Carlos Calado Retires

Carlos Calado:
"It's been an honour to play for the club, and play with these set of boys - but I think it is time. Time to call it a a day, hang up my boots. I started my career at this club and finished it here, I don't think I could've asked for anything more.

I've had a long playing career, quite a successful one. I've travelled all of Portugal to play for many clubs but only one really remains in my heart and that is Oriental.

All I can say is - I'm truly honoured to have been apart of such a special club. In these last few years the gaffer, Vitor Martins, is doing brilliant things. He is taking this club to new heights and fulfilling it's potential.

He's made sure I can go home and look back on my career and say, "I've won a title before". That season was a success to everyone and the club as a whole worked so so hard.

The next season, after the promotion, my playing time was limited. And to be fair, it was only right. There were younger, more enthusiastic players vying for a first team role and I'd amassed a lot of games in my career, so I wasn't too upset about it.

But only a week ago, with my contract expiring, Vitor came to me and informed me my contract would not be extended. I felt the time was right and it is why I am here now with deep regret, calling it time on my career.

My best wishes go out to the rest of the club, one day - they'll be in the Primeira Liga, watch this space."
Great story Walter, finally caught up!

Griffo & Jack Thank you two, hopefully you enjoy what's to come :)

Preseason 2015-16

Preseason Results

This preaseason was a success, overall. I felt the team really started to gel from the off and they showed signs of some quality football being played. We got off to a fantastic start in odd fashion over SLB B.

You wouldn't have known it was friendly, however, as our opponents had two men seeing red, and two penalties - both converted by captain Hugo Grilo. I was surprised at how efficient we were in attack.

We then hosted another Lisbon giant, this time Sporting's B Team. The team that was relegated from the Liga Revoluçao last season put up a tough test and we came away with a narrow win.

The team then travelled to Caldas for our third friendly of preseason. It's obvious we need to improve fitness before the season begins because we were slow and tired in this game, and it's a contest we really should've won.

The last game was one against affiliate CD Aves. After surprisingly taking the lead against our parent club, we just dropped off. We allowed an equaliser just before half time - giving them the opportunity to start over in the second half. I was pretty disappointed, but it's only preseason.

Player of Preseason

Despite not scoring a goal, or being credited with much from the match reporters over the course of our preseason, Nigerian Cedric Omoigui gets my nod as the Player of Preseason. He really used that 20 Teamwork Attribute in laying on three assists in 4 games with an average rating of 7.10.

League Cup Draw

It's a relatively tough group we've been handed. Rio Ave are more or less Primeira Liga quality and so a result may be tough to come by here. Chaves were a side up and about the promotion spots last season and we were narrowly edged by them last season. The other two teams are Leixões, a mid table outfit who can be beaten. The last team is Trofense, who ended the previous league season with six consecutive defeats, will still be tough opposition, but if we play our best I can see us grabbing three points.

That is it for this time around. Next month is all about the League Cup and how we fared. Prior to that the league season will begin!
It's good to be playing decent teams before the season begins to get a feel for the league this year. Cracking update as usual Walter :)
Good results over the big B teams, unlucky against Caldas and Aves
Two red cards in the pre-season... haha wow!
2014-06-12 21:12#179779 Walter : Pauker Aww, I accept your apology >:)

Uhh.. what apology?
Jack Yeah that's the plan, thanks Jack.

Zapdos Thanks Zap

Griffo Yeah that's what I thought xD

Pauker Remember the small price you had to pay.

League Cup: No Luck

Oriental Lisbon were highly unlucky throughout their League Cup campaign

League Cup Results

As mentioned in the caption and title above, we were terribly unlucky - maybe a little disappointing over the course of these last four games. We started off the premature campaign in style, overcoming Trofense by a clear two goal margin.

We then made the long journey to the very north of Portugal to face Chaves. With this match being televised, we had extra incentive to put on a good performance. The game was very even, as we twice took the lead only to be pegged back both times. It was courtesy of some horrific defending inside the box which allowed our opponents to score a 93rd minute winner, taking home the three points.

Our next clash was at home to Leixões, who we famously beat in the Taça de Portugal two seasons ago. Again, we came away on top in a close encounter. Overall, I was just glad to get the three points. The month ended on a sour note, being knocked out by stiff competition in Rio Ave. It was a tough defeat to take but I could have no complaints against a team of that ability.

The League Cup Table

AS you can see we went out of the League Cup very narrowly, only on goal difference. In addition, if we hadn't of conceded that sloppy late winner to Chaves, then we would've gone through. Still, we're out and we can't change that. Now it's up to us to get it right for the league season and make a strong push for a top half finish.

It's now onto the league season, however, and we've been given a fairly good start to the league. We face Braga B up first, before hosting Oliveirense. Only a matter of days later we are hosted ourselves by promotion front runners Beira-Mar. Next, we face up to Portimonense and then the month finished at Tondela. If we can get 7 points from this month I will consider it a success!
Hope my boys at Braga B do the job ;) Only joking, unlucky in the League Cup, especially coming up against Rio Ave which were the strongest team in my opinion. :)
