Vitória Guimarães Count The Money

Portuguese football may never be the same again, as English tycoon Martyn Godfrey has successfully completed his takeover of Portuguese club Vitória Guimarães. Godfrey arrives at the club with lofty ambitions, stating to the press he will go all out in order to make the club a force to be reckoned with.

Questions must now be asked as to who takes the title of richest club in Portugal, as Godfrey reportedly plans to invest millions of pounds into the club to transform them into a superpower in European football.

Godfrey, 61, is known mainly throughout his homeland of England. It was there where he began his successful supermarket chain, the main source of his fortune. After investing in several other profitable businesses, football has become the next on the London-born tycoon's list as he plans to create a super team.

The new owner was presented outside the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques proudly displaying the club's shirt, and told the Portuguese media that he had big ambitions for the northern Portuguese club.

The Englishman, based in London, is a small time Chelsea supporter and this is where his interest in Vitória Guimarães first began. Due to Chelsea's affiliation with the Portuguese team, Godfrey began to learn more and more about the landscape of Portuguese football.

After learning that the domestic titles were practically always contested by two teams, FC Porto and SL Benfica, Godfrey decided he wanted to take on the challenge of building a new powerhouse in Portugal - and his decision was made much easier due to the fact that Vitória Guimarães has a connection close to him.

Godfrey promised big things for the club, promising a new era of dominance for the team firstly on the domestic stage before taking that on to the next level - European football.

It remains to be seen whether manager Rui Vitoria will retain his job, with Godfrey most likely pursuing a completely fresh start after Vitoria's side failed to qualify for continental qualification.
o wow. Money is ruining football.
Things just got interesting...
First off Walt, great work this season. Your finish was very impressive considering it was your first season in the top tier!
Secondly, congrats on manager of the season, you fully deserved the award :D
Finally, good to see that FINALLY the takeover has been completed :P
Dem tycoons. I'm sure you'll still beat them though.

Author's Note

Hi guys, just letting you know this story probably won't be updated as regularly as it has been for the past three or so weeks. Due to school coming back my time is restricted and at the moment I'm struggling to find the motivation to write the updates. I'll still continue this story however, it just might be at a slower pace than before.

Come On Down To The Sea?

Holidays were over. After a brief break from football I had come back to my office at the club's training ground and prepared for life in the top flight and my fifth season at the club. I'd had offers to leave, but they were either from smaller teams or I just didn't want to go.

This time, there was a better offer on the table. Olhanense were a current Primeira League team and after recently removing of their manager they decided to phone me and give me the chance to come down.

I'll be honest with you, just seeing the location made me think a bit harder about whether I should take the job. The beaches, weather and lifestyle all looked so appealing! It would be hard to turn down, that's for sure!

I sat down with the chairman, did the interview that always happens and he seemed to like me. He offered me the job but I said I'd need a little more time to think, as it was going to be a tough decision.

I can have an awesome lifestyle down here in Olhão. Beaches, the weather - everything. Their club is probably a little worse than Oriental, as we showed by beating them twice in a season.

But I have a life in Lisbon, too. I've built this Oriental team from scratch, therefore I can proudly call it "my team". But I'm coming into my fifth season at the club. Maybe a change of scenery is right? Maybe they need a new direction.

What do I do?

If you're going to leave Oriental, it better not be for some crap team like Olhanense :P
