Pre-season 2021

Sunday 9th May

I began planning for next season early and began with signing centre-back Harvey Rodgers on a free transfer

Tuesday 11th May

We confirm the signing of midfielder Ben Fox. This one is a big risk given his current injury but I feel his quality is enough to take the risk.

Sunday 6th June

Josh Hosie joins Falkirk for a fee of 9.25k

Monday 14th June

Jay Foulston renews his loan from Newport for another season.

Saturday 3rd July

Midfielder Martin Smith joins on a free transfer

Tuesday 13th July

Lewis Blackshaw joins Leamington on a free transfer

Our match against Chesterfield in October is chosen for TV. That's an extra 2k into the club which is great.

Thursday 22nd July

Left-back Lewis Kinsella joins on a season long loan from Walsall

Saturday 24th July

Youngsters Bob Clarke and Curtis Butler are promoted to the first team to provide back-up if we need it.

The Warrington Way

2021/22 Squad

We've managed to add some real quality ahead of the new season in the National League. I really think we can make a push for the playoffs, if not even higher.

Jay Foulston
Jordan Corke
Harvey Rodgers
Tom Anderson

Kaine Kesler
Curtis Butler

August 2021

Absolute scenes as we win our first ever game in the National League with the last kick of the game, which we deserved in my opinion.

Sunday 8th August

The club announces that the final figure for season ticket sales is 207, up from 149 last season.

What an incredible performance that was. Down to ten and a goal down, I thought our race was run but the lads responded magnificently to score four and win by four goals to one.

So we dropped points for the first time this season but we can be really proud of the way we fought back to get a draw, despite not being at our best.

So many goals. I wasn't impressed with the way we played in the first half, going 0-1 then 1-2 down before bringing it back to 3-2 on the stroke of half-time. In the second half, the lads improved and we romped to a 6-2 victory.

Football, it's a funny old game. We had a man sent off early but despite that were the better side throughout. Ryan Huddart in the Bromley goal was sensational and kept the score at 0-0 until Luke Charman popped up in injury time to give us all three points and our second 'limbs' moment of the season.

We just couldn't get that one goal to give us all three points against Maidenhead, which was frustrating. On another day we could have scored 2 or 3 but it just wasn't our day.

A great result at home against Eastleigh. It was especially pleasing to score 6 given our problems in the last two games.

Top of the league in the National League! That's definitely something I wasn't expecting at the end of August.

September 2021

A superb win away at Dover, one we deserved even without the sending off for Dover.

After 74 minutes, I was the angriest man in the stadium after watching us blow a 2-0 lead. Thankfully, Luke Charman popped up with an 88th-minute winner to give us another three points.

If I'm going to be supercritical, I'm disappointed that we've only scored one in this game. We had enough chances to win three goals but Sam Johnson in the Halifa goal was on fire, making 8 saves.

This was a great away performance and a thoroughly deserved win in the end. Tyreke Wilson was outstanding, notching two assists.

A very pleasing performance. We did make things a little hard for ourselves when we conceded with 22 minutes to go but we held on with a professional display of defence.

I was very surprised to see this end with just the one goal. Both sides could have scored about 3 or 4 each. Nevertheless, I'll happily take a 1-0 win and all three points.

An easy win and it could have been more comfortable had Ollie Banks converted his penalty. Job done.

Whilst it was annoying to drop points, Chorley probably deserved a point based on the way the game went. We need to work on creating more clear cut chances.

Sunday 26th September

Great news today as I sign a contract extension

Another game where we've had a load of chances but only managed to score one. Thankfully our defence is letting us get away with it by keeping clean sheets, however, it is starting to become a concern.

Another really busy month. The National League really is relentless in terms of fixtures.

The Warrington Way

October 2021

A deserved win in a match we dominated throughout, even if it did take us until stoppage time to get a second goal.

Monday 4th October

Warrington draw Farsley Celtic at home in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round

I'll be honest, we got lucky. Chesterfield more than deserved something from the game but our defence and keeper Joe Fryer were on top form to shut them out.

We may have been lucky last time out but there was no luck involved here. We absolutely decimated Woking and it could have been more than six.

A great win away from home. We never really gave Ebbsfleet a chance, looking comfortable throughout the game.

One perk of being in the National League is that we start our FA Cup campaign a little later than we're used to. As expected, we breezed past Farsley Celtic, despite Djed Spence's attempts to make it interesting by stupidly getting himself sent off.

Monday 18th October

Warrington draw Carlisle at home in the FA Cup 1st Round

I should have seen this coming. It was only a matter of time before our discipline problems came around to haunt us and it's finally happened. Tyreke Wilson's sending off the start of a dreadful performance which saw us lose our unbeaten record. Fuming.

Someone get me a pint because I need one after that game. I've experienced the full range of emotions. I was delighted when we were 3-0 up, to wanting to kill someone when they made it 3-3 in stoppage time, to wanting to hug everyone in sight when Fidel O'Rourke made it 4-3 with the last kick of the game. Madness.

This is a HUGE result. 1st vs 2nd with a win extending our lead at the top of the National League table. What a time to put in a performance like that. Fantastic.

After such a good win against Fylde in our last game, this result leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. We weren't good enough, it's as simple as that. You can't have 21 shots on goal and not score, regardless of how well their keeper plays. A big improvement is needed in our next game.

November 2021

The scoreline makes the game look a lot closer than it was. We were in control by half-time and never looked like losing the lead, despite their two second-half goals.

