August 2023

We ended last season with a victory against AFC Wimbledon and we repeated the result on the opening day this season. Jake Scrimshaw and Luke Wood picked up from where they left off last season, scoring a goal apiece in a 2-0 win.

Sunday 6th August

The club confirms that our final season ticket sales figure is 1,366, over double our figure from last season which was 613.

Not a day to be a defender as we shared ELEVEN goals with Scunthorpe. Luckily for us, we scored eight of them with Luke Wood grabbing four of them. A superb performance in front of goal.

We know this season isn't going to be easy and this was our first real test. Just to be playing at a stadium like Charlton's is incredible. The lads can take a lot of heart from the way they played at The Valley, as they were more than a match for Charlton for long periods of the game.

Going to Wigan of the Championship was always going to be a tall order and that's what it proved to be. They were just too good on the day and we were made to rue our wastefulness in front of goal.

After two consecutive defeats, it was great to return to winning ways, especially in the manner that we did. We were superb against Peterborough and eased to a comfortable 4-0 win.

How the hell have we lost that by three goals to nil. That has to be one of the most undeserved 30 defeats in the history of football. This clip just about sums it up.

Another game where the scoreline could have been very different. We really need to start putting our chances away.

We sit in 6th in the League One table, which is excellent. However, if we want to stay there, we need to start putting away our chances in front of goal.

A routine win to begin our defence of the EFL trophy. Two goals on the stroke of half-time were enough for us to pick up all three points against Rochdale.

OH MY DAYS! WHAT JUST HAPPENED!? I thought we'd lost it when we conceded with six minutes to go but two goals in added time gave us the 3-2 win away from home. That made the long journey back up north much sweeter.

WE'VE DONE IT AGAIN! Cameron Beesley with a towering header at the back post to give us the win in stoppage time. Say what you want about this team but we don't give up until the final whistle goes!

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! Three in a row! We were losing with two minutes to go and we've somehow managed to win. I'm not sure if it's the lad's determination or sheer luck that is making it happen but happy days! Not gonna lie though, these games aren't good for my nerves or heart

For a long time, it looked like we weren't going to be able to make the breakthrough but Dominic Johnson had other ideas, scoring a 25-yard rocket into the top corner to give us all three points.

Wednesday 27th September

I'm delighted to announce that I've signed a new deal with Warrington that will run until the end of 2025. I love it here so it was a no brainer and the only way I'll leave this club is if a decent Premier League opportunity arises.

Another late goal but this time it was just a breakaway goal to seal a fine 2-0 away at Fleetwood, a result which takes us to the top of League One.

How different this table could have looked if it wasn't for all those late goals! That said, how good does it look to see us top of League One.

Next Month's Fixtures

Luke Wood has taken to the league like duck to water. As has the whole team! Numerous late goals and plenty of entertainment for supporters - especially during that Scunthorpe game - wow!

Clearly football is proving to be too easy for Warrington FC. Perhaps they should turn their attention to a different sport, like Jenga or water polo.

October 2023

A routine win for us at home against Accrington, even though they did score right at the end to halve the deficit.

Tuesday 10th October

Striker Teddy Healey joins Notts County for a fee of 24k. He was a massive disappointment really so I'm glad to see the back of him.

With it being the EFL Trophy, I decided to give some other players in the squad a run-out. Unfortunately, this backfired as Newcastle U23's beat us at Hilton Park.

I'll be honest, we got lucky away at Sunderland. They had the better chances but we were able to take ours to sneak a 2-1 win and take all three points back to Warrington.

Disappointing draw but given it was against 3rd place, I can't really complain too much. On reflection, it was probably the fairest result for the two teams.

Monday 23rd October

Warrington draw Barrow at home in the FA Cup 1st round

A solid away win and a clean sheet, can't complain about that.

This one was looking like it was going to be a repeat of the Doncaster game but Patrick Crooks had other ideas, finding the net with nine minutes to go to give us a 1-0 win.

A six-point lead at the top of the League One table, albeit with a game more than Portsmouth. Hopefully, we can keep playing well and maintain our spot at the top.

