Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Tom Carroll is set to leave the club, after agreeing terms with Newcastle United.

Reports claim that Tottenham and Carroll could not come to an agreement over a contract extension, resulting in the sale of the 23 year old, who is in the final year of his current contract.

Born in Watford, Carroll came through the Tottenhams academy and was held in high regard by coaching staff at Spurs, and after impressing on loan last year at Villa, several clubs had shown an interest in the young midfielder.

He is now set for a new chapter in his life, with Tottenham close to agreeing a £5m fee.

Bit of a shame. Last year, though so £5 mil is nice
