I tested this tactic using RC Lens in the French Ligue 1, while on holiday all season.
I spent most of the Ligue 1 season in 2nd place, but later choked and finished in 5th. In the end I won 19 games, drew 11 and lost 8. I scored 61 goals and allowed 34 (4th highest scored and 5th highest conceded).
Lois Openda was my top scorer (all competitions), scoring 17 goals in 37 games. The only other player to score at least 10 goals was Florian Sotoca, who scored 11 goals in 32 games.
1 player was bought and 1 player was sold respectively. Angelo Fulgini was brought in from Mainz 05 for a fee of 6.25M pounds, while Mamadou Thiam was sold to Le Mans FC on a free deal.

How did the tactic work?
My main goalkeeper, Brice Samba, played in a traditional goalkeeper position with a defensive role.
I played 2 wingbacks (Deiver Machado and Julien Le Cardinal) with attacking roles, with 2 central defenders (Facundo Medina and Kevin Danso) playing on defensive roles.
The 2 defensive midfielders were Seko Fofana and Angelo Fulgini. Fofana played with a deep lying playmaker postion with a supporting role while Fulgini played as a defensive midfielder with a defensive role.
The 4 attackers were David Pereira da Costa, Florian Sotoca, Lois Openda and Adrien Thomasson. Pereira da Costa and Thomasson played as inside forwards with attacking roles. Openda played as a pressing forward and Sotoca played in an advanced forward position. Both players had attacking roles.
