Phelan's View: Preseason 2012/13
We had a very successful preseason this season with only one loss. This gives us confidence going into the Championship season after some great performances from certain players and some good team work all round. Out of the six friendlies, we won five and lost one.
Preseason 2012/13
Millwall vs. Millwall Reserves
Wednesday 18th of July, 2013 | Friendly | The Den | 16° Windy | Attendance: 0
5-1
Starting XI [4-2-2-2]: Turnbull - Dunne, Robinson, Shittu, Lowry - Abdou, Trotter - Henry, Feeney - Keogh, Morison
Goals: Keogh (4, 14, 24), Morison (44, 45)
Notes: This was a good way to kickstart our friendly campaign. With fitness now boosted and the players ready, this should be the stepping stone for a good preseason. Andrew Keogh and Steve Morison look quite the pair up front.
Millwall vs. Valenciennes
Saturday 21st July, 2012 | Friendly | The Den | 15° Breezy | Attendance: 2,523
4-2
Starting XI [4-2-2-2]: Turnbull - Dunne, Robinson, Shittu, Lowry - Trotter, Abdou - N'Guessan, Feeney - Keogh, Morison
Goals: Keogh (32), Wright (68), Marquis (75), Morison (90+1)
Notes: What a win! We raced to a three-nil lead and then Valenciennes scared us with two goals in the last three minutes. Luckily, Steve Morison was here to help, turning and shooting to seal what is a fanstastic result!
Crewe vs. Millwall
Tuesday 24th July 2012 | Friendly | Alexandra Stadium | 13° Chilly | Attendance: 2,312
0-2
Starting XI [4-2-2-2]: Turnbull - Dunne, Robinson, Beevers, Malone - Trotter, Abdou - Henry, Woolyford - Marquis, Morison
Goals: Morison (10), Woolyford (45+2)
Notes: This fixture was all about fitness levels. The boys played well and got what was expected of them. There were some nervy moments but in the end we got there and we look forward to the next fixture.
MK Dons vs. Millwall
Saturday 28th July 2012 | Friendly | Stadium MK | 12° Breezy | Attendance: 1,347
1-0
Starting XI [4-2-2-2]: Forde - Dunne, Robinson, Shittu, Malone - Trotter, Abdou - N'Guessan, Feeney - Keogh, Marquis
No Goals
Notes: We had no rhythm in our passing and we couldn't create chances. I did tell them that it was a fitness fixture but they took it way too lightly and I think they were also disappointed with the result.
Forest Green vs. Millwall
Tuesday 31st July, 2012 | Friendly | The Lawn | 16° Sunny | Attendance: 2,632
1-6
Starting XI [4-2-2-2]: Forde - Dunne, Robinson, Shittu, Malone - Wright, Abdou - Henry, Feeney - Keogh, Morison
Goals: Keogh (4, 45), Henry (25 Pen), Morison (27), Robinson (81)
Oshodi (86)
Notes: A great game. The perfect way to bounce back from a defeat! Our passing was phenomenal and despite them being a Blue Square Premier side, we played some top football. The scoreline reflects our dominance.
Dartford vs. Millwall
4th August 2012 | Friendly | Princes Park | 15° Windy | Attendance: 1,274
0-3
Starting XI [4-2-2-2]: Forde - Laurient, Robinson, Berra, Shandgra - Trotter, Abdou - Henry, Woolyford - Keogh, Morison
Goals: Woolyford (13) Keogh (51, 75)
Notes: Some excellent pieces of play in this game. We dominated against our feeder club as we should and we got some goals to boost confidence ahead of the first game of the season. Again Andrew Keogh was the dominant striking force and we got to test out new signing Berra for the first time.
Players To Watch
Steve Morison fired Millwall to the second division in 2011 and he will be our main striker this year. Already he has forged a successful partnership with Andrew Keogh in the front two. Hopefully his goals can give us a mid-table finish.
At the other end of the field is Ross Turnbull, who we picked up from Chelsea on a free this transfer window. Showed his quality between the sticks, he is my first choice ahead of veteran Forde, but knows he must wrk hard to make the place his own.
