MATTIA MINESSO SET TO JOIN PARMA IN JULY

01 April 2016

Mattia Minesso has only made 5 appearances for AS Citadella this season.
________________________________________
- Shadow striker will join Parma when his contract expires at AS Citadellia
- Is confident of helping Parma have a successful season in the Lega Pro
- Desperate for future team mates to achieve promotion from Serie D this year

Parma Calcio have today confirmed that midfielder Mattia Minesso will join the club on July 1st when his contract expires at current club AS Citadella. The midfielder becomes manager Paolo Vanoli’s first signing as the club looks set to secure promotion to the third division of Italian football, Lega Pro, in the coming weeks, with Minesso adding strength and depth to an area of Parma’s squad, Vanoli is believed to have thought was in need of reinforcement. Having been a first team regular at current club Citadella in the 2014/2015 season, the attacking midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at the club and is now desperate to prove himself at Parma under Paolo Vanoli.

With Parma likely to be the third club Minesso has represented in Lega Pro, the midfielder said he was excited to play for a team, that only a few years ago would have been a dream to represent. ”A few years ago, this was a huge team that was challenging for trophies at the top end of the Italian football pyramid, and now, it might have fallen down in the dumps a bit, but the work Paolo is doing there this season shows that the club is on its way back up and it’s going to be an opportunity for me that I cannot afford to turn down. Hopefully the boys that are there at the minute can do what the club needs them to do for the rest of the season and get the club back in the third tier.”

Despite saying that he was restricted as to what he could say about a player that at the minute belongs to someone else, Paolo Vanoli did however manage to say; ”Mattia is a player we have been monitoring for a little while now, hoping that his contract situation would turn out the way it has. We felt now was the right time to make a move with the way the club has picked up results in the last couple of weeks, and Mattia is a signing designed to take this club forward in the third tier of Italian football.”

Yeah can't believe we've got a player that on paper, looks to be a quality addition for the level we're at, on a free transfer :D

Don't worry mate I won't ;) still got a lot of work to do to take this team back to where it belongs and making the right signings will be a big part of that :P

Fans Prediction: ”We’ve recovered from another little blip to really put a good run together and now we’re in this situation, where we can secure promotion with victory today. It would send the fans crazy if we did it and we’re all really excited to be in with a shout of securing it today. To do it with a game in hand would be fantastic and would give us a chance to ease off the pressure in the final game of the season, before we start to prepare for the attempt at the divisions Scudetto.”

Fans Prediction: ”I would love for us to ruin the party. We are a good team and in any other season I do think we’d have been challenging for promotion and in Parma the division has had a giant dominating it all year. We can get something against Parma tomorrow and if we stop them being able to secure promotion tomorrow and delay the party a week that would be fantastic.”

PARMA PROMOTED TO LEGA PRO IN FIRST SEASON SINCE BANKRUPTCY

24 April 2016

Captain Alessandro Lucarelli is the only player to have remained at Parma since they were demoted to Serie D, although his contract is expiring in June.
________________________________________
- Club secure promotion in first season since rebranding
- Draw with Romagna Centro enough to send Parma up after Ravenna lose
- Nevio Scala willing to back Vanoli in transfer market to make sure Parma maintain third tier status

Parma have returned to Italy’s professional ranks after the reborn club clinched promotion in their first season following bankruptcy. The new club secured promotion to the third tier with a 3-3 draw with Romagna Centro on Saturday, as second placed Ravenna couldn’t avoid falling to defeat against bottom club Sammaurese. The two-time UEFA Cup winners were wound up last summer after racking up debt of more than 200m euros (£143m).

”The message that comes from Parma is that we’re back,” said captain Alessandro Lucarelli. Parma have eased through Serie D, the highest level of amateur football in Italy, collecting 76 points, by winning 22 of their 37 games played so far this season. The new club, formed in July, is backed by pasta maker Guido Barilla with former coach Nevio Scala as president. Scala, 67, guided Parma to three of their four European successes in the 1990s.

In addition to two UEFA Cups, between 1992 and 2002, Parma also won the European Super Cup, European Cup Winners’ Cup, three Coppa Italia’s and an Italian Super Cup. ”We are enjoying the rewards of an extraordinary ride,” said Scala. ”Let’s enjoy the victory, as it’s the first of a process that we hope will se us as contenders again next year.”

Coach Paolo Vanoli, the former Italy and UEFA Cup winning defender, who played for Parma between 1998 and 2000, said this ”was a victory for the whole city.”

Yes!!! Fully deserved and it's been a beautiful season, let the Parma show roll back into the Serie A sometime soon ;)

League Table

Player of the Month

Francesco Corapi

After another fantastic string of performances, Francesco Corapi takes home the award again, having taken the league by form after the change of system saw him become a first team regular again. Having scored 4 goals and assisted 2 during the final five fixtures, Corapi has had another brilliant run of form and if he can continue playing like that during the teams campaign to win the Scudetto then Parma will have no problems in picking up the trophy.

Serie D Scudetto Fixtures

After topping Girone D in Serie D, Parma now have the chance to compete for the Serie D Scudetto. After being drawn into Group B of the three group first round, Parma will face an away fixture against Girone F winners AS Gubbio, before meeting Girone E winners Chieti at the Ennio Tardini, ten days later. Win both of them and Paolo Vanoli’s men will be guaranteed a place in the Semi Finals in the hunt for the title.

15.04.2016: With just three games to go, Correggese finally ended their search for a new manager by appointing Renato Buso, a Lega Pro winner with Spezia Calcio, as their new man in charge.

Manager’s Thoughts

Fantastic achievement! We’ve earnt promotion and we’ve done it in style and by winning that final game we rounded off the campaign in true style. We now have a Scudetto campaign to have a shot at and hopefully we can go on and pick up the title with some more impressive performances.

God Italy has a strange lower league system, congrats on finishing first!
Congrats on promotion & good luck in the Scudetto!

Must admit, I'm a little confused by it all but I'm pretty easy to confuse :P
