Dunlop Plays Down Chelsea Rumours

Wolfsburg manager Alexander Dunlop has played down rumours of a potential Chelsea move after manager Jose Mourinho announced today that he is resigning.

This is what he had to say at his press conference.
"It hurts me to announce, that I am resigning as the Manager of the Chelsea Football Club. I have loved this club since I first arrived, but over the past months I have been thinking about all that I have won and the success I have enjoyed, that it was now time to hand it over to someone else. But, I am not done here, next I will not be seeking a role as manager, but as an assistant. I wish to be able to share my knowledge and ideas with someone else, someone who is young in their knowledge of the role of manager and has the potential to be great, I shall announce my decision in the coming days. Thank you all and I wish everyone luck in the future"

Mourinho, 51, is one of the most decorated and respected managers in history. Having started as an assistant manager in Portugal, he quickly rose to be assistant at top teams such as Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto and Barcelona, before getting the managerial role at Benfica in Portugal. He has won the champions league twice, with Inter Milan and FC Porto.

He became manager of Chelsea in 2004 and before he left in 2007, he had won the Premier League Twice and the FA Cup once. By many Chelsea fans he is known as the "Chosen One", and in 2013 he returned to Stamford Bridge. He has not lived up to his past days however, finishing 6th last year.

His Chelsea team featuring the likes of, Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Paul Pogba and Cesc Fabregas are currently sitting in 2nd at the moment.

The past few hours have been crazy in England, as candidates are looked at by Abramovich. But the person that Chelsea are rumoured to want most, is Alexander Dunlop.

Dunlop has been the manager of Wolfsburg since the start of last season, since being appointed manager he has guided his team to a 3rd place finish last year along with a EUROPA League victory, a UEFA super cup win and his side are currently sitting on top of the Bundesliga.

Dunlop has replied to the press.
"It is really great to be linked with a role such as Chelsea, I met Abramovich when played with United, and he struck me as a great businessman and man to work with, but my career with Wolfsburg is young, and I have already started my plans at the club and they are really starting to show off on the pitch. But if they do approach me with an official deal I will very much consider it."

October Review

Bayern Munich VS Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Knoche, Miranda, Träsch, Arteta, Gustavo (c), De Bruyne, Henriquez, Depay, Jovetic

Subs Naldo -> Miranda (64) Henriquez -> Jovetic (82)

1-1
Depay (12)
Ricardo Rodriguez

Dunlop's Notes
A good draw at the Emirates against Munich. I felt that we did have a chance to win this game, we were leading for a bit but Bayern were just too good. But this is our first time that I have picked up points against the reigning champions.

Mainz VS Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Naldo (c), Blind, Miranda, Träsch, Gustavo, Khedira, De Bruyne, Depay, Jovetic

Subs Ginter -> Gustavo (71) Lacazette -> Depay (72) Henriquez -> De Bruyne (72)

2-0
Naldo (6), Miranda (59)
Christian Träsch

Dunlop's Notes
Another solid Bundesliga win, keeping us atop of the table for the moment. A good performance from our defenders in particular who picked up goals, and Träsch getting man of the match.

Atletico Madrid VS Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Knoche, Miranda, Träsch, Blind, Gustavo (c), De Bruyne, Henriquez, Lacazette, Jovetic

SubsDepay -> Jovetic (61) Khedira -> Blind (67)

2-0
Lacazette (12), Rodriguez (49)
Ricardo Rodriguez

Miranda is more used to wearing the Atletico shirt then playing against it

Dunlop's Notes
An important win against the Spanish here, we needed this if we wanted to have any chances of qualification, and we did. Great goals and team play. We just absolutely dominated them. Even better that it was away from home as well.

Wolfsburg VS Dusseldorf

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Ginter, Miranda, Träsch (c), Arteta, Khedira, Jovetic, Depay, Lacazette, Henriquez

SubsDe Bruyne -> Henriquez (61) Blind -> Miranda (61)

2-1
Depay (7), Lacazette (16)
Alexandre Lacazette

Dunlop's Notes
We keep going strong, a good start, disappointing second half, but we won anyway. Still ahead of Bayern and Dortmund, but we need to keep winning to stay ahead of them.

The Captain was in terrific form this month, scoring against Mainz and being crucial at the back to keeping the teams undefeated run going. He has been a great leader and the team will be hoping he can keep fighting and keep Wolfsburg at the top.
Good to see quality performances from Ricardo Rodriguez

Jovetic Out for Month With Training Injury

Jovetic has had his poor start with Wolfsburg now made worse, as he has picked up a knock in training that will keep him out of action for up to a month.

When playing an intra-squad match during training, a slight knock from teammate Depay, which was thought to be nothing at first, turned out to be a slight tear in a muscle in his back.

Dunlop is annoyed that no one picked up on it at first, letting him to continue to play only made it worse. Fortunately for Dunlop however, he has more options, as this now allows him to play his favoured front three of Depay, Lacazette and Henriquez up front again.

Depay has expressed his apologies to Jovetic and wishes him the speediest of recoveries.

Jovetic joined Wolfsburg on loan from Manchester City on deadline day this year.
Jovetic is just so damn injury prone, unfortunately. Hopefully he'll have a much better impact when he returns :/
Great month! What a result against Atleti!
I may have cursed him...

Dunlop Talks Player Development - Wolfsburg's Future

Key -
Italics = Reporter
Bold = Dunlop
So Alexander, Welcome back. Another great month for your club.

