Oriental Fans Excited Ahead Of SLB Clash
Oriental fans are gearing up for the season opener versus Benfica
Oriental fans are getting ready for their mouth watering season opener against giants SL Benfica at the Estádio da Luz on the 20th of August, a match set to be televised nation wide and also to other channels across Europe.
The two sides first met in the Taça de Portugal some years ago now, when Oriental were a National Championship - G side and Jorge Jesus was manager of the Lisbon powerhouse. Vitor Martins' side travelled to the same stadium they'll play in tomorrow and came away with a narrow loss.
Four years later, and Oriental will be heading back to the famed stadium in which they played in back in 2013, but a lot has changed since. Firstly, André Villas-Boas is the manager of the home side after Jorge Jesus took the Portugal job.
Oriental will be playing in their second season in the top flight after two promotions in three seasons and have met Benfica twice since their first meeting.
"Oriental are a good side, a well-oiled machine, not to be taken lightly," said Benfica boss Villas-Boas.
"We cannot be complacent because they will make us pay if we do and that's not how we want to start the season."
SLB fans however remain confident they can avoid a slip up early on in the season and make a real push for the title. After FC Porto's complete dominance in recent times supporters of the Lisbon side are hoping to break their arch rival's trophy cabinet from growing.
