JANUARY REVIEW

Wolfsburg Start 2nd Half of Season with a Bang

FRIENDLIES

WOLFSBURG VS FC HEIDENHEIM
5-1
Memphis Depay
Naldo, Memphis Depay x3, Daley Blind

A game where Wolfsburg will be looking to give their new signings a chance to perform, and get their match fitness up and learn the tactics during the break. Wolfsburg should comfortably beat this Bundesliga 2. team. The first corner of the game, 12 minutes in, De Bruyne took it and crossed it into Naldo who easily put the ball past the keeper(1-0). Minutes later, a terrific ball from Christian Träsch across the field to Memphis Depay, allowed the Dutchman to cut inside and them power the finish past the keeper(2-0). 10 minutes later, a great counter-attack from Heidenheim allowed them to get a good shot on goal, despite a good first block from Benaglio, he could not hold onto it and they scored the rebound(2-1). Early in the second half, some great ball movement on the right hand side from Arteta and Träsch set up an easy cross for Christian who passed it to Depay and another easy goal for the winger/striker(3-1). Arteta would get himself involved again moments later, as he took a great corner and got it to Daley Blind who finished it(4-1). Depay would get the chance to get his hat-trick late in the half, when some great attacking movement from Wolfsburg gave him an easy chance to finish(5-1). The man of the match went to the hat-trick scorer Memphis Depay who was great with any chance in front of goal he was given.

WOLFSBURG VS PADERBORN
3-0
Naldo
Angelo Henriquez x2, Luiz Gustavo

The first Bundesliga game after the break will give Wolfsburg a great chance to get their run going again, they finished well before Christmas and they will be looking to continue that, they showed their good touch in their big friendly win. The game was a back and forth affair, with both GK's making quality saves, but after half an hour, a short corner move from Wolfsburg allowed Henriquez a chance to finish the goal, and he did(1-0). When Wolfsburg tried the same move 10 minutes later, they had a similar result, though this time the keeper deflected it down to Luiz Gustavo who scored(2-0). One hour in, they again tried the same corner move, and got the same result with Angelo Henriquez scoring his second(3-0). There were many different people who could have one POTM, and it eventually went to the Brazillian Naldo, who was a rock in the defence and made sure that they kept a clean sheet.

WOLFSBURG VS WERDER BREMEN
1-0
Ricardo Rodriguez
Mikel Arteta

These two teams had a disappointing draw at the start of the season, but from there these teams have gone in opposite directions, Werder Bremen have fallen down the ladder to 13th while Wolfsburg are in behind Bayern and Dortmund in 3rd. In the 20th minute, a short corner to Depay let Depay get in a cross, which Naldo headed down to Mikel Arteta to tap in for Wolfsburg(1-0). The second half was a very nervous and slow half for Wolfsburg, who were just looking to hold on. That is exactly what they did as they won the game on the back of a man of the match performance from Ricardo Rodriguez, who made sure they did not lose it in the second half.

Arteta always enjoyed scoring a goal for Arsenal, now he is doing it in Germany

Dunlop To Be Offered New Contract?

The Wolfsburg manager has only been managing for one year, and he has taken the league by storm. His Wolfsburg side find themselves in 3rd place, performing much better than expected. Especially considering only 2 months into his role his job was at risk. The fans are particularly fond of Dunlop and hope to see him continue to have control over Wolfsburg.

Dunlop Offered New Contract

The news is official in Germany today, Wolfsburg have offered an extension to Dunlop, with the expectation that he can qualify for the EUROPA league. The contract extension is rumoured to run until 2018 and he has even told the club he will accept another wage cut. The same reasons apply as to his original contract.

The players have been telling him that he should accept the contract as they are all very fond of him and that they play at their best while he is the manager. They say his work with tactics is one of the main reasons that they are where they are at the moment.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH
The Dutch striker was in great form this month, scoring a hat-trick in their friendly and then assisting a couple others in the following games. He has been great in the strike force of himself, Angelo Henriquez and Alexandre Lacazette. The fans will be expecting more of the same from him.
Nice month there, Depay looks to have played well!
hopefully you get a new contract, solidify your position
Great detail in these, keep it up! Maybe you can add the league table to make it easier to see where you stand?
@joethequin - he has been a best - I play a formation with three strikers and he makes the most chances

@degs - it will be good to hang around longer

@zed - maybe it is going to be a suprise?