Zach Clough and Luke Wood both know where the goal is and that's certainly helping you pick up the points you require to work towards yet another promotion. It looks to be on the cards. Simply astonishing stuff! Let's hope you can keep it up like you have every other season.

There really is no stopping you is there?! Fantastic results.

Thanks guys. I know it won't last forever but I'm enjoying the good results whilst I can

A really good win away at Bristol Rovers. The match stats may look even but they had half of their shots from distance, which was really pleasing to see.

A pretty easy win to go through to the FA Cup 2nd round, though I would have liked to see us take more of our chances. One negative point from the game was an injury to Luke Woolfenden which may keep him out until the new year.

Monday 13th November

Warrington draw Stevenage at home in the FA Cup 2nd round. It's time for revenge from the 2019/20 season when they knocked us out at the same stage and to break the 'failure to make the 3rd round' curse.

We went into this knowing that we needed a win to progress to the next round and the lads delivered with a professional performance to see us into the next round.

Wednesday 15th November

Warrington will travel to Wolves U23's in the next round of the EFL Trophy.

We got away with one here. We weren't good at all and if it wasn't for Luke Hume saving a late Lucas Akins' penalty, we would have only got a point.

After how we played in our last game, I was worried. Turns out I was right to be worried as Luton outclassed us. I think it's time that I tinker with the system as it doesn't seem to be as effective anymore.

League Table

The gap at the top of the table is now five points and Portsmouth still have that game in hand. Lincoln in 4th also have a game on us. A big December coming up.

Next Month's Fixtures

The Warrington Way

December 2023

Monday 4th December

Warrington or Stevenage will play Sheffield Wednesday at home in the FA Cup 3rd round draw.

We went into this in the rare situation of knowing who we would face if we went through but I don't think it affected the lads though. What did affect the game was Stevenage's red card after just seven minutes. It meant that Stevenage sat back and we had to break them down, which we did eventually in the second half to book our place in round three and break the curse.

Saturday 9th December

The home game vs Carlisle is called off due to a waterlogged pitch

This game was over in the first half as we hit SEVEN past Wolves U23's in 45 minutes, our FIVE away fans were in dreamland. I've never seen anything like it, an incredible effort from the lads. I must admit though, I did have a chuckle when the second half ended goalless after seeing eight goals in the first.

Wednesday 13th December

Warrington will travel to either Sunderland or Carlisle in the EFL Trophy Northern Section 3rd round

A great result away at Ipswich, one we really hard to earn as they pressed to find a way back into the game. Luke Hume was the hero, making seven saves to keep the hosts at bay.

A huge game with Lincoln sitting in 3rd place, just three points behind us. Apparently the players didn't think so as they failed to turn up, putting in a woeful performance.

Clicl here for Match Stats

Relief would be the word I'd use to describe this game. It looked like we were going to lose at home against Wimbledon but a rousing comeback in the second half secured us all three points, despite Wimbledon's late consolation.

Not good enough. We've had our fair share of late goals so we know the importance of playing until the final whistle, however, we let Scunthorpe in the score a 95th-minute equaliser. Disappointing.

League Table

We're still top of the table but only just. It's vitally important that we win our game in hand if we want to stay at the top.

Next Month's Fixtures

Even if the Wolves game did take the limelight with the 8 first-half goals, some good momentum showing here to still be top with a game in hand.

Yeah, we doing really well at the moment. Hopefully we can keep it going

Now, I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure Peterborough is nowhere near Doncaster so why this was played at the Keepmoat I have no idea. Regardless, we took our chances and went away from Doncaster with a 2-0 win and all three points.

Saturday 6th January

Left-back Tyreke Wilson joins Cork City for a fee of 58k

Absolutely gutted. We defended valiantly and kept them out so well until the 86th minute. I really thought we might do it but it wasn't to be.

Monday 8th January

Warrington or Sheffield Wednesday will play Preston away in the FA Cup 4th Round

Callum Gribbin joins on loan from Sheffield United

Can someone please explain to me how we've not won this game. We battered Charlton and should have scored at least two or three.

