Ireland prepare for Euro 2016
With just 26 days left until the start of the 2016 European Finals in France, The FAI (Football Association Ireland) have announced 3 preparation friendlies.
Ireland first trip is away in Africa to
Algeria. Many may question the relevance of playing an African team to prepare to face European outfits. The FAI's thinking behind this is to get the team prepared for very warm temperatures. It's expected to be a very warm summer in France this year and is something that Ireland will have to get used to very quick.
The final two friendlies are both home affairs against
Poland and
Croatia. Both the Polish and Croatians have qualified for the tournament, and are obviously in different groups. Ireland will surely remember the 5-1 thumping given to them earlier in the year by Croatia, Dean Byrne's first defeat as Ireland manager.
The Irish fans will be hoping for a summer to remember, and will not want a repeat of what happened in Euro 2012, where they did not manage a single point in the finals. Although they understand what a tough group Ireland have been placed in, they still are slightly optimistic that the Boys in Green can qualify.
Ireland will face Greece in their opening game, before facing the darkhorses of the tournament Belgium, and finally finishing with World Champions Spain.
