SPORTING TRACK ROMANIAN STARLET

Sporting Lisbon could be prepared to enter the race to sign highly rated Gabriel Iancu from Steaua Bucharest.

The Lisbon giants are thought to be very keen on signing the £5 million rated playmaker but also have the interest of Tottenham Hotspur and Frieburg as company.

Victor Becali, the same agent who oversaw Vlad Chiricheș’ move to Tottenham in 2013, has indicated a number of clubs are interested in one of Steaua's stand out talents in 20-year-old Iancu, including Diego Maradona's side.

“With Romanian football progressing again, it’s only natural that teams monitor these young stars. Many clubs monitor Steaua players and Iancu is no different.

With clubs enquiring, Becali insists Steaua’s board will decide on the future of Iancu promptly, but the preference of first team football could see Iancu snub a move to North London and move elsewhere.

Iancu has been a mainstay in Steaua’s side this season, scoring six goals in 26 games, including a brace versus Newcastle United in the UEFA Europa League.
Back off Spurs. He'd be a great signing for sure :)

GABRIEL SIGNS FOR SPORTING

Sporting Lisbon has completed the signing of Botafogo’s defensive midfielder Gabriel for £2.8 million.

Gabriel joins Sporting after falling out with his manager Oswaldo de Oliveira and ending up on the transfer list.

The midfielder agrees a three year deal with the Lisbon giants on £13,000 a week and will be likely to provide cover for William Carvalho as a holding midfielder.

The signing of Gabriel is said to be a popular one among the ‘Sportinguistas’ after the Brazilian snubbed bitter rivals Benfica to represent Sporting.

Gabriel was almost joined by his teammate and highly rated attacking midfielder Lucas Evangelista, but Sporting couldn’t agree a fee with the club from Rio de Janeiro.
good signing and i see your making use of the brazilian players allowed to move to portugal
Nice signing, unlucky you couldn't get Lucas Evangelista as well though, he would have been awesome!
Looks like a great signing, if he gets enough game time he'll be fantastic

ELIAS LEADS SPORTING EXODUS

Sporting midfielder Elias headlines a list of seven players on their way out of Lisbon upon the arrival of new manager Diego Maradona.

The Brazilian international has been longing for a move away from Sporting and now moves to Internacional for £4.1 million.

Also on his way out is former La Masia product Jeffren Suarez, who returns to Spanish territory after Espanyol agreed a £675,000 deal for the winger.

The 27-year-old appeared just 16 times since the beginning of last season in an injury ravaged period in Portugal.

The one time promising midfielder Zakaria Labyad signs for Greek Super League champions Olympiakos for £475,000.

The Moroccan international joined for free from PSV Eindhoven back in 2012 but failed to make an impact with ‘Os Leões’, agreeing a three year deal with the Athens club.

Sporting flop Guilherme finally departs to Mexican side Monarcas Morelia for a transfer fee of £875,000.

The ex-Atletico Mineiro striker played a total of 27 appearances for Sporting after joining for £1.2 million just over a year ago, failing to score a single goal for the club.

The Brazilian forward will be given 10% of the transfer fee, a clause placed into his contract when he signed that quantifies to £87,500.

Paraguayan full back Ivan Piris heads back to Serie A after representing Roma before his move to Portugal.

Piris will join Serie A side Torino for £450,000 but Sporting will only receive 10% of the transfer fee due to the 90% ownership of a third party company.

Sporting also agreed to loan out their Argentine striker Valentin Viola, with the former Racing Club man joining Argentinian giants River Plate until the end of the season.

The final player heading out will be former Cercle Brugge loanee Renato Neto, albeit at the end of the season, after Sporting agreed to release the Brazilian midfielder in June.
noceeee update and some good business there
£4.1M is not bad for Elias, but you sold Labyad :(
Again, I'm a bit late, but Sporting Lisbon will make for a good story. Nice signing and great update too.

SPORTING COMPLETE IANCU DEAL

Sporting Lisbon has completed the signing of Romanian sensation Gabriel Iancu from Steaua Bucharest for £6.5 million.

Sporting beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Iancu, with the 20-year-old preferring first team football as opposed to a rotational role in the Barclays Premier League.

Widely renowned for his close ball control and creativity, Iancu may be the centre of a tactical switch up at Sporting, with Maradona historically preferring to play an advanced playmaker ahead of two pivots in midfield.

The attacking midfielder signs a four year deal with Sporting on £28,000 a week and becomes Maradona’s second signing of the transfer window.

The Romanian international does, however, have a release clause of £26 million, a contractual detail also thought to be crucial in preventing a reunion with his former teammate, Tottenham’s Vlad Chiricheș

Sporting’s Player of the Month

Gabriel Barbosa

Gabriel Barbosa has been great since my arrival, scoring five goals in three games. He’s been on loan for a year now from Barcelona and I’m surprised Sporting haven’t made the most of his talents. He’ll be key for us this season and should I not win the league, I’m making him our number one target next season.

Maradona’s Verdict

Well, well, well! 7-0 win in my first game is not a bad way to introduce myself, is it? The players seem to be buzzing to see me arrive at Sporting and things now look a lot more positive after three games with results going our way. We have gone up to third and are miraculously just three points off top spot. Next month will be key for us as we play both Benfica and Porto.
