Villas-Boas: I turned down Spain to stay at Spurs!

Not for me: The Portuguese wants to see out his contract at Spurs

Tottenham's head coach has revealed that the Spanish FA Approached him over the Spain job.

Spain, who were without a manager at time, had originally looked at hiring Rafa Benetinez, who has since taken over England after Roy Hodgson retired from the position after winning the European Championship.

Villas-Boas believes that to manage two teams effectively at once would be 'almost impossible' and while the idea of managing Spain was certainly a lucrative offer, he wants to see his contract out at Spurs before jumping into International management.

"It's not very often you get a call from the Spanish FA asking you to become the manager. It's a definite appeal, but I am young - I am only 38 years old. International management should be for when I am coming to the end of my managerial career. For the time being I am happy with my life in club management and with Tottenham."

"Did it enter my mind that I could manage both? Yes. But I dismissed it straight away. Managing them both [Spain and Tottenham] would be almost impossible and too complicated. If I am managing a team, whether it Tottenham or an International powerhouse, I want to be able to put my all into the club. That is something I could not do if I were split between two jobs. I hope that I can see my contract out here at Spurs. It could be tomorrow that I leave, or it could be in 10, or 20 years time. I do not know. But I know when I will be ready for International management, and at this moment in time, I am not ready."
nice update and i think you were right to turn down spain. I wonder if you saying you want to see out your contract says you will look elsewhere after?
Who the in the right mind would turn down Spain for Spurs? ;) #Loyal
Whaaaa? Rafa Benitez is the new England manager! As for AVB, a Portuguese man in command of doesn't bode well
Good who needs Spain!

Spurs capture N'Koulou on Deadline Day

Better late than never: NKoulou signed with just a few hours to spare.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Cameroonian international, Nicolas NKoulou from Barcelona for an initial fee of £14.75m, rising to £20m depending on appearances and goals scored.

The center back joined the Spanish giants, FC Barcelona from Marsielle for £14.75m. During his first, and only season in Spain, he made 53 appearances in all competitions. He collected a vast array of medals, helping Barcelona secure two UEFA Super Cups, the FIFA Club world cup, the Supercopa, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.

The purchase has put Belgium defender, Jan Vertonghen's future doubt. Spurs have been looking to offload the defender, and the purchase of NKoulou looks to be the final nail in the coffin for the center back. With just two hours left, it seems as though time has all but ran out for Spurs to sell the defender, but there is hope that they will be able to sell the Belgian in January.
2014-02-17 15:01#161741 Nick : but there is hope that they will be able to sell the Belgium in January.

You are selling the entire country? :P
Awesome Signing and I hope that he does enough
Good signing. I tried to sign him myself. 'Arry Redknapp to swoop for the "t'riffic" player that is Verts with two hours left a la Rafa Van der Vaart :P
Knee-Y'all ... Ssh, don't let anyone know I've kidnapped the royal family.

Jason Me too :D

Paddy Yeah, I noticed after I'd bought him that you'd tried to sign him - glad you failed. Would've felt like I was copying you! :P
This story just continues to get better and better. It may only be February but I am sure it will turn into a story to be considered as Story of the Year! Keep it up.

Awesome update! your story is one of the best on here if not the best atm
So Benzema FINALLY signs for Arsenal! Best deals are a flip between Halilovic to Chelsea and Ward-Prowse to Spurs. As for Modric, he's only £100,000 more expensive than Jay Spearing smh :P
You are doing better than the Villa-Boas in my save (who got fired mid-season lol). Some interesting transfers like Modric for 1.3 million and you recieving James-Prowse for such a low price since he has a great potential. I just want to see how you will do with your players and can you make Tottenham any better than they are now.
