Dunlop Sits Down to Discuss Wolfsburg Tactics
After declining multiple times throughout Wolfsburg's run last season. Dunlop has now sat down with BBC Sport to discuss the tactics that he played throughout the season.
The first tactic they discussed is the one pictured above, quickly after Dunlop showed the picture, he was asked about the vacant LCM position. Which he pointed out was a deep lying playmaker, and then said that they would have to wait to see who would fill it. He said that this is the formation that we used for the majority of the last season. He said that the fact that he had 3 capable strikers, and 5 (LB, RB, CAM, CM,CM) who could feed the ball to them made the opposition constantly worry about where they would be getting it from. This formation really shined Ricardo Rodriguez and Christian Träsch, who had incredible seasons as supporting full-backs. He also told the press to expect more of this formation throughout the seasons to come.

The second tactic, a new one that will be implemented by Wolfsburg this season, leaves a lot to be desired. Dunlop has labelled this as his own 'slightly more attacking park-the-bus' which we saw Jose Mourinho implement in important games where he looked to not concede. Again it was picked up that he had not listed a CB, where Dunlop again told the BBC Sport that they could wait for further information, or that he has not made up his mind yet. He said that his squad has been running this tactic in training and that not only are they keeping out goals, but they are still scoring them. He said that the importance of the mid CB being a covering ball-playing CB, improves the coverage and passing of the team.

The final tactic, which we saw in action a few times last season. Is Dunlop's all out attack; he used it in their 6-0 flogging of POAK and other dominate games. The important part of this tactic he pointed out, is that the striker played up front is deadly quick, like Memphis and Alexandre. It is also crucial that the DM can play long balls ahead to the wingers and striker.
Dunlop Brings Two More In
Shortly after meeting with the BBC to discuss his tactics, Wolfsburg manager Alexander Dunlop has hosted a press conference just outside of Volkswagen Arena, where he would introduce his two new signings publicly to the club.
As the Press waited anxiously outside the press booth, Dunlop was the first to walk out of the tunnel, before he sat down, he signalled to the door. In walked Wolfsburg's newest signings for a combined fee of £23.25M.

Sami Khedira has been at Liga BBVA runners up Real Madrid since 2010, when he arrived from German Club Stuttgart. The 27-year old spoke to the press weeks ago saying that he was starting to see himself with a move away from Real Madrid, and possibly back to Germany. After being offered numerous contracts, including champions Bayern and ex-club Stuttgart, he decided that he wanted to join a club that was not top, but getting there. So this year Khedira has joined Wolfsburg. This has also ended the speculation about who will be playing in the second midfield role. He will likely be rotated with Luiz Gustavo and Mikel Arteta through the year. His fee was £13.25M pounds. The German-international is thoroughly looking forward to getting back into German football and may even play in Wolfsburg's opening friendly in three days.

Closely following Khedira, was 20-year old hot German defensive prospect, Matthias Ginter; who was signed from Borussia Dortmund for £10M. This versatile up and coming youth player only joined Dortmund last season from Freiburg, but could not make any starting appearances in the league. He is also likely to fill the role that Dunlop did not set in the tactics meeting. Dortmund fans are fuming at this sale, saying that he is going to be one of the best German talents and that the fee they got for him is a complete waste.
The news of these purchases is only going to continue to grow Wolfsburg, who are now recognised as not only one of the top teams in Germany, but after winning in the EUROPA league they are considered one of the better clubs in the world. Shirt signings are also set to improve, as Khedira is going to be a hot purchase in stores.