FEBRUARY REVIEW

WOLFSBURG HAVE ANOTHER UNDEFEATED MONTH

WOLFSBURG VS GLADBACH
0-0
Ricardo Rodriguez

Wolfsburg will be facing their first challenge of the year in Gladbach. Gladbach beat Wolfsburg in their first game this year, thanks to a hat-trick from Raffael and Wolfsburg will be looking for revenge. The game had fairly little chances in the first-half. But Gladbach would have the upper-hand thanks to a bad tackle from Christian Träsch that earned him a red card. But one of the most boring second halves you will ever see meant that the game would finish in a 0-0 draw. Ricardo Rodriguez picked up the man of the match, he had a very good passing and defensive game.

Ricardo Rodriguez Wins Player of the Week

Wolfsburg's Swiss left-back Ricardo Rodriguez has won Bundesliga player of the week again. He has been in great form for Wolfsburg, picking up the player of the game against Gladbach and Werder Bremen. He has been the feature in this week's team of the week, that featured team mates Kevin De Bruyne and new signing Mikel Arteta.

Dunlop Agrees Contract Extension

Wolfsburg fans have been blessed with the news that Dunlop has accepted the contract extension from the club until 2018.

The Australian/German has kept Wolfsburg in great touch this year, getting them into third. The announcement of the extension has got the fans and players excited and looking forward to a terrific future with Dunlop.

WOLFSBURG VS HSV
2-1
Memphis Depay
Memphis Depay, Ivan Perisic

Last time these teams played, Dunlop's job was under speculation and the team was not playing well, HSV were also playing very well at this point. But since then, they have only not won 7 of their last 25 and now that Dunlop will be at the club for a longer time, they will be the certain favourites. The first half was one of the most chanceless halves you can watch, but the first 10 minutes of the second half featured a lot more. No more than 20 seconds after the half-time whistle, Memphis Depay went on another spectacular run, dribbling around 4-5 people, he then put another incredible finish past the keeper(1-0). 5 minutes later, HSV replied with a terrific header from a corner from Vossen(1-1). Moments later, some terrific build up play from Wolfsburg, let Depay put Perisic through, and finish the goal(2-1). Despite many more chances, that would be how the game finished, with Wolfsburg winning 2-1. The man of the match was striker Memphis Depay, who scored one of the goals of the season and assisted another, he has been in great form recently.

Träsch Suspension Extended

Inform Wolfsburg right back Christian Träsch has been awarded another two match ban for his tackle against Gladbach. He did not dispute the decision and neither did the club, who will be playing Junior Malanda and Jung in his position until he comes back.

WOLFSBURG VS FRIEBURG
2-0
Robin Knoche
Memphis Depay x2

Another game where Wolfsburg should win. They are projected as favourites for this game and the current form they are in you would think that they would do well to lose. The game started well for Wolfsburg, who after endless shots on goal, finally got away an accurate one with Memphis Depay who put the goal away(1-0). When Wolfsburg attempted their signature corner move again, it worked, with Memphis Depay putting away his second(2-0). The second half did not feature the same spark as the first, and the game would finish with the same score. The man of the match was Robin Knoche, who made some great clearances and assisted one of Depay's goals.

TRABZONSPOR VS WOLFSBURG
1-1
Memphis Depay
Memphis Depay

The first game of the EUROPA league knockout stage puts a German side against a Turkish side. The currently undefeated side in the EUROPA league, Wolfsburg should win this game easily. The game did not start well for Wolfsburg though, who thanks to an error from Timo Horn allowed a goal into the back of the net(0-1). But shortly after, a great move from Wolfsburg allowed Memphis Depay to put away his third in two games(1-1). Maximillian Arnold thought he had taken the lead for Wolfsburg, but the goal was disallowed. That is how the game would finish, 1-1. Wolfsburg will be disappointed that they did not win the game, but they did get a crucial away goal. Memphis Depay picked up the man of the match for his goal and good attacking options.