This was a close game between two good sides but I felt we shaded it overall. One thing is for sure though, we should have scored more than one given the chances we had.

Another 1-0 win where we should have scored more. The difference between this game and the last is that Salford should feel hard done by. I reckon they deserved something from the game but saying that I'm not complaining about us picking up all three points!

Monday 22nd November

Warrington draw Chester at home in the FA Trophy 1st Round

So our FA Cup run is over as we bow out at the 1st round stage. I have no complaints, Carlisle were just the better team on the day.

Thursday 25th November

The attendance of 2,201 at the Carlisle game breaks the club record for attendance and gate receipts

Back to league action with a bore draw at home against Dagenham, a disappointing result. Our lack of goals is starting to get a bit worrying if I'm being honest.

December 2021

3rd December

Striker Andy Cook joins on a free transfer. I'm hoping he'll help us with our recent lack of goals.

Look up game of two halves in the dictionary and you'll find this game. We were awful in the first half and rightfully went in behind but after some strong words, the lads produced an excellent fightback to score five in the second half.

Absolutely delighted to make it safely through to the next round in a competition that we are looking to win. The game did highlight one negative though, our attendance figures. Chester had more fans than us which is extremely worrying and is something we need to address if we can.

Monday 13th December

Warrington draw Chorley at home in the FA Trophy 2nd Round

Dropping points at home is always disappointing but I think this was the right result given how the game went. A win for either team would have been harsh on the other.

Thursday 28th December

Gillingham offer 100k for Luke Charman. I didn't really want to accept it but he wouldn't have been happy if I hadn't and the club desperately needs the money

It seems that the results come, irrespective of what division you're in! Fantastic work once again. Focusing on more recent events, I know you're fully aware of Cook's abilities in front of goal, so that's an excellent signing. It will certainly cover the blow of losing Charman for, admittedly, a decent fee.

The Warrington Way

January 2022

I decided to switch it up for this game, going to a 41221/433. The result was excellent with us dominating the game and picking up all three points, however, that may be due to Maidenhead's early red card. We'll have to see in the next game.

2nd January

Jay Foulston has unfortunately been recalled by parent club Newport County

I have to be honest, I'm disappointed that we've not won this. We had enough chances but we just didn't put them away. Hopefully, we'll have better luck in Wednesday's replay.

Sunday 9th January

Some bad news today as Martin Smith is ruled out for up to three weeks with broken ribs

Monday 10th January

Warrington or Chorley will play away at Oxford City or Sutton in the FA Trophy 3rd round.

Theo Vassell signs on a free transfer as a replacement for Jay Foulston

We were rubbish and deserved to get knocked out. A lot of work to be done at training.

Our inability to put chances away is really starting to do my head in. The sending off of Tyreke Wilson didn't help but we had more than enough chances to win the game. Cameron Archer and Fidel O'Rourke are both on goal droughts, which is worrying.

Striker Courtney Baker-Richardson joins us on loan from Crewe for the rest of the season. Not a signing I wanted to make but the worrying form of our other strikers has forced my hand.

This is what happens when you have a striker who can actually put the ball in the net. We weren't even that good, we just took our chances whilst Joe Fryer had a good game in goal for us.

What a result that is! 2nd vs 1st and we've come away from home and won. Make no mistake, Cheltenham were absolutely quality but I took a risk and it paid off. At 2-1 down, I decided to switch from 442 to 433, moving Seb Quirk into an advanced playmaker role in midfield, who then went on to score two and give us the win. Fantastic!

That massive win against Cheltenham means we now have a huge lead at the top of the table. If we manage to **** this up from here then we should all retire.

February 2022

1st February

The home game against Chesterfield as postponed due to a waterlogged pitch

Before the game, I would have been disappointed with this result but I can't be given how the game went. I'm angry with Tom for getting sent off but the way the lads fought back from 2-0 down with ten men is extraordinary. What an effort.

A fantastic win against Chesterfield sees us guarantee a National League playoff place, however, we're aiming for bigger things!

What in the blue hell just happened. We went 2-0 up and then inexplicably forgot how to play football against a team who hadn't won in 20 games. To say I'm seething is an understatement and it just shows how much of a rebuild will be needed if we do get promoted.

Wow, what a crazy game. In eight second-half minutes, the score went from 0-0 to 3-2 to us with us leading, going behind to leading again. I'm just glad we managed to get the 3 points in the end.

For this game, I decided to take a massive risk and try something new. Out went the 4-2-2-2 and in came the 5-2-3 (WB). The jury is still out but we had NINE clear cut chances! If only we had decent strikers...

Tuesday 8th March

THIS IS HUGE. We are officially a FOOTBALL LEAGUE club.

Another huge bit of news is that WARRINGTON TOWN ARE GOING PROFESSIONAL. This is fantastic news as it'll mean I can attract better players to the club and train them more to suit how I want us to play.

One negative though is the budget we will have next season, which will be just 16k. That'll definitely be the lowest in the league so we'll be doing well to be competitive.

An absolute goal-fest! It was great to see all our strikers get on the score sheet.

I would have liked more than one goal but at least it's a win. I will definitely be upgrading our striking options in the summer, our current crop just aren't consistent enough.

I'm angry at this result. Morgan Whittaker missed THREE one on ones that could have given us the win. Andy Cook also missed a header from about 3 yards. It's unbelievable.
