A few easy away days before a massive clash with Chelsea, good luck!

Newcastle United on the brink of qualification after 1-0 win at St James Park

Newcastle United moved into top spot in Champions League Group C as Remy Cabella scored the only goal in a straight forward win over Napoli at St James Park.

The French midfielder, 25, turned in Grenier's flick-on after the hosts dominated the opening 30 minutes. Gonzalo Higuain squandered a fine, and rare, chance to equalise for Napoli as he miscued when one-on-one soon after.
Newcastle United should have increased their winning margin, with Perez and Anita guilty of particularly glaring misses.

In the build-up to their group game, David Ginola had called on his side to be more ruthless in front of goal.
While United again created plenty of chances, particularly in the first 15 minutes, they failed to capitalise.
Tiote and Moussa Sissoko had both shot wide before Cabella bundled the ball into the net at the far post after Grenier rose unchallenged to flick Ryan Taylor's corner through the six-yard box.

Ginola had also insisted that Newcastle's concession of two goals their previous three matches was down to bad luck rather than poor defending.

Newcastle continued to create and waste chances, with Coloccini's header pushed over the top by Rafael before Cheick Tiote volleyed wide from the edge of the box.
But they still looked vulnerable at the back when their Italian opponents, albeit infrequently, attacked.

Eduardo Vargas's pot-shot from 25 yards fizzed off target after he had shrugged off Balanta's attention.

The hosts were in enough control to see out the match and claim there third straight win in the group, a feat they were not expected to achieve at all

Match Overview

UEFA Champions League groupstage

those double-header victories have put us well and truly in control of this group, we only need a draw in our final two matches to progress, noone expected this when the groups were drawn as we were heavily tipped to finish bottom

You pretty much have top spot sealed!

Marseille won't be selling Florian Thauvin unless they get big money, but that might be coming from Newcastle United.

Newcastle United have reportedly launched a bid for exciting Marseille winger Florian Thauvin.
United are keen to land the French attacker as boss David Ginola looks to improve his already talented squad.

The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the rising stars of French football with him being tracked by Arsenal and Chelsea in recent times.

But the St James Park outfit have now made a firm enquiry for the player, according to the Express.

Newcastle face a battle to land him, though, after Marseille told interested clubs that Thauvin will not be sold under any circumstances with the club’s president Vincent Labrune singing his praises for the work hes done this Ligue 1 season.

“He is one of the greatest talents of his generation. OM [Olympique Marseille] have great hopes for him. I hope this year will be Thauvin’s year,” Labrune said.

“I’m hoping he will explode.”

Thauvin, who joined Marseille last season in controversial circumstances—the player refused to train with Lille after he signed from Bastia according to french papers — has been "universally hailed as the flagbearer of a glorious new era for French football,"

Newcastle sent chief scout Graham Carr to see Thauvin in action against Monaco on Sunday at the Stade Louis II.
Define "Big Money"
Griffo - well my initial bid of $19m was rejected, so I think a bid of $25m might be enough to capture the player
Wow that is a big amount, if you feel he is worth it, good luck!

November Update

Newcastle United celebrate one of their two goals against West Brom

Monthly fixtures

November began terribly with a loss against Nottingham Forest, a team we were expected to win against, and comfortably. but the form book was thrown out the window as Forest came out of the blocks fast and went 2-0 up inside 20 minutes, Ayoze Perez pulled one back after half time but it wasnt enough as Forest held on for a memorable win

a trip to Selhurst Park followed, Clement Grenier gave us an early lead which allowed our midfield to slow down play and really take control, Crystal Palace didnt really offer anything going forward. Sissoko would double the lead just after the restart to give us a comfortable 2-0 lead, Brede Hangeland would score a shocking own goal late on to give Newcastle a 3-0 lead, after Palace had pulled one back 5 minutes earlier

we followed that 3-1 win away last game with a 2-0 win at the Hawthorns thanks to Balanta and Hatem Ben Afa, the boys looked in total control throughout and thoroughly deserved the win

Chelsea came to St James Park for the last match of the month and completely dominated from start to finish, Diego Costa caused Coloccini and Balanta all sorts of trouble and finished the match with two goals

Barclays Premier League Table

After a month that concsisted of two wins and two draws we currently sit 4th, Manchester United are looking very strong and i think it will take a massive effort from anyone to dislodge Louis Van Gaal's side from the top, Cardiff are still in 3rd and are playing some very attractive attacking football.

Upcoming Fixtures

The busy month of December begins with a home clash against an inconsistent Tottenham Hotspur side looking to get their season back on track, Manchester United follows that, and a daunting trip to Old Trafford, United are yet to concede a goal so far at home. Everton at home begins the festive period where we play 4 games in 12 days, Everton. Burnley and Swansea will see us wrap up December, and a truly crazy month

I still can't get over Cardiff. Don't worry they're too high and will run out of oxygen soon! Huge games against Spurs and United mate, good luck!
Decent results but the loss to Forrest is unacceptable :P
4th is decent considering last season, and your performance in the CL has been great so far!
Lost to forrest? Unlucky man lol hopefully a better month
Cardiff?! Seriously?!

Matchday 5 & 6

Newcastle United v Paris Saint Germain

PSG arrived at St James Park knowing they had to get a result against Newcastle in order to stand any chance of progression to the round of 16, but the home side took early control of the match and already had 4 shots in first 10 minutes but yet again their rustiness in fromt of goal came to the fore as the score remained 0-0.
Ibrahimovic though did nearly break the deadlock after some great link up play with Edinson Cavani, but could only blast his shot high and wide of Tim Krul.

As the second half began, Newcastle United again started strongly and Clement Grenier thought he had given the home side the lead on 65 minutes after a Cabella through ball found him in space, Grenier made no mistake in putting it past Sirigu but the linesman had already raised the flag and ruled the goal out for offside.

Newcastle United wouldnt have to wait much longer to find the Breakthrough though as Papiss Cisse was found with a delicious cross by Kurzawa to powerfully head home, as things stood, it was the home side who eould be heading toward the knockout stages. Remy Cabella soon ofund a second goal as he wriggled his way through Silva and Varane before placing the ball in the bottom left corner with ease.

PSG rallied late to try find one goal but to no affect as Newcastle United booked their place in the next round

Bayern Munich v Newcastle United

With qualification already secured there was no pressure on Ginola's men to get a result here, but Bayern on the other hand had to win to secure second spot and they did just that with a dominant display against the lacklustre away side.
Thomas Muller gave Bayern the lead on 18 minutes after some fine one touch football that left the Newcastle defenders chasing shadows, before Muller poked home from 6 yards out, Bayern would go onto to dominate the half with another 9 shots before the interval.

The second half began like the first half ended, with Bayern in complete control, Newcastle did manage to hold on until the 87th minute, but Lewandowski was found in acres of space after a lovely ball from Schweisteiger, the striker made no mistake by tucking the ball under Tim Krul. Things did get worse for Newcastle just after the goal when CLement Grenier had to be taken on after a heavy tackle from Marc Bartra left him in lots of pain.

Champions League Group Stage

What a result!!, to qualify from this group is an amazing achievement considering we were tipped to come last. but we managed to beat Bayern once, PSG once and beat Napoli at home and away, Bayern Munich did finish second in the group after a terrible start to the group, Napoli will move into the Europa League whilst PSG European campaign ends for another year

Absolutely no shame in losing to Bayern but that win over P$G and qualifying in 1st from the group are unreal achievements! Great job mate, you've got the Toon Army firing!
Great effort in the group, what were the boards expectations?
