#AskSlater - Twitter Q&A with the Gaffer

We asked all of you County fans to ask a question to our manager Josh Slater using the hashtag '#AskSlater'. Here are the best questions and answers from Twitter;

Q: Ask you are a County fan, what was your favourite moment? #AskSlater

A: That's a tough choice but the one that comes to my mind the most is the League Two Play-off Final against Rochdale, that was by far my most favourite moment, especially when Liam Dickinson got that third goal to seal the win!

Q: Do you support any other teams apart from County? #AskSlater

A: Yes, I'm a huge Manchester United fan. Been one all my life! Hopefully one day we'll be in the same division as them, what a game that would be!

Q: Which manager is your idol? #AskSlater

A: Well undoubtedly Sir Alex Ferguson! He did a remarkable job at Manchester United and showed that if you stick with a manager it can get you far. But on another hand I really respect Jim Gannon after the work he did at County to get us promoted!

Q: What car do you own? #AskSlater

A: I own a Vauxhall Astra. It may not be a very expensive and 'flashy' car but it's very well made and I enjoy driving long distances with it!

Q: What was the most exciting game of football you have ever watched? #AskSlater

A: Being a United fan it pains me to say it but Liverpool's Champions League win over AC Milan in the final was one of the most exciting games I have watched. Their comeback was absolutely amazing!

Q: Who is your all-time favourite player? #AskSlater

A: Probably Peter Schmeichel. When I was younger my favourite position to play was as a goalkeeper and I used to always admire 'The Great Dane's' performances! He was a great goalkeeper and my favourite player.

December Report - Piling on the Pressure

Going into Christmas and the New Year were really overachieving in the league, who would have thought we'd be in 2nd place before the New Year? I certainly didn't! Anyway this month we are to face our local rivals Macclesfield in the FA Trophy which is surely going to be an exciting game!

Our first game was against recently relegated Southend at their ground which looked to be a very tough game. I decided to set the team up to counter attack and I was rewarded with all three points. They literally bombarded our box but we smartly hit them on the break and Piero Mingoia added to his ever-growing tally of goals to secure us a huge 3 points.

Then we travelled over to Macclesfield to face our local rivals in the FA Trophy 2nd Round. We were undoubtedly the better team but they did a Mourinho and parked the bus. We had numerous shots and dominated possession but we just couldn't break down their defence and when we did their goalkeeper proved to be inspired form to keep the game at 0-0 meaning we'd have to settle for a replay at Edgeley Park.

So here we go, the replay of the 2nd Round! Again we dominated possession and guess what? They parked the bus once more. We struggled to break down their back 4 but we found a little opening and Archie Love threaded Danny Pilkington through on goal and he expertly finished the ball into the bottom corner to win us the game! The FA Trophy dream lives on!

After that huge victory we headed off to Hereford which proved to be a very tough game as they attacked us many times but our defence held firm. We had a couple of half-chances which either went wide or their keeper saved but I'll say it right now, we were very lucky to get a point out of this game as they were the better team.

And finally we were back at Edgeley Park to face a solid Nuneaton. We dominated possession but they had more chances than us. Throughout the first half they were the better side but we took the lead late on in the second half through James Marwood to earn yet another three points which rounded off a great December.

League Table

8 points off Grimsby now after those great results, and we also have a game in hand. Hopefully we can push on and possibly knock Grimsby off their perch but I'll take the play-offs come the end of the season, that's for sure!

Player of the Month

Danny Pilkington

There could have been two other winners than Danny but I chose him due to the fact that he scored the winning goal in our local derby against Macclesfield and continued our FA Trophy dream! He's been a star in the past few months and I'm really glad he's performing well!
Fantastic update! Going strong at the top - are you aiming for 1st, or would you settle for 2nd?
Looks like you're on a run! Best of luck, and get that title!
Great month and great update, the latter is what I am always expecting though ;)

@LFC: Thanks man. I'm aiming for the play-offs to be honest, but we can really challenge for 1st!

@Pauker: We're on a great run! Thanks! :)

@Pompey: Haha thank you very much Pompey. :)

@510: Leave. Tranmere got relegated.

Just kidding. :P
Stockport will be up to the Conference in real life soon enough; correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard that they have a bit of money now. 11th last season; County probably have an outside chance to make the playoffs

County sign former Blackpool midfielder

Stockport County have added to their squad early in January by bringing in former Blackpool midfielder Liam Tomsett on a free transfer.

Tomsett, who was recently released from Blackpool is relishing the chance to play for Stockport County, who have been revitalised through the work of rookie manager Josh Slater, and hopes that he can contribute to the club winning promotion back up into the Football League.

Tomsett joins an evergrowing midfield however Slater has stated that some players will have to move on to balance the books, with midfielder Danny Gossett and George Rigg the main candidates to be released from Stockport County this transfer window.

Josh Slater: "Liam is an exceptional player, and I'm really glad I've been able to bring him into the squad. He will be a big part of our plans now and in the future and I'm looking forward to seeing how he does in training and on the pitch. Some players may have to go and we need to balance the books and save up our wages."

We finished 15th in the Skrill North this season, hopefully with Lord at the helm he can push us back up to the Skrill Premier.
Oh, 15th? I missed the last few days, you see. :P
Also, how dare you describe yourself as a "rookie"? :P
