VIETTO’S WORLD CUP HEARTACHE
Juventus striker Luciano Vietto will miss the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil after Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella overlooked him in the 23 man squad.
Vietto was expected to make the Argentina squad after emerging as one of Juventus’ key players en route to Serie A success.
The 20 year old scored quickly became a first team player for Juventus, scoring 27 goals in 33 games but despite topping the Serie A goalscorer’s list, Vietto wasn’t in Sabella’s plans.
Conte has expressed his shock at the exclusion of Vietto, with his only caps coming and Under 20 level.
“It’s difficult to understand why Vietto isn’t on the plane to Brazil but one must think it is a tactical choice from Sabella as opposed to a fault on Vietto’s play.
“Vietto has been excellent this season and what he’s done at a young age is worthy of being called up for any nation in the world.”
Conte has also shared a few words of wisdom for Vietto, stressing that the opportunities to represent his national team will soon come.
“Vietto is still very young, it’s important to remember that. With time, I believe he’ll not only establish himself as one of the best Argentinian strikers, but also as one of the best in the world.
“He has incredible potential as we’ve seen so I’m sure the opportunities for him will soon come along in the future.”
One man that will be on his way to Brazil is Juventus misfit, Carlos Tevez. However, Conte has refused to comment once again on the situation surrounding the 30 year old.
