Form On The Pitch Unaffected As United Crush Liverpool
5-1
In what had been billed as a close encounter, Liverpool were trounced 5-1 by Manchester United at Old Trafford. The highlight of the game was undoubtedly a superb hat-trick from Manchester United's Steven Naismith.
Naismith bagged a hat-trick
It was striker Steven Naismith got Manchester United off to a flyer by scoring a well timed finish from close range on 5 minutes. Then Antonio Candreva, the guy who thought his United career was over doubled the lead on a rare start with a powerful effort on 16 minutes.
Naismith got his second of the game with a well timed close range effort on the 31st minute following brilliant work up play by Nathanial Clyne. Winger Kevin Mirallas then added to the lead with a well struck deflected effort on the 57th minute. It was his first Premier League goal for the club and this was celebrated unlike the goal against former employers Everton.
Luis Suarez pulled on back for Liverpool after 67 minutes with a fluke goal but any faint hopes of a comeback were ended when Naismith scored a penalty to complete his hat-trick and he was voted Man Of The Match.
Candreva is back in contention at United
We were outstanding today. I may have got a hat-trick but this trophy belong to Antonio. Since he came here he struggled to adapt last season but today he showed what a fantastic player he is and I think everyone will hear more of this Italian this season.
