2013-05-01 18:13#96982 FMJynx : great cup win neal, like the bit about the dive from ademilson, but a bit off the story but look at that inter squad haha, it's scary, Balotelli AND Ibra, Julio Cesar, and Cambiasso in his prime Zanetti and Lucio both in there younger years too, that's a STRONG team hahaha

Thanks Jynx, and yeah, the good ole days when Inter swept aside everyone in Serie A :')

Bergomi: "This Is What We Have Fought For"

Internazionale manager Giuseppe Bergomi spoke with the press today in anticipation of tomorrow's Champions League final against Manchester City, and he made one major statement that is already making headlines. "So far, we have done very little. This is the major test; this is what we have fought for our entire lives, to win the Champions League, and tomorrow we plan to do it."

Many people are astounded that a treble winning season and 76 Serie A games undefeated could be considered little, but the biggest test of the Champions League seems to be forefront in Bergomi's mind. Many people are considering him the 'next Mourinho' that will take football by storm.

Speaking of the self-proclaimed 'Special One', Jose Mourinho graced the press with another famous quote to put down in his long list. "I took this team [Inter] to the title and now I will take it from them. I have far more experience in winning the Champions League than anybody, and I will prove it again tomorrow. Inter are nothing without me."

Bold words from a man whose side finished their Premier League campaign outside of the Champions League places in 5th and need to win to qualify again next season, much as Chelsea did. However, nobody can doubt the managerial talent that Mourinho possesses, and his past wins of the Champions League with numerous clubs and now having steered Man City to their first ever Champions League final proves his ability at the helm of important matches.

It will be a very special final for both coaches in another way as well, as Mourinho will take on his old club and Bergomi will take on his ex-suitor. Only after Bergomi rejected the Manchester City job was Mourinho hired as coach. This rejection won much adoration from the Nerazzurri faithful, and Bergomi went on to alienate City supporters by saying that the club were "ruining football with money".

To add to the occasion, major transfers have gone from Inter to City these last few years. Two international superstars in Wesley Sneijder and Fredy Guarin have made the trek to the Etihad for 25m and 20m euros respectively. The sale of Sneijder was from a financial standpoint two years ago, but Guarin had fallen out of favor this season and was sold in January, and thus is cup tied.

Sneijder when he played with Inter.

Sneijder spoke with reporters and said, "I was sad to leave but glad to embark on a new adventure here in Manchester, where I have enjoyed so much success, and now I am reunited with Mourinho, which I am so thankful for...I did not get to know him [Bergomi] very well but he was very kind in the way things happened and said my transfer was necessary for the club. He has brought great success to Inter, and it should be a wonderful final."

The latest squad news is also in, and for Inter, Joel Obi, Andrea Poli, and Ibrahima Mbaye will miss out due to injury and Fernando Llorente is cup tied. City will be missing cup tied midfielder Fredy Guarin while ex-Arsenal duo Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy will miss out via injury.

We have a cracking UEFA Champions League final before us, with the winning team guaranteed glory and riches, and for Manchester City a place in next year's tournament. Everything is at stake for these two clubs, and we hope for a thrilling final game to the season.

Wow.. Such a great update man! Bergomi FTW!

Lovely update Neal, brilliant stuff :D

The Champions League Final

Ray Hudsen (RH): This is it, this is what the entire footballing world has been waiting for all season long; the UEFA Champions League final! Two massive teams contest the trophy today as Giuseppe Bergomi, who rejected his opponents earlier this season, experiences his first final with Inter and Jose Mourinho leads Manchester City in their first ever final. Inter have a greater history, with 3 competition wins to their name, but with the ‘Special One’ at the helm of City, nothing is guaranteed until the final whistle is blown.

Starting lineups.

Phil Schoen (PS): Take a look at the starting lineups here, and today marks an emotional night for Wesley Sneijder, who takes on the team he left two years ago in a 25m euro transfer. He will start out on the left today, but he will be a danger man for City. Ademilson looks to be the key for Inter today, and will start as the lone striker.

9’ PS: It’s an early chance here for Manchester City from the corner, and Sneijder heads across to take it.
RH: He’s got a number of targets to aim for, quite a few big men for City. It’s a good ball in…YAYA TOURE!
PS: YAYA TOURE WITH A POWERFUL HEADER! Manchester City score early in this final, 1-0!
RH: Well that was abysmal marking from Inter! Where was Ranocchia, who was marking him at the start but was lost far too easily.

14’ PS: The captain Zanetti surging forward now, trying to spur on his side. Oh, that’s a terrible tackle from Tevez!
RH: The ref has blown his whistle and…Carlos Tevez sees red! He’s been sent off! City are down to 10 men 14 minutes in, only moments after they’d taken the lead!
PS: The referee didn’t have much of a choice, did he, Tevez went right over the ball and lashed into Zanetti’s leg. Thankfully the skipper’s alright and will continue playing.

