Why Peterborough 'The Posh' United?

Being a Posh fan myself, I've only ever wanted them to succeed. Even if we were to only taste top flight football for one season, that would be enough for me. I'm a fan of passion, not glory.

In the 2007/08 and 2008/09 season we achieved back-to-back promotion and finished runners up in both League 2 and League 1 obtaining a Championship position which was very well deserved.

After a positive climb up the English football ladder. We struggled to maintain a place in Championship football and finished bottom with immediate relegation.

However, this did not shatter our hopes and dreams and we came back fighting with a blinder of a season. Scoring 175 goals and achieving a well deserved place in the League 1 play-offs. Craig Mackail-Smith banged in 35 goals and became the most prolific scorer in England for the season. We then proceeded to beat Huddersfield at Old Trafford in the play-off finals, scoring 3 goals in 7 minutes and once again gaining promotion to the Championship. An astonishing end to a season us Posh fans will never forget.

The 2011/12 season couldn't come around quick enough. It was our chance to prove we deserved to keep our place in Championship football and that is exactly what we did. We finished in the bottom half, but that was enough to shut up pundits and critics and prove we had enough quality for the league.

Unfortunately, this season was another upset following a very bad run mid-season. Although we came back fighting until the bitter end as always, scoring 66 goals; a mere 6 behind Championship winners, Cardiff City. We were unable to avoid relegation and a late goal by Crystal Palace sealed our fate.

Why Darren Ferguson?

Since Sir Alex Ferguson's son, Darren, took control in 2007. We have celebrated and we have cried. He has become popular within our club and is a manager I feel has the ability to maintain The Posh at the level they are capable of.

He was absent as Peterborough's manager in the 2010/11 season and has won us promotion 3 times and lost us relegation once in 5 seasons with us. A record which should not be taken lightly.

Little Fergie will no doubt be itching to come back stronger than ever. In the real and simulated world. That's what I intend to do and hopefully in a few seasons, he will be tasting Premiership gold much like his recently retired father.

That Scottish Ferguson blood is something powerful.

I have altered the leagues in Football Manager Editor so that they will start as the 13/14 season would do in real life. I am therefore starting in League 1, following our relegation. Cardiff are in the Premiership, etc... You get the idea.
Good opening post!

Because they got relegated, did you put them in League 1?
Fantastic start. Keep it up Matt!
Great start to the story, will certainly be following and trying my best to keep up with it.
Awesome start i will be closely following this
Very informative about Peterborough, looking forward to this story

Starting Tactic

For this season I'm going to focus on Attack, Control and Counter tactics. As I'm starting off in League 1 I will be using the following as my starting tactic. I'm also going to keep the board pleased as they are expecting me to play attacking football.

Backup Tactics

This is my control tactic. I'm going to try this in matches I believe I will control possession. This worked great for me with other clubs.

This is my counter tactic. I'm going to try this against stronger clubs. I feel a strong defensive line looking to get the ball forward and attack on the break could pull me some 2-1 losses or draws against such clubs.

Transfers will be coming soon. However, with my budget of 100K I think I'll only be looking for free transfers to add to my squad depth this season.
Good variety of formations and they each have there own purpose, :)
Good start Matt. Could you link the video as to how you managed to start from the 13/14 season? Not going to do it but just interested :P
Good luck. Hope you lead Peterborough to success as personally I think they've been very unlucky in real life.

Hi Patrick. I didn't start from the 13/14 season. I simply set the leagues as if it were that season.
Good luck Matt, which cut-out of Fergie Jr. are you using? Mine or Toon's? :P Anyway, good luck with this, interesting to see you modify the leagues as if it was 2013/2014 :)
Another good update Matt, Looking forward to it progressing
