Season Two Review
It was yet another magical season in Oriental's fairytale rise. Let's cap off the season by reviewing the footballing year in Portugal, and the rest of the world. First, we'll go and review our own season and the unlikely quest for promotion we were set upon.
Oriental Preseason 2014-15
A short preseason but a good one. I was impressed with our sharpness so early on in the season. Two wins and a loss against a team much larger than us is really positive and had a good effect on the boys.
League Cup 2014-15
The League Cup was our, 'getting familiar with the league' cup. We were largely outplayed in the majority of our games but the one highlight was the win over arch rivals
Atlético CP, something the fans will savour for a while now. All in all, it was a disappointing League Cup campaign but I think this was before our team had fully gelled.
Oriental Second League 2014-15
This season in the Second League, or Liga Revoluçao, exceeded
everyone's expectations. The media, our fans and fans of other clubs expected us to be the easy-beats and to go straight back down. Well, we proved them all wrong. We were easily the best of the three promoted teams and after this performance, we know we can go one better next season!
Taça de Portugal 2014-15
Again, we reached the
5th Round of the Taça de Portugal, but this time around there was nothing really special about it as we were prematurely knocked out by Feirense. We had an easy run and another cup run against the odds would've been nice but I'm not too fussed about it.
Primeira Liga
Winners: Sporting CP
A somewhat fallen giant of before, Sporting CP are now back in the lime light after racing to the Primeira League crown in style. Manager Leonardo Jardim has had praise heaped on him by fans of the club after a few barren years.
Taça de Portugal
Winners: Sporting CP
Leonardo Jardim's side completed a historic double and the Portuguese manager firmly etched his name into Sporting folklore with a close fought battle over fierce rivals FC Porto. Rui Patricio and Adrien helped them on their way to glory.
League Cup
Winners: FC Porto
Paulo Fonseca's side grabbed another piece of silverware under the ex-Paços de Ferreira manager's reign at the Portuguese powerhouse. They were up against arch nemsis Benfica, and narrowly edged their rivals 1-0 to seal the deal.
Supertaça
Winners: FC Porto
Porto's first trophy for the 2014-15 season came in the same fashion as the League Cup, except this time they beat Benfica by a two-goal margin. Unforunately for the men in blue and white, this could not kick start another trophy-laden season.
Rest of the World
Atlético Madrid gave the neutrals something to cheer about as they raced to the La Liga title fending off stiff competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid. They finished a full six points clear.
Meanwhile in Italy,
A.C Milan have had a resurgence similar to that of Sporting CP over here. They stormed to the title emphatically, upsetting odds on favourite Juventus and other challengers like Roma.
Manchester City have been the kings of England recently, as they have taken the last two titles in England and Manuel Pellegrini's men look like a force to be reckoned with.
A Year To Remember
I hope you guys liked this season review. It took a while and hopefully it was worth the wait. The world of football in this save is constantly evolving and we want to be part of it. Next season will be tough but I think it may be our year!
