I'm Leaving, and there's Naughton you can do about it!
The Sheffield born full back arrived at Spurs in 2009.
In an exclusive interview with
The Sun, Tottenham's English full back has confirmed that he plans to depart the North London club in January.
Naughton arrived at Tottenham in 2009 with fellow right back, and friend Kyle Walker for a fee of £9m, but has found first team opportunities at Spurs hard to come by.
The Right back has confirmed that he now wants to leave the club, a month after the summer transfer window has closed.
"
I've decided I want to leave. I'm not enjoying my football and I feel like I am not getting the respect I deserve. He [Villas-Boas] has favourites, and no matter how hard I train, how well I do, I never seem to be favourite for that starting spot. At the age of 27, I want to be able to play regular first team football." Naughton said.
Naughton also went on to speak about his contract, confirming the rumours about Villas-Boas.
"
No, the rumours are true. He [Villas-Boas] came to me in training and told me he needed to see me once the session was over - I thought that he was going to tell me I would be starting more, but all he said was that he is going to give me a new contract and that If I signed it I would get more game time. But that turned out to be a lie - I only had a year left and they didn't want to lose me on a free. I obviously thought he was being true, so I agreed to sign it."
"
A year on I can see that was a mistake and I tried to speak to him this past window about a move away, but he wouldn't talk to me about it. He would just tell me to get my head down and carry on, which is why I've decided to come public."
This isn't the first time Villas-Boas has had a spat with former players. When he took over Chelsea in 2011, he had a falling out with several of Chelsea's senior players, including Club Captain, John Terry, as well as Nicolas Anelka and Frank Lampard.
He also had public slanging matches with former Tottenham players, Jermain Defoe and most recently, Danny Rose.
