Yah i know what you mean. You have to play them regularly, thats the only way youll sell them for a decent amount.
In terms of good cheapish midfielders, i can suggest Felipe Anderson or Giuliano. Boh have been fantastic for me! Or try Lucas Anderson or Firminho (or something like that!)

Have a look at Shakhtar Donetsk. They have good brazilians, like Douglas Costa, Dentinho, Willian.
As nakulp said, Giuliano is good as well.
Look at Lucas Moura from Sao Paulo. Andre Schurrle, Lars Bender from Leverkusen and Sven Bender from Dortmund.
If you want a good centre back, try Kyriakos Papadopoulos. He's a bit too aggressive though. Top marking and tackling but positioning would have to be improved.
And Yann M'Vila as defensive midfielder.
Have a look at Arda Turan as well, bought by Liverpool in my Crewe game.
As for Steven Gerrard, in what role are you playing him? Central midfielder or attacking midfielder just behind striker? His report states that he operates best as an advanced playmaker when given a duty of support.
Yes Kyriakos Papadopoulos was fantatastic on the last FM I played. Did look at him now but I decided not going after him. I have too many defenders. About Gerrard, I do use him as playmaker but attack. I will try duty thanks
