Francesco Totti - Il Gladiatore di Roma
A legend of the game taking Rome to a new empire. Like Julius Caesar except not as good.

PRESEASON RESULTS

Alessandro Florenzi (72)
Francesco Totti
A great way to start my tenure! 22 players played, as will occur in every friendly, to get everybody match fit, and we dominated from start to finish. 61% possession and 15 shots on target really tells the whole tale, and I’m pleased to have picked up the Man of the Match award as well!
Nimes 1-4 Roma
Maicon (16)Federico Balzaretti (20)
Mathieu Robail (30)
Kevin Strootman (78)
Adem Ljajic (83)
Maicon
This match was another big win for us to celebrate, and this time against slightly stronger opposition. I was surprised to see both of our fullbacks score, but also pleased as it showed how fluid the system Andreazzoli and I had in place was. If we can keep up this offensive form, even the famed defense of Juve will struggle against us!
Everton 0-1 Roma
Alessandro Florenzi (63)Federico Balzaretti
Everton is likely the strongest team we will face during our preseason, and we gave a very good account of ourselves. The physicality of the English game certainly stopped as at first but we eventually found our tempo and a moment of brilliance unlocked their defense and led to yet another victory for the Giallorossi!
Villareal 1-4 Roma
Medhi Benatia (18)Alessandro Florenzi (33)
Adem Ljajic (45, 50)
Cani (73)
Adem Ljajic
Even though Villareal have just been promoted once again to the Spanish top flight, they still have a number of good players, and we absolutely dismantled them. I am very happy with the offensive trio of Florenzi, Ljajic, and myself starting in attack, we combined very well, and Andreazzoli is pleased from the touchline as well. One more preseason match left!
Aris 0-6 Roma
Francesco Totti (5, 36)Adem Ljajic (28, 42)
Alessandro Florenzi (61)
Kevin Strootman (65)
Francesco Totti
So I start and end the preseason with a man of the match award! Between the attacking triumvirate of Ljajic, Florenzi, and I, we scored a massive 5 goals. We dominated from start to finish, and though we only had 52% possession, that’s all we needed. My all-out attacking style seems ready to take the Serie A by storm!
REVIEW
What an excellent preseason, winning 5 out of 5 games, scoring 19 goals and giving up 2. Adem Ljajic looks like he will be absolutely key for us, managing to find the net 5 times in those 5 games. We start off the season hosting Sampdoria, and the boys look ready to kick off the year with 3 points.Quick Links

TOTTI: “WE HAVE A VERY STRONG SQUAD”
Tomorrow the Serie A season kicks off, and the very first match will be Francesco Totti’s first competitive match in charge of AS Roma as they host Sampdoria at the Stadio Olimpico. Fresh off of an excellent preseason during which the Giallorossi won every match, the capital city side will look to kick things off in the best way possible.
Roma have utilized a narrow 4-1-2-1-2 throughout the preseason, and will likely use this formation to start against Sampdoria. Totti himself is expected to start alongside Adam Ljajic with either Miralem Pjanic or Alessandro Florenzi behind them, a deadly attacking trio. Boasting players like Strootman, Verratti, Bradley, and De Rossi in the rest of midfield, Roma looks like it has a very strong season ahead.
“We have a very strong squad that enjoyed a top preseason,” said Totti. “All of the players, myself included, cannot wait for the true season to begin. We have a very strong squad that is capable of fighting for a Champions League place or even the Scudetto.”
Those are bold words, perhaps a little too bold from the Giallorossi captain and manager. Juventus, who have won the last two Scudetti, will be the favorite, while classic giants such as AC Milan and Internazionale will also be joined by Napoli and then perhaps Roma for the title.
Despite Roma’s strengthening in the transfer market and in the managerial sector, they are not the only ones to switch things up. Juventus has brought in Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente, a deadly new striking duo, while Napoli brought in Rafa Benitez as manager, dragging the likes of superstar striker Gonzalo Higuain along with him.
“Making it into the Champions League is our biggest priority,” continued Totti. “We want to play in the greatest competition in Europe and attract big names to the Stadio Olimpico. We want to prove we are a truly great club once again.”
When asked on how things would be run if he was playing, the legendary striker replied, “Aurelio Andreazzoli (the assistant manager) and I have a very good understanding and he will be shouting instructions from the touchline if I am involved in the play.”
It seems ‘il Gladiatore’ and AS Roma are prepared for the new Serie A campaign, which kicks off tomorrow at 7:45 at the Stadio Olimpico when the Giallorossi host Sampdoria. A new season is finally on the horizon.