38’ RH: Here comes the explosive young winger, Raheem Sterling, bombing down the flank. Excellent to beat Lescott, puts in a cross.
PS: Cleared poorly by Hummels here, it’s bounced off of him and stayed in the box, Ademilson is first to react, ADEMILSON SCORES! Inter are back on level terms, 1-1!
RH: What a wonderful goal, created purely from the pace and dribbling of Raheem Sterling! You can’t forget the scorer, Ademilson, who reacted with jackrabbit speed to poke the ball into the net!

HT’ RH: What a first half of football we’ve experienced, but it’ll be marred by great controversy with the sending off of Carloz Tevez so early in the game.
PS: Well, Tevez didn’t leave him with much choice with a tackle like that and he’s left Mourinho with a lot of trouble for the remainder of the match. We’ll be back after this.

49’ PS: Here comes Yuto Nagatomo, bursting down the left hand side. Ademilson makes a diagonal run, and he’s found well. Adryan waiting for service in the center, can he get a cross in?
RH: He’s whipped it in, poorly struck…IT’S IN! JOE HART WITH A HORRIBLE ERROR! It slipped right through his hands, and Ademilson’s poor cross has turned into his second goal of the evening and gives Inter the lead!
PS: Bergomi is going mad on the sideline with his staff, elation from the manager! Still a ways to go, even against 10 men.

78’ PS: Sloppy from M’Vila there, and Kompany’s won the ball. Space here for a rare City attack, Inter’s been caught out.
RH: Wonderful ball into Sneijder, he’s through on goal…WONDERFUL FINISH! WESLEY SNEIJDER EQUALIZES AGAINST HIS FORMER CLUB!
PS: Just when you thought the 10 men were down and out, Jose Mourinho’s men find a way! Back on level terms, and the classy Sneijder doesn’t celebrate despite the occasion. Wow, what a shocking final this is turning out to be.
RH: Nobody expected that goal, as City have been parking the bus since they lost Tevez.

90+3’ RH: Inter throwing wave after wave forward to win this one in regular time, here comes Muriel.
PS: Excellent play around the box, he finds Ademilson, one touch to Adryan, he’s through on goal…shocking miss! Could you believe it!?
RH: Clear chance to win the Champions League for Adryan, and he’s screwed it wide. The referee’s blown his whistle, we are heading into extra time!

110’ PS: Nagatomo’s gotten into an ugly challenge there with Aguero, and he’s pulled up quite abruptly. Looks like his game is over, and now both sides are reduced to 10 men! M’Vila will drop back to center back, Juan will shift out wide, and Sissoko will play in M’Vila’s role.

FT’ RH: That’s it! It’s over, and we head into penalties to decide the winner of the Champions League for the 2nd time in 3 years! In each of those two years, one time has been decidedly more dominant, and yet the team sitting back more has won each time; Chelsea and Lille. Could Manchester City join them?

PENALTIES
PS: Aguero will be the first taker, and he steps up calmly. Quick run up…saved by Handanovic! Brilliant dive to his left to keep it out with his fingertips!

RH: Ademilson will be the first Inter player to shoot. He looks focused but nervous, a good run up…saved by Joe Hart! Two brilliant saves from two brilliant keepers, and we are 0-0 after 1 each.

PS: Wes Sneijder will take the next one for City, up against his old team in the final of the competition he won with that team. He hits it…right down the middle! Handanovic saw it the whole way! Another save!

RH: Adryan will take for Inter now, having missed his last chance deep in injury time of regular time. Can he atone? He steps up…Just like Sneijder! Same penalty, same save, this time from Joe Hart! 0-0 after 2 each, keepers on top!

PS: Wow, you can feel the tension. Mats Hummels steps up, the ex-Dortmund defender, to take the kick. Long run up…slammed into the bottom left corner! Perfect penalty, and we have our first goal! 1-0 to City!

RH: Luis Fernando Muriel will look to equalize here for Inter, can he do it? Short run up…oh what a save! Joe Hart cutting through time and space to palm that one away, and now City in a commanding 1-0 lead after 3!

PS: David Silva to take this one, a goal would put all the pressure on Inter’s next taker to stay alive. Calmly steps up, looking confident…slotted home, side-footed! Sent Handanovic the wrong way!

RH: All the pressure is on young Juan Jesus now, he has to score to keep Inter alive in the shootout. You can see the worry in his face. Good run up…SAVED BY JOE HART! BRILLIANT SHOWING FROM THE ENGLAND KEEPER WHO HAS SAVED ALL FOUR PENALTIES! MANCHESTER CITY ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE!