Yet another draw. I'm starting to get a little concerned over our current form, to be honest. We are starting to drop points regularly, which we can't afford to do if we want to stay at the top.

GET INNNNNNNN! WHAT A F****** PERFORMANCE. We went to Hillsborough with a gameplan and executed it perfectly. Score a goal then defend like crazy and win 1-0. I couldn't be happier after that one.

Wednesday 17th January

Zach Clough ruled out for 3-4 weeks with sprained ankle ligaments

Friday 19th January

Jordan Thomas joins Rotherham for a fee of 120k. I didn't want to sell him but I couldn't turn don that kind of offer.

Saturday 20th January

MASSIVE NEWS! Just as I was negotiating a loan signing to replace Jordan, I received this! I didn't even know that Tony was looking to sell the club! This would be a game-changer in terms of our finances and would hopefully allow us to upgrade our facilities.

Oh my days! What just happened? Talk about the tale of two halves. We started the match dreadfully, going 3-0 down inside the first half. At half time I tweaked the system slightly and we were like a completely different side and we somehow ended up scoring four and winning. Speechless.

Sunday 21st January

Well, that was short-lived.

For our EFL Trophy game at Sunderland, I decided to use the system which worked so well against MK Dons, if only to see if it was a fluke. As it turned out, it was no fluke with us progressing to the next round against Man United U23's with a 2-1 win.

Thursday 25th January

Right-back Liam Shephard joins on loan from Preston.

WARRINGTON TOWN ARE IN THE FA CUP 5TH ROUND. I can't believe that we've managed to go to the home of a Championship side and win again. What a superb performance from the lads, sure Preston were the more dominant side, but they did what they had to do and took their chances when they came.

Monday 29th January

Warrington Town to travel to ARSENAL in the FA Cup 5th round. Get in!

After our cup exploits, it was back to league action with a home game against Plymouth. It was one-way traffic at Hilton Park for most of the game but they somehow managed to rob us with two goals against the run of play.

Wednesday 31st January

Patrick Crooks joins Burnley for a fee of 600k. I'm absolutely gutted. He has a 600k release clause and there was absolutely nothing I could do. To make matters worse it was right on the deadline so I can't even get a replacement in.

Team Stats

Player Stats

That poor result against Plymouth puts us into second but we do have two games in hand on the teams around us. We need to make them count! Also, our next game is a massive one way at Portsmouth, where we need a result.

An absolutely HUGE result. That could be the difference between automatic promotion and playoffs right there. It looked like the game was going to be a draw but Robson Shipley was the hero, scoring a brilliant winner towards the end.

Tuesday 6th February

The home game against Carlisle is postponed due to a waterlogged pitch

I had to go to the press but we finally have some improvement work going on.

Wednesday 7th February

Midfielder John Buckley joins on a free transfer

A solid 1-0 win at home against Orient. We probably should have scored more than we did but at this stage of the season, I don't care as long as we get the three points.

Another one of those freak poor performances. Mansfield were the better team on the day.

We should have scored more than we did but three points and job done. A great way to bounce back from the Mansfield defeat.

So no EFL Trophy this season. I'm not going to blame the lads though. Who in their right mind thought that scheduling the game for a Monday, TWO DAYS after a league game was a good idea. Morons.

Saturday 24th February

Ok, I wasn't expecting this. Crystal Palace in the Premier League want me as their manager. I've asked for some time to think it over but I think I'll be saying no. I believe there will be better options out there in the future.

Frustrating. We looked set for another three points but we switched off at the end and Accrington capitalised.

This was a big game as it was one of our games in hand. Thankfully, the lads delivered a good performance and got the win, despite Luke Wood seeing red in the first half.

We are back at the top of the table after that win over Carlisle. Our other game in hand is going to be the key I think.

Next Month's Fixtures

It's a very close race at the top, that's for sure. The scheduling comes as no surprise when you consider how much of a joke the competition is to begin with. I think you're better off out of it, although at that stage it's a disappointment to lose. Turning down Palace is a big decision, but certainly an indication as to where your stock could about to go.
