January- Chasing

Despite an excellent month, we dropped further behind the marauding Jets

It was a case of not-quite-good-enough this month, as we dropped just 2 points but they were enough to drop 2 points further down the table. Here's a look at the month that was.

Results

Our first game of the new year was the massive Sydney Derby, against Wanderers FC. Josh MacDonald opened the scoring with a real poachers effort after just 17 minutes and Rhyan Grant continued his incredible form with another goal 18 minutes later. Golgol Mebrahtu managed to equalise just before half time, but the Wanderers conceded a penalty in the 50th minute. Ander Bergara was never going to miss, and Heskey scored when I brought him on to give us a resounding 4-1 win.

Next up we hosted Perth Glory, and he showed our authority early through a Jurman goal, courtesy of Ander Bergara's corner. Bergara himself scored a magnificent brace in the 55th and 58th minute before Nikola Petkovic sealed the deal in the 80th. 4 goals once more, this time a 4-0 win.

A much harder opponent in Wellington Phoenix was next, and it was a real tussle for most of the night. Eventually a cracking long shot by Milos Dimitrijevic put us ahead after half time, and in injury time Manny Muscat had the misfortune of scoring an own goal to give us a 2-0 win.

The final game of the month was at the sold out Hindmarsh Stadium against Adelaide United. Neither side could score until Jonathan McKain scored from a corner in the 68th minute. Luckily Joel Chianese equalised just 6 minutes later and saved the point. A 1-1 draw.

League Table

Despite a terrific month, the Jets have furthered their lead by winning all 4 games. Now, with just 10 games to go, we need to start winning almost every week to have a crack at the title.

Ander Bergara had a great month, dominating from set pieces and teaming up well with either Josh MacDonald or Emile Heskey. It's a shame he gets injured so much!
Decent month unlucky for the 1-1 draw thugh
Fantastic month, keep it coming!
Bashy Yeah it was :/

Justice Thanks, I hopefully will :D

Bergara Living Up To Predecessor

http://s40.photobucket.com/user/fzemdegs/media/Untitled_zpse551d628.png.html

The retirement of Alessandro Del Piero was a bitter blow to Sydney FC, and many questioned whether or not the Sky Blues could replace the fan favourite. Technical geniuses are hard to come by in the A-League but Sean-Paul Lodovico appears to have found his man in Spaniard Ander Bergara.

Bergara has filled Del Piero's boots as the set piece master, with the 29 year old becoming an intimidating figure for goalkeepers across the leagues. With multiple assists from corners and free kicks and 2 penalty kicks, Bergara has been in profilic form from dead ball situations since returning from injury. With 10 games to go, the incredible form of their Marquee man will go a long way in Sydney FC's title hopes.

Lodovico Pens New Deal

http://s40.photobucket.com/user/fzemdegs/media/Untitled_zps9fcaa23e.png.html

In an insecure job market, Sean-Paul Lodovico will be celebrating today after signing a 2 year deal with Sydney FC. The 29 year old had just 4 months to run on his existing contract and the side's incredible run of form has secured him a new deal.

The Sky Blues are currently sitting in 2nd position on the table, and are pushing Newcastle Jets for the title. The form of players such as Ander Bergara, Rhyan Grant and Sebastian Usai has surely given the board confidence and they will hope that the side can defeat Adelaide to round off a perfect January.
Congrats on the new deal, now the hard work starts!
Woohoo new deal! Now the work begins in earnest ;)
Justice Yeah, it's gonna be a tight race!

Neal Haha yeah :D

Frame Lives Dream, Signs With PSV

Peter Frame, watched by his friends and family, lived out the dream of many young Australian football players when he signed a contract with Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven. The 16 year old will join his new teammates on January 1st 2018 after Sydney FC agreed on a £825,000 deal for the left back.

Sean-Paul Lodovico spoke to reporters after the deal was made this morning.

Lodovico:
This is quite a special feeling for both Peter and myself. It filled me with a great sense of pride when I accepted the deal for Pete- it's granting someone their dream. To be honest, I think it would benefit me more to keep him, but I will never- never- deny a young Aussie kid the chance to play in Europe. It is simply the dream for these lads, and I'm not gonna deny it.
As he's only 16, Peter can't leave the club just yet, but for the next 11 months I'll be damned if I can't prepare him for the road ahead. My biggest congratulations to you, Pete, and good luck on the road ahead.

Peter Frame joins Harry Kewell, Lucas Neill and Tim Cahill, 3 of the greats, in the list of young Aussies who have left for Europe at a very tender age. Frame will hope to leave the same legacy as his predecessors.
Sentimental sale smh
Walter I can't help it :P
