After a thrilling 7 months of action, the A-League has ended for the 2016/17 season. It's time to reflect on a great season, and celebrate the achievements of the league's best.
An incredible chase by Sydney FC saw the Sky Blues overtake the Jets and win the league by a comfortable 7 points. Meanwhile Brisbane Roar continued to struggle and the Mariners slipped to an unexpected 7th.
In the first week, Melbourne and Wellington won predictably and all the drama was in the semi finals instead. Sydney FC toppled the Victory after a dramatic late goal burst from Melbourne, whilst it took Wellington the drama of penalties to take down the Jets. The Grand Final was somewhat of an anti-climax, with Phoenix demolishing Sydney in a shock 3-0 win.
After a heated title race with the Jets, Sydney FC came out on top winning the league by 7 points. Breakout seasons by players like Joel Chianese, Sebastian Usai and Rhyan Grant went a long way in securing the title for the Sky Blues.
The only New Zealand team in the A-League finished 3rd in the regular season, but a heated penalty win over the Jets and a thumping Grand Final victory saw them win the championship for the first time in their history.
The right winger was a creative force for the Jets, scoring and assisting on a weekly basis to take home the Johnny Warren Medal over Rhyan Grant.
Once just a fringe player, Gibbs teamed up extremely well with Adam Taggart and had a beautiful season, scoring a league high 16 goals.
The young poacher from Sydney FC replaced Emile Heskey this season, no mean feat, and did a wonderful job scoring 4 goals and assisting 7 in 17 appearances to easily win the award.
One of the best keepers in the nation, Coe had another great year conceding just 23 goals in 21 games and helping the Victory to another semi final appearance.
The dominant force in Australian football this season were Sydney FC, and much of the success must be attributed to manager Sean-Paul Lodovico. The 29 year old had a great transfer period and shaped the squad that would go on to win the league.
Title winners Sydney FC dominated the Team Of The Season, with 5 players including 3 defenders. The profilic partnership of Andrew Hoole and Adam Taggart also made the team.
The 11th instalment of the Hyundai A-League is over, and the teams will now look to improve their squad for next season and set themselves up for a potential title win. Can the Sky Blues win back-to-back, and can they also make it count in the finals? Or will the Jets come back for more? Find out in the 2017/18 season of the Hyundai A-League.

Another season has ended, and another awards update is here
We had a terrific season, winning the league and despite a 3-0 loss in the Grand Final I feel it was a hugely successful season for the club. Now we can look back and celebrate the best of the best. Here's the list of awards.
Fan's Player Of The Year
Fan's Best Eleven
Signing Of The Year
Golden Raspberry Discontinued
Golden Boot
Rising Star Award
Development Award Discontinued
Bronze Award
Emile Heskey Award (Player Of The Year Runner-Up)
Golden Award (Manager's Player Of The Year)
Grant made a transition from central midfield to right wing back and excelled, almost winning the Johnny Warren Medal. His tireless workrate has really impressed the fans and they've given him Player Of The Year.
Absolutely spot on from the fans this year, this was definitely my best team over the season. Had he not been injured so often, Ander Bergara would have made the team but Joel Chianese had an excellent season in his absence.
Was certainly a tough choice, considering the form of Dani De Silva, Ander Bergara and Jack Batten, but Sebastian Usai put in a full season of extraordinary goalkeeping and really helped me feel confident in my defence. A bargain for an underrated keeper.
With the injury troubles of Ander Bergara, Joel Chianese stepped up and had a great season, topping our goal charts with 10. We saw a wide spread of goalscorers, but Chianese found the net 4 times more than second best Bergara.
The young pair shared the award, with Josh MacDonald having a great season as the poacher whilst De Silva was a constant in central midfield. MacDonald (21) and De Silva (20) have already showed their ability at such a young age and both will be regulars for years to come.
The heartbeat of the squad, Milos Dimitrijevic had a magnificent season, scoring 4 goals and assisting 8 whilst running the show from central midfield. The box-to-box midfielder will be entering his 5th season at the club, and we're glad to have had him.
After Janjetovic was our worst player last season, Usai did a fine job replacing him. Janjetovic saw just 2 game of action as the underrated Aussie stole the show as our number 1 goalie. Sebastian Usai conceded just 22 goals in 27 games, a league best, and his 13 clean sheets were also a league high. Incredible season from Usai, now a true member of the squad.
Terrific breakout season from club stalwart Rhyan Grant, as the 26 year old made the seamless move from midfield to wing back and from there dominated. 4 goals and 9 assists was a brilliant effort, and he's still got plenty of football in him. Great work Rhyan!!
And thus concludes a great season for both the club and myself. I have finally won something! But can I do it again? Find out in the next season of Doing It Down Under v2.0.

2 of the A-League's most revered players have retired today, with Sydney FC legends Emile Heskey and Sasa Ognenovski hanging up the boots. The pair may not have had the fairytale ending they were hoping for with the 3-0 Grand Final loss, but the league title in their last seasons is definitely a great way to go.
Emile Heskey began his career in England, scoring over 100 goals in his Premier League career. After some disappointing seasons, he moved to Australia to finish his career. After 3 mildly successful seasons, he had an incredible year at Sydney FC winning the club best and fairest before finishing his career on a high with the league title in his last season.
Sasa Ognenovski had a long grounding in the Victorian Premier League, before hitting his break with Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United. His form in the A-League saw him move to South Korea and Qatar with great success. The lure of home saw him move to Sydney FC, and over 4 seasons he has been a stalwart of the side.
Ognenovski has announced his intentions to take some time off from the game to spend it with his family, whilst Emile Heskey will remain at a club as a non-playing coach.

Sad to see these club legends go. But they did heaps for you, hopefully you can find replacements up to it
NOOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOOOooooo!
Ok ok, we can cope with this, just sign Hesky as a coach and everything will be ok... yeah thats it, it'll all be ok... yeah, ok....
*sits in the corner and rocks back and forth*
