible the old Liverpool could be back. He said, "This season, we will work harder than every other team on and off the pitch. The fans are desperate, the players are determined, the coaching staff are ready to play their part. Even the non-coaching staff want to play a part. You could call it a revolution if you want."

Liverpool will start their pre-season, in a few days as they face Ballymena United. It will give a chance for Barnes to decide who is in his plans and who isn't.

Just days after John Barnes claimed he didn't have a clue who Yohan Cabaye was, we can now confirm the French international has signed for the club for a fee of 20.5 million. Newcastle were not reluctant to sell and couldn't turn such an offer for their star midfielder. Cabaye will 77k p/w and has signed a 4 year contract with the club.

Liverpool would have been delighted that they managed to sign Cabaye, so quickly after the departure of Lucas Leiva. Also they would have been delighted that non of the top 4 club hijacked the deal, we must give credit to John Barnes for pulling of such a signing. This is Barnes' first signing as manager of Liverpool and the clubs' 7th signing of the transfer window. We expect Liverpool to still make a few more signings.

The agent of Cabaye, Damien Arrighi, sent us a statement from the player his self, here's what he had to say:

"Today is a good day for myself. I have signed for one of the biggest and historic club's in England. I am glad I have finally moved to a bigger club and I hope it will be a step up in my career. Newcastle United, thank you for everything, it is unfortunate that things didn't work out and I wish the club the best, now I want to focus on my future at the club."

John Barnes in a press interview today was asked what he thought about the signing of Cabaye and was in a comical mood:

"*laughs* So that's the Cabaye you were talking about, oh. We're glad that he's signed for us as he is a very good player. Before I became manager I had watched him play a few times. I was impressed and became a big fan of him. He's a very fit lad, with good passing and a great technique. He can play in various positions in the central midfield. As an attacking midfielder, as a central midfielder and as a defensive midfielder, with the formation we plan to play he'll play as a central midfielder, his favoured position."

During his time at Newcastle United, Cabaye made 34 appearances and scored 4 goals for the club, a memorable goal was one he scored against Liverpool. Now that Barnes has made this signing, I think we can be expecting a few more. For more transfer news, you can get it here on Sky Sports News.
