Bergomi Eyeing January Reinforcements Already
Reports have come out that Inter scouts have supposedly been following 4 big name players that could potentially end up at the San Siro in January to strengthen Inter's title bid. Two of the players are young central midfielders, Isco of Malaga and Marco Verratti of PSG, the third is big Werder Bremen defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and the fourth is Denmark and FC Twente striker Nicklas Helenius. Bergomi is expected to sign one of the two central midfielders to partner Andrea Poli, and the Greek center back is expected to provide cover and compete for both the center back and right back spots. Helenius, who knows Bergomi from their relationship at the Denmark camp, is expected to add depth to an attack that has sorely missed an injured Ademilson.Isco
Isco is one of the brightest talents in Spanish football. He is a central midfielder capable of both an attacking midfield and deeper midfield role, and he is well known for his dribbling, passing, technique, and flair. He is enduring a difficult time in his career however, as his club, Malaga, have been playing in Liga Adelante for the last two years. Understandably, Isco has turned in a transfer request, and due to a 20m euro release clause in his contract, will be sold at that price to whoever will match it. Isco is expected to play next to Poli if he joins, but critics claim that Isco has underperformed in that role and prefers to play behind the striker.
Marco Verratti
The second center mid on Inter's shortlist is PSG man Marco Verratti. The 21 year old Italian has amassed a mere 11 appearances for the first team in Paris since his move from Pescara, instead being forced to play in only the reserves. This has come as a shock to many football fans, as Verratti already possesses excellent passing and dribbling skills, making him a very versatile and dynamic midfielder. Verratti is currently available for loan, but it is thought that a bid of 16m euros (similar to what Inter paid for Andrea Poli) would be enough to pry away the youngster from PSG. Verratti is the favorite to sign over Isco, and many Nerazzurri fans would love to see him in the black and blue.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos
The hilariously named Werder Bremen defender is at the top of Giuseppe Bergomi's list to strengthen Inter's defense. Sokratis boasts incredible marking and tackling skills while also being a physical beast at the back. Despite strong form from Juan Jesus and Andrea Ranocchia this season, Bergomi is said to want more depth in the position instead of just filling in with young players like Ibrahima Mbaye and Emerson Luiz. Papastathopoulos is the perfect man to provide this depth due to his experience at the top level of football and his extraordinary defensive skills. Bremen are reported to want at least 12m euros to allow Inter to approach their player.
Nicklas Helenius
The final man that Inter are reportedly looking to bring to the San Siro is FC Twente striker Nicklas Helenius. The 23 year old striker has scored 9 goals in 17 appearances this season and has started to draw attention to himself as a top finisher. Giuseppe Bergomi already also manages Helenius at the Denmark national team, where Helenius has recently played second fiddle to an on-song Nicklas Bendtner. There is said to be a great respect among the two, and Helenius said he would be happy to play for both club and country under Bergomi.