WOLFSBURG VS SCHALKE
4-1
Memphis Depay
Memphis Depay x2, Ricardo Rodriguez, Alexandre Lacazette

A massive battle between 3rd and 4th. Where Wolfsburg should be favourites because of their recent form. The league positions will not move however whatever the result. It looked like the first half would end with the score being 0-0, but right on the break, some great movement off of a corner from Wolfsburg allowed Memphis Depay to put another goal away(1-0). Almost immediately after the kick-off from the goal, Schalke turned the ball over and yet again, Memphis Depay found himself in the right place at the right time, to put away Wolfsburg's 5th consecutive goal(2-0). In the 57th minute, Ricardo Rodriguez lined up a free-kick from outside the box and split the wall to stop Depay's run of goals(3-0). Late in the game, Robin Knoche gave away a penalty, that was put away by Huntelaar(3-1). To put the nail in the coffin, a poor clearance from Schalke, fell down to Lacazette, who put it away with ease(4-1). Man of the match of course went to Memphis Depay, who continued his great run of form with two more goals.

Depay Wins Player of the Week and Features in Team of the Week

Dutch Wolfsburg striker, Memphis Depay has been awarded the Bundesliga player of the week. The striker was in great form in front of goal, scoring three goals and assisting one other. He has been one of Wolfsburg's main reasons they sit where they do.

TRABZONSPOR VS WOLFSBURG
2-1
Kevin De Bruyne
Kevin De Bruyne, Ivica Olic

The second leg in the First Knockout Stage of the EUROPA league. Wolfsburg will be slightly ahead with the fact that they scored an away goal, but at home they should win fairly comfortably. The game started superbly for Wolfsburg, who after 7 minutes took the lead thanks to a terrific long shot from Kevin De Bruyne(1-0). On the stroke of half-time, Erarslan, received his second yellow card for diving, and the striker would miss the rest of the game. Midway through the second-half, a mistake from the Turkish side allowed Ivica Olic to split the defence and probably put the game away for Wolfsburg(2-0). On 80 minutes Olic thought he had a second, but he was called offside. Immediately after that call, the opposition got to the other end of the field and scored to scare the Wolfsburg fans(2-1). But Wolfsburg would hold onto win the game and the draw (3-2) on aggregate. The man of the match was Kevin De Bruyne who scored a quality goal and had some terrific passes.

Wolfsburg to play Sporting Lisbon

After winning their tie against Trabzonspor, Wolfsburg will get to play the first leg of the second round at home, hosting Portuguese team, Sporting Lisbon. Lisbon beat Grasshoppers 4-1 on aggregate to get here, they are currently top of their league.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH
The Dutch striker has picked up his second consecutive Wolfsburg player of the month award. He scored a terrific 6 goals this month, he was also setting up goals. Wolfsburg will be looking for him to keep scoring goals next month.
The match updates are well written and descriptive, and your performances for the difficult German league are astounding. Using Depay, De Bruyne and even odds and ends players like Olić to the best of their potential will get you far.

However, consider not writing about *every* match. Without discounting the importance of every match to the season, as a reader, it is important that the matches we read about are gripping, and feel important in every way. For example, I nearly skipped over the update about Trabanzbor, when that is clearly an important match, simply because it was packaged in a large amount of other match updates. As a writer, your story should be a curated selection of important matches in your game... not necessarily every match. Similarly, you can write longer updates about important matches that command your reader's attention, and even delve into some backstory.

Also, I noticed you negotiated a smaller salary for yourself. I notice that whatever your salary is, it's only going to be a few drops in the bucket for the wage management, unless your club is financially destitute. Go right ahead and negotiate the largest possible salary, even if you can't spend it. You deserve it, and it helps with the realism.

My 5 cents. Take it or leave it.
