TEN PLAYERS GET FRIMPONGED
Emmanuel Frimpong may have only recently been announced as manager, his first ever spell in football coaching or managing, but he already seems to have an idea of what he wants to achieve, and has sold no less than 10 players, bringing in a massive £74 million, with Napoli allowing every penny to go back into the transfer budget, meaning Frimpong would make a massive £99 million to spend on transfers to get his squad perfect.
The first to leave was
Federico Fernandez, joining VfB Stuttgart for £3 million. The 23 year old defender joined Napoli just last year, but Napoli have in fact managed to make a £400k profit after he played just 16 games. The next player to leave Napoli was
Pablo Armero, who was bought in this window by Rafa Benitez. Nevertheless, Frimpong seemed to not want to include Armero, who has now joined Paris Saint-Germain for £17 million before playing a game for Napoli.
Armero wasn't the only star to go to France, as AS Monaco FC splashed out £25 million in order to sign
Camilo Zuniga, the 26 year old defender, and Italian
Christian Maggio. Zuniga cost Monaco £13.5 million while the newly promoted Ligue One side had to fork out £11.5 million for Maggio. Both were considered key players under Rafa Benitez, so fans will have to wait and see what changes Frimpong has in mind.
Gordon Pandev is another big name who has left the club, joining Manchester City for a fee of £14 million. Pandev has recently been on a season long loan at the club, and after impressing Benitez, he was signed for £6.5 million. Nevertheless, before he was able to play again, Emmanuel decided to sell the striker for a large profit.
Walter Gargano is the final star to leave for a large fee. Costing Inter Milan £12 million, the 28 year old had been with Napoli for five seasons, playing over 150 games!
Meanwhile, 21 year old
Luigi Sepe has joined Serie B side Latina on a season long loan, with
Emanuale Allegra also leaving on loan, to join L'Aquila. Uruguayan defender
Miguel Britos has joined Greek club PAOK for £1.4 million, with
Mario Santana joining Atlanta for the same fee.
It is expected Emmanuel Frimpong will begin spending his large budget very soon, due to the lack of squad depth for the upcoming friendlies, and many believe he already has a wealth of targets in mind.
