Tottenham fans defend André Villas-Boas

Both former Tottenham players and fans have jumped at André Villas-Boas’ defense after an article from the Daily Mail was posted questioning whether the Tottenham coach would cope after the sale of Welsh winger, Gareth Bale.

Social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter exploded with opinions on the Portuguese boss, with many defending their manager.

Involved in the debate included ex-Tottenham player and MOTD host, Gary Lineker, who played for Spurs between 1989 – 1992. Speaking to his 1.8M followers, Lineker was quoted saying;

Don’t worry Spurs fans. AVB is a good manager – he knows what he’s doing!

Other famous faces to get in on the act included Tottenham fan and ex-Tottenham owner Lord Sugar, who is renowned for tweeting all things Tottenham. Arsenal fan, Piers Morgan also spoke out about his opinion on the Tottenham coach.

Hundreds of Tottenham fans & celebs voiced their opinion on the article

While most seemed to reject what the media had to say, there were a few, albeit a minority, of Spurs fans agreeing.

One fan, who went by the Twitter handle of @AlexCoys was in full agreement with the article produced by the Daily Mail, and even went as far as asking for the Portuguese boss to be given the sack.

Can’t understand AVB Hype. Letting our best player go. Plays boring football too. #AVBOut

Youtube Interview: #AndréAnswers

Earlier today, Tottenham coach, André Villas-Boas got in touch with his softer side after speaking to SpursTV.

The club, who are very active on their social media platforms, took questions for the Portuguese boss via Twitter and Facebook using the hash tag #AndreAnswers. The Q&A seemed very popular with the Spurs supporters with more than 1,000 questions flooding in.

The session was presented by SpursTV host and Tottenham fan, Tim Love.

Tim Love: Hello, André. Thank you for taking time out from training to answer the questions, we know that you have a busy few weeks ahead of you, so we’ll try not to keep you long.

AVB: [Laugh] No problem.

Tim Love: Our first question for you, André comes from Dan. Dan wants to know – “A lot of money has been spent thus far. What are the expectations around the club and will there be any more
new arrivals?

AVB: Squads can always be improved, so there is a possibility of a few new faces, definitely. In terms of expectations, I think everyone is excited to be back, everyone’s raring to go ahead of the new season. Our main objective is going to be Champions League Qualification, as well as looking to secure a trophy or two.

Tim Love: Our next question comes all the way from America; Jesse P asks – “When you’re picking the team, do you take into account previous matches and how well they performed?

AVB: Yes, it is one of the things we look at. When you are playing a game, and one of your players played well in the previous fixture, then we will take it into account. We also have to look at how they’ve been in training, how they’re feeling in themselves.

Tim Love: André, Man v. Food presenter, and Tottenham fan, Adam Richman would like to know who you feel is the best player that you have worked with.

AVB: This is a tough one. I have only been managing a few years, but already I have had the pleasure to work with some of the best players in the world. I had the pleasure to work with Radamel [Falcao], Hulk and João [Moutinho] during my days at Porto. Here in North London I have managed some great players in Gareth [Bale], who sadly departed us this summer, as well as Hugo [Lloris] who I believe is currently the best sweeper keeper in the world. I have some new faces too, such as Paulinho, Christian [Eriksen] and Erik [Lamela] who all have the potential to be great, great players.

Tim Love: One, final “question”, which comes in from the Twitter user TimLove1984 [Laughing]. Tim wants to know, do you think you can complete the cinnamon challenge?

AVB: [Laughing] … Maybe another video?

Tim Love: Right, well, André. I think that’s all we have time for here at SpursTV. Thank you for sending in your Twitter questions and we hope you’ve had a great time. Next time, send us in your dares and we’ll see if André here, or even a Tottenham player, can complete them.
That's the kind of update I like :D Very good start to the story, I'm following ;)

This is England: Tottenham pair sign new contracts

Tottenham have confirmed that both Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend have extended their contracts at the club.

Right back, Kyle Walker has signed a whopping new six year contract which could see him stay at the club until 2019.

Walker has been an integral part of Spurs' defense since 2011. During his time at the club, he has so far managed to be voted Young Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers' Association in 2012.

Kyle was bought to Tottenham from Sheffield United, with fellow right back, Kyle Naughton in 2009 for a combined fee of £9M. However, he was loaned back to the club during the 09/10 season as part of the deal.

Kyle, who was born in Sheffield, and grew up in Sharrow has had a mixed time at Spurs thus far. Often known for his great pace and fearsome shot, he has enjoyed some great games for Spurs, including scoring his first goal for the club in October 2011, scoring a 25-yard winning goal against North London rivals, Arsenal.

Often criticized for his lack of defensive awareness and aggressive nature, he has often relied on one of his best assets to get him out of sticky situations: his pace. However, AVB clearly sees something in the young right back – he did make a total of 47 appearances across all competitions, more than any other player last season.

Meanwhile, his attacking counterpart, Andros Townsend has signed a four year contract which has seen his pay rise significantly. On his previous deal, Townsend was earning a mere £6,000 a week. The new deal is said to run until 2018, and Townsend is said to be ‘over the moon’ with committing his future to his boyhood club.

The young winger has flourished since his loan stint at QPR last season and prior to the 2013/14 season, Townsend had made just 18 appearances for the White Hart Lane club, scoring three goals.
Townsend had to go through nine loan spells before finally being promised regular first team action with Spurs. The clubs he played at include Yeovil Town, Watford, Millwall and Leeds.

Townsend was born a short distance away from the London club in Chingford, and has been at Tottenham since the age of 8. He has been a life-long Tottenham fan, with most of his family supporting the club. When Andros was just 10 years old, he lost his brother, Kurt, who died in a car crash age 18.

The pair are said to be delighted with committing their future to the London based club, with both players claiming that Tottenham can become a real force it not just England, but Europe too.
Didn't know Townsend was from the tottenham academy ..
Will Townsend be at the club as a rotation/back-up, or will he play a more central role?
Fantastic updates!
The presentation is great and I can't wait for you to begin the season!
Good luck :)
@Kane - Thank you v. much B)

@Alex - Cheers :)

@Kazza - Ah yes, one of the many famous talents to come through our youth... *sarcasm* :P

@Jeremy - Most likely play as a back up to Lamela in cup games and Europa league etc.

@Pompey - Thank you, me either! Getting sick of not being able to do any match updates / transfer update, but only got to wait another day :)
