Manager’s May/End of Season Review
May was such a good month for me and the team, we had already won the league and the preparation for the Champions League Final could begin. We knew that the fans wouldn’t expect our form to dip over the final three games and we made sure it didn’t, with 3 wins from 3 games. In them three games we scored 11 goals and only conceded 2.
The Champions League Final was a bit disappointing, I feel the pressure of our first final got to us and we didn’t perform to our highest level. It was upsetting to lose Nem in the first half to injury and worse for him because that injury is likely to rule him out of the World Cup in his own Country.
My player of the month for May is Samir Nasri. Nasri was playing for his place in the starting eleven for the Champions League Final and he impressed so much and got his start. He scored three goals and created plenty of chances in the two games he started. He will be hoping to contribute just as much next season and I am hoping he does too.
I was also awarded the Manager of the Month award for May, to which I am delighted to receive and I am proud of my players for not letting their performance drop even though the League title was won.

My end of the season review can begin with me saying how good it feels to be Champions of England! The team has been amazing all season and other than the devastating 5-1 defeat to United when the title had been won, we were brilliant all year and I am proud to be manager of this team. Not only did we win the League so comfortably but we also set a Premier League record for the most points in one season.

In the Champions League, I am delighted to have made our first ever Final but at the same time a little upset to have lost it, but United played well and their experience told in the Final. Again, our run to the final was special, we beat Real Madrid and Bayern Munich before beating Arsenal in the Semi’s and we hopefully have done the fans proud and will be hoping we can go on to win it next season.
In the two domestic Cup competitions we were disappointing. I was hoping to have a good run in the FA Cup but we came unstuck in the 4th round and that was my fault for not picking a strong team in the first game and leaving ourselves with too much to do in the replay. In the Capital One Cup, we played some of our younger players as is always the plan and we got beaten by a much better Everton side in the 4th Round.
My player of the season is a very tough decision, I could give it to so many of our players but I am going to give it to Matija Nastasic. He stepped up to the plate all season and deserves all the credit he gets, I signed Raphael Varane expecting him to start alongside Kompany, but Nastasic took the starters spot from the first game and never looked back. Not only did he defend well all season but he also chipped in with 7 goals.
A special mention does go to Yaya Toure who won the Players’ Player of the Year, Joe Hart who won the Golden Glove award and also to Wellington Nem who came runner-up in the Players’ Young Player of the Year. Also captain Vincent Kompany was named in the Champions League Dream Team for this season.
I am also happy and proud to announce I was named the Premier League’s Manager of the Year. After such an amazing year I was expecting to receive this and was happy when I received the message to say I had. The team deserve all of the credit for playing so well all season and they playing well makes my job a lot easier.
