EXCLUSIVE: "Arsenal offered me the job!"

New job: AVB was offered the chance to manage Arsenal

André Villas-Boas has revealed that Arsenal FC tried to sign him after the departure of long serving Frenchman, Arsene Wenger.

In an exclusive interview with the Mirror, the Portuguese boss opens up about life at the Lane and how he believes he was the Gunners first choice to take over from the departing Wenger.

On the 3rd of July 2012, Villas-Boas was announced as the successor to Harry Redknapp, signing a three year contract with the club. In his first interview, he announced to the rest of England that his mission was to not restore his reputation, but it was a mission to put Tottenham back on track with winning titles and trophies. 3 years on, and Villas-Boas is certainly achieving what he set out to do.

It’s been up and down for me so far at Tottenham. It was disappointing to not win any trophies in the first two years, but there was always confidence in the squad that we could

In my second year we ended up coming second, which was amazing for us – our highest ever placement in the Premier League. I was handed a new contract extension, which was great as I wanted to show the players and the fans that I was committed. My next goal was to replicate the form again year after, but this time to add trophies.

Jackson Martinez (above) signed for Spurs in 2014 for £13m

The next year, we bought in some new players, one of the stand outs being Martinez. We had been tracking Martinez since his impressive first season [at Porto], and again in his second year at Porto he was phenomenal. I spoke to Baldini and Levy about a possible deal, and thankfully they managed to sort one out. I think he is currently the best striker in the league, and one of the best in the world. His record for Spurs speaks for itself. In his first season he scored 28 goals in 34 games in the league, which is an amazing record. I have every faith that he will be able to continue his scoring record heading into the new season.

We also managed to finish second again, something I am again very happy to have done, but this time it was even more special as I was able to complete the double, picking up the FA Cup and Capital One Cup. Sadly we lost out on the league by a good few points, but I’m hoping this year we can really have a push at winning it [the league.]

Roberto Martinez (above) has taken over from Arsene Wenger

Just last week, Wenger was replaced by former Everton and Wigan mananger, Roberto Martinez, Villas-Boas had some very interesting information to add to the story.

I think I was their [Arsenals] first choice. They came to me directly after the season had finished – after I had won the double – and asked me for an interview and told me they wanted me to take over.

I was surprised. I was managing their rivals, but what I had done had obviously impressed them, but I knew straight away that I was going to decline them. They asked me to attend, but I simply told them that I was the mananger of Tottenham and that was not going to change.

I love working here at Spurs, the chairman, the fans and the club is great. I don’t want to turn my back on this club. I want to stay here for as long as possible.”
Roberto Martinez! I can live with that :)
Martinez is great, hilarious that they approached you though xD
Jackson Martinez :))
Kubik I know, I'm surprised that there wasn't any other clubs looking at him!

Paddy You might not be when you see how "well" he's doing ;)

Adam LOL, my first offer from another club and it's my rivals

Neal YA WHAT KNEE'Y-ALL
Martinez is a good shout in my opinion
