NEW CONCACAF INTERNATIONAL FORMATS
The CONCACHAMPIONS is played from January to November and there are 64 teams. The quotas are 4 for Mexico and the United States, 2 for the rest of the important countries and one for the smaller countries. In addition to the Champions and CONCACAF League champions.
The first two rounds are two round-robin preliminary rounds where out of 64 initial teams, 16 remain. The draw is pure, in the best African Champions style.
Between April and June, the group phase is played, where the 16 teams are paired in 4 groups of 6 round-robin rounds. Teams from the same country may not play against each other.
The quarterfinals and semifinals are two-legged, also round-robin. Here the draw is pure, and teams from the same country may cross paths.
Finally, there is the useless but economically profitable third-place match, played in the same country as the final in October on neutral ground (predefined before the tournament).
The CONCACAF League has the same format, but starts to be played in 2022. Mexico and the United States do not send representatives. And the second-placed teams from all federations (except those where the second-placed teams go to the Champions League) + the third-placed teams + the runner-up of the last CONCACAF League will play.
