Birmingham's defeat at the hands of Forest was a moment Stuart McCall will want to soon forget as he saw his side put to the sword at the hands of his former club.
Explosive striker Colin Kyle got Forest off to a flyer by scoring a placed shot on 7 minutes. Centre-back Morgan Thomas doubled Nottingham Forest's lead with a close range header on 11 minutes.
Piter then scored a header in the 20th minute to extend the lead further. Experienced midfielder Jed Wallace pulled one back for Birmingham City after 52 minutes with an incisive finish from 15 yards.
Piter added his 2nd goal of the game with a finish executed with aplomb on 69th minutes. Winger Kieron Wright pulled one back for Birmingham City after 70 minutes with a tide finish from 19 yards.
I am very pleased to be going into the Semi Finals of the Capital One Cup and will hopefully be able to lead the boys to wembley. Said Captain Luke Shaw.
Capital One Cup and Champions League Draw
I was hoping for Derby but in actual fact we have got Man Utd who we have found out how to beat. I wanted to avoid Chelsea and I did.
The stand out match is the Champions from last season OM against Barcelona. Barca are top and OM are doing well again. Lyon play Arsenal in France and we have drew Athletic which looks good again. Juventus and Real Madrid play each other too it is going to be a good first knockout round.
Derby featured a number of exceptionally quick players but were unable to use them to full effect on a wet and windy afternoon at The City Ground.
Striker Gabriele Ghedin got Forest off to a flying start with a well struck effort on the 4th minute. The look in his face was one of relief as he had gone 7 matches without scoring. It was a sensational effort for Ghedin and will surely be one of the contenders for goal of the month and maybe even goal of the season. Striker Piter doubled Forest's lead with a close range finish which was timed impeccably on the 10th minute. With Derby staring at defeat, there was a controversial incident when striker Aniello Castellano was bought down by John Keegan but the referee gave nothing and it looked harsh on County. Then an error from Derby's Denis Perna allowed Keegan to score a well timed close range finish. Midfielder Nirvana then delighted the home fans even more by making it 4-0 on 56 minutes.
Striker Luis Vidal pulled one back for Derby but it was not enough and Forest ran out comfortable winners.
That has moved us upto second place in the McDonald's Premier League, just three points behind the leaders Manchester City said Keegan.
It has been a busy month so far though so I will update my diary at the end of the month.
We had 9 matches this month! You have all seen a couple of the updates from certain matches so I will leave them out.
We new this month was going to be huge because we had PSG in the Champions League and Birmingham in the Capital One Cup but to me it was the Premier League that I was determined to be focused on. Obviously we needed to progress in the cups but I feel this is our best year yet to throw the challenge down for the title and I was right.
Firstly I told Jamie Nightingale he was to have a rest for 2 matches, he did not like that at all but he took it very professionally and sat them out so we played Chelsea with Hatib Kinteh on the right and he set both goals up as we went 2-0 up early thought Guido Vadala and Piter.
I am personally very pleased for Vadala because he had a rocky time last season but this season rotating with experianced Englishman Ross Barkley he has started to bang in the goals from Attacking midfield. Chelsea however are up the top of the Premier League too so when they clawed it back to 2-2, I declared myself extremely satisfied with the result.
We then came up against a Blackburn side that had been hopeless in the last 5 matches and that did not change here. Adam Williams, who replaced Gabriele Ghedin because of the fixture pile up grabbed himself a brace and Vadala scored again too. Williams first goal was a joy to behold, when he scored a 25 yard free kick.
We then dropped 3 points when Manchester city, the other team in red hot form grabbed a narrow 2-1 victory although Colin Kyle hit a fantastic solo effort it was not enough.
We then got a good solid draw with Southampton when Piter and Williams got a goal each for to save a draw but I actually see this as a point gained rather than a two points dropped. Southampton were absolutely fantastic too. We played well and had a good chance to win it but then so did Southampton. It is always emotional to come back here because I was bought up here really and I am glad the fans still remember that I gave a lot to them. said Luke Shaw. Shaw Speaks Out after Southampton Match
West Brom were next against us but they did not provide much competition for us either. Barkley scored on the 8th minute and then Thomas scored just before half time. We were really impressive and even with them scoring early in the second half. It was totally against the run of play. Thomas then scored a second goal to make it 3-1 and then Adam Williams made it 4-1 and gave us a big, big result here.
We then played Liverpool the match after the Derby victory and Ross Barkley turned back the years with a performance of the highest in quality. He had given us the lead in the 3rd minute and then slotted home a free kick in the 13th minute to put us in control. Colin Kyle then made it 3-1 on the 17th minute and that was game over.
McDonald's Premier League Table
Fulham and West Brom have slipped down the table. We are top but there are some teams still to play so we will probably end up in third. Manchester United are having a shocker and Reading are proving there now a top half team by always being around 8th.
Player Of The Month
Ross Barkley
Veteran midfielder Ross Barkley gets it this month as he has been amazing in the matches he has played in. It is so important he keeps this up because we need him.
Upcoming Fixtures
We have some big fixtures coming up and my squad will get rotated because we are fighting on every front at the moment. Manchester United in the Capital One Cup stands out because we need to get to Wembley. My players deserve it. I will make wholesale changes for the F.A. Cup to make sure my squad is fit for the important matches.
That is a lot if games you just played and you have a lot scheduled for next month. Good results, hope you can keep top spot till the end (That means City, Arsenal and Chelsea have to keep losing.) I'm sure you'll do it. I believe in Kev.
There are 4 players who have made the World Team Of The Year in the starting line up from England. First to mention is the World Player Of The Year James Ward Prowse. He easily won the voting with Man Utd midfielder Will Hughes in third place also making the team.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also got into the starting line up and currently plays for Barcelona but the biggest shock was the Keeper is a Forest Keeper! Brenton Daley, who was the World Cup winning Goalkeeper has made the cut too. Davide Valli, who scored 36 goals in the last year obviously gets in and Paulo Nunes who plays for Sociedad scored 23 times and also the shock inclusion too. Ward-Prowse has made the World XI and also won the World Player Of The Year
On the bench is two more veteran English players in Stuttgarts Saido Berahino and Phil Jones make the cut.