PS: Wow, look at the Manchester City players’ elation! They are going insane, and Jose Mourinho is celebrating right with them! Wonderful, they’ve won their first ever final! Mourinho truly is the ‘Special One’, and it was the ex-Inter player who was most important, Sneijder with an assist and goal to see off Inter!
RH: What a fantastic final, brilliant to the last gasp. Look at the desolate Inter players, on the ground, crying. What an emotional loss for them and their team, a player up for long periods of the match. Juan looks inconsolable, but Bergomi is right with him. The disappointment is in all of their faces.
PS: Here comes Vincent Kompany, and he’s hoisted the trophy! The fans are shouting their lungs out! Manchester City are your UEFA Champions League winners and the kings of Europe!

Manchester City players celebrating.
Ahhhh that sucks man. Next year.

You can imagine my disappointment at only drawing against 10 men and then missing all 4 penalties haha. But I agree, next year. Our team is young and can only grow. Thanks for reading :)
Next year will definitely be your year. It's just so dissapointing to go out on pens..

Agreed. It is, essentially, a lottery, and all of my players were like 22 so the pressure must've been immense.
Unlucky to lose the final but I know that you can bounce back to win it next year!

Bergomi: We Will Return

It was a heartbreaking day for Inter fans yesterday as their side lost the UEFA Champions League final on penalties to Manchester City after drawing 2-2 in regular time. Giuseppe Bergomi delivered an emotional post match speech and took no questions.

"We are disappointed. Of course we are disappointed, we came so far and lost quite heartbreakingly. It was a wonderful run, but we will never be satisfied with this. We will return, and we will claim this title that is rightfully ours. We have a young time that can only improve, and mark my words, we will return and we will win."

Despite being considered long shots for the title, Inter managed to fight their way to the finals, only to be outdone by ex-player Wesley Sneijder, who took home the match ball, and the tactics and mind-games of the 'Special One', Jose Mourinho.

In his post match interview, Mourinho said, "Was there ever a doubt we would win? I thought not. We played fantastic despite being down to 10 men for 100 minutes, and we kept our nerve in penalties. I think City will be a force for years to come, and as I said, Inter will be nothing without me."

Inter fans, while disappointed, have shown widespread support for Bergomi and his side, with many saying that with the youth at his disposal Bergomi can lead Inter to an era of success. Massimo Moratti told the press, "It was a fantastic season and a fantastic cup run. We have complete faith in Bergomi and the youth here, and the Champions League will be ours, it is a matter of when.

Manchester City fans, however, have been elated with their legendary manager. Jose Mourinho has now won the Champions League with 3 different clubs; Porto, Inter, and now Manchester City. To lead the Citizens to their first ever Champions League Final and win has made Mourinho an idol in the blue half of Manchester. We are not sure how long he will stay, however.

"I love it here, of course I do. I want to achieve much more in the Premier League, after that maybe I will move on. There are many things I want to experience that I have not yet."

Season Review

It was, overall, a wonderful season for us, despite a tough start and a heartbreaking end. The domestic double of the Serie A and Coppa Italia as well as the European Supercup take my trophy tally to 6, as well as my Serie A undefeated streak to 76. Here we go, time to review all that happened!

Supercups

Unfortunately, we lost our first game of the season to Juve 1-0 in the Supercoppa Italia. It was a poor performance, but we bounced back against Lille and won the slightly more prestigious European Supercup.

Serie A

This is the final league table. As you can see, we managed to finish a ridiculous 21 points clear of second placed Juventus and again tied our points record of 104. We also managed to concede a meager 17 goals while scoring 78. Next season I expect no less than yet another Serie A title.

Coppa Italia

This was our cup run, all wins. I was especially pleased with our 3-0 aggregate win over Juventus in the semifinal and our 5-2 thrashing of Palermo in the final, our only goals conceded the entire tournament. Like the Serie A, I am certain we can defend this title next season.

UEFA Champions League

As you can see we swept through our group with contemptuous ease, winning all 6 games. We scored 16 goals and conceded 4 in those games, showing our dominance over every team.

Here is the road to the Champions League final, where we took on Manchester City, only to lose in penalties. We beat Lille, Stoke, and Juventus over two legs each on the way there, taking vengeance on the Supercoppa champions and beating the reigning champions. It is always disappointing to lose in penalties, but we did well overall and I expect a win next season.

Players of the Season

This is our best eleven for the season, and the fans voted Andrea Ranocchia player of the season. My personal player of the season, however, has to be 19 year old Adryan. He managed 12 goals and 11 assists and was influential in every match he played. Hopefully he will continue to grow and be a star of the future.

Plans for Next Season

I plan to stay on at Inter next season. We were so close to capturing the Champions League, and next year I think we can one better ourselves. Even after we win that I hope to stay on; this club has done so much for me, I have spent my entire life here. Financially, things are looking up as well, as keeping Inter fiscal is an important part of my job. If things carry on like this, Inter will be a worldwide superstar in no time.
Are you going to sign Handanovic on a permanent deal? Anyways, you need a goalkeeper, as Handanovic is not getting any younger. Good luck Neal
