Muamba 'disappointed' at Kone injury
Fabrice Muamba has gave his thoughts over the recent injury of star-striker Arouna Kone. One of the thoughts that came to his mind was
'disappointed'. The Cote D'Iviore striker, who has scored 11 goals in 17 was also disappointed to be injured. The injury took place during Wigan's 3-2 win, where Kone scored the opening goal. Plus, the striker had to get stretchered off right before half-time in order to receive some treatment. The injury looks like to be a fractured arm and the striker is going to miss 3-4 of Wigan's key matches for a push for a taste of European football for next season. Both the manager and the striker have talked to the press over their feelings towards the injury.
The Latics boss said," It's going to be always hard for any team to be without their goal scorer. It's like taking
Messi or
Ronaldo out of
Barcelona and
Real Madrid." Nevertheless, the Wigan manager has encouraged the other strikers to fill in Kone's place. He said,"
Di Santo,
Fierro or
Henriquez will be able to play throughout this matches. Who knows if either of these three can displace Kone's starting line-up." Before concluding his interview, the former England international said," I hope Kone get's back as strong as he is. I'm disappointed at the ref for not calling the game or the foul when he got tackled."
Meanwhile, the Ivorian striker also agreed to what his manager said. He said," All of the three players that Fabrice (Muamba) mentioned are great players and people. They can displace me right now or even next year, depending how they play." The injured player also said," I'm really gutted to be injured and this has stall the club and most importantly, me." The Wigan player talked about Wigan's European chances for next season. He did say," We are hoping for that. There is a possibility since we are currently sixth and might even make it to the Champions League." He did warn the fans about disappointing them by saying," We might not even make it to the Europa League, but if we don't, we'll probably finish a place above." Before finishing the conference, Kone said," I'd like to wish
Angelo (Henriquez),
Franco (Di Santo) and
Carlos (Fierro) all the good luck while I'm absent."
This has prompted to many Wigan fans talking up about the chances of European football. They have said," It's all because of Muamba. You can't expect us beating teams such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and so on during Muamba's next season." Another Wigan fan outside of The Brittania Stadium said," Kone will be a big miss. I hope that we will be okay with the injury." This will aid teams such as Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool as they are above Wigan and hoping to jump them in the league.