Thanks for having me, and yes it was another terrific month for Wolfsburg, as we kept the streak alive, and we hope to keep playing like this

So your club has made a terrific start to the season, and people are saying that this has plenty to do with the development of your players to the tactics and roles that they play. What do you think about this?

I think that the way the players have developed since my first day in the office has been incredible, the likes of De Bruyne and Knoche have been particular standouts, and yes it is also crucial that every single player knows exactly what role they have to play and how to play it. No team can work well without it.

Now you said players like De Bruyne and Knoche had impressed. What about their development makes them stand-out?

They always put everything into every training session, meaning that they can get the best development possible. De Bruyne is a very special young man, he possesses an incredible ability, and he is now starting to show that on the pitch.

Who do you see as your bright light for the future?

It easily has to be Martin (Ødegaard) and Bastian (Dorow), they both develop so well and both have the potential to really be something. Martin is really special, no one else at his age has got talent anything like his and the fact that he has developed so well already is really just showing how good he is.

Sorry, but I really have to go, apparently something is going up down at the club and I need to be there to meet with the board

Sure thing, you should get going - thanks for talking

Jose Mourinho makes Shock German Assistant Manager Move

After much speculation over where his career will be heading, Jose Mourinho has announced to the press that he will be joining German club Wolfsburg as an assistant manager.

"I have today decided that I will be accepting an offer to be the Assistant Manager at Wolfsburg football club, I have been watching very closely how Dunlop has approached the management of the club, and I am very pleased; I aim to help him even more, and to develop Wolfsburg into one of the better clubs in the world. I will be taking this post immediately.

The fans and players at Wolfsburg are all delighted to have someone like Jose in the backroom, and no doubt will Dunlop be looking forward to it as well. Dunlop can not be here however as he is at a meeting.

Jose was very emotional after his last game, a 1-0 win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge

A Second Chance for Van Gaal?

Now that Mourinho has left Stamford Bridge, a job was opened, and some of the top managers were quick to put their hand up in contention. Some of the competition included ex-Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal, ex-Tottenham manager Andres Villas-Boas and Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp.

Abramovich apparently sat down with FIFTEEN different people, and eventually came to the conclusion, Louis Van Gaal. The ex-Netherlands, Manchester United, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager has a large reputation, and despite having a poor first season at United and getting the boot, the Chelsea board has given him the role, with a contract that is supposed to last until 2016/17.

Welcome to Stamford Bridge, Louis Van Gaal
@walter - it is really annoying, I used to do a city save, and he was dominating and would then get injured. Long term.

@Coxy - we are in very good form at the moment, who knows how long it may take for us to get beat.

@griffo - I should never have trusted you

November Review

Hoffenheim VS Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Naldo (c), Miranda, Träsch, Arteta, Gustavo, De Bruyne, Henriquez, Depay, Lacazette

SubsGinter -> Naldo (65) Vitinho -> De Bruyne (66)

3-1
Miranda (12 pen), Depay (41), Lacazette (60)
Kevin De Bruyne

Dunlop's Notes
Disappointing not to keep another clean sheet, but another win is what we were after. The streak is now at 21, and it doesn’t look like stopping yet. A terrific effort from Depay, who scored a great goal and assist, thought he was going to be man of the match but De Bruyne's game was class. Even better news is that Bayern lost and Dortmund drew so we are now five points ahead.

Miranda is a class penalty taker

Wolfsburg vs Atletico Madrid

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Knoche, Miranda, Träsch (c), Blind, Arteta, De Bruyne, Henriquez, Lacazette, Jovetic

SubsNaldo -> Miranda (60) Khedira -> Arteta (71)

2-1
De Bruyne (3), Rodriguez (90+4)
Ricardo Rodriguez

Dunlop's Notes
Better late then never, and scoring this late makes it feel even better. This win also guarantees that we qualify for the next round, which was what was expected of us. Interesting how we score early and late, but I always had a feeling that we were going to win this game.

Wolfsburg VS HSV

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Naldo (c), Miranda, Träsch, Blind, Gustavo, De Bruyne, Henriquez, Lacazette, Depay

Subs Ginter -> Naldo (30) Olic -> Depay (30) Vitinho -> Lacazette (70)

2-1
Jansen (17)
Henriquez (40)
Ricardo Rodriguez

Dunlop's Notes
22 GAMES! 22 GAMES! We are just dominating at the moment, we have not looked like losing at all. Another terrific performance from Rodriguez and finally a goal from Henriquez. But things are looking up for Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg's star player, Ricardo Rodriguez

Blind Injured on Holland Duty

Wolfsburg will be having to play without midfielder Daley Blind for 3 weeks, after the Netherlands man was injured in their game against Czech Republic.

Fortunately for Dunlop, he has a very stacked midfield and finding a replacement will not be to difficult.

Koln vs Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Naldo (c), Miranda, Träsch, Bergamo, Gustavo, De Bruyne, Henriquez, Lacazette, Depay

SubsKhedira -> Gustavo (61) Vitinho -> De Bruyne (82) Ginter -> Miranda (82)

2-1
Henriquez (14), Naldo (40)
Angelo Henriquez

Dunlop's Notes
When will we lose? No-body knows, a very good first-half performance had me thinking that we were going to win by 4 or 5, but a very poor second-half let Koln. Get back into the game.

Wolfsburg VS Viktoria Plzen

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Naldo (c), Knoche, Miranda, Träsch, Gustavo, Khedira, Depay, Lacazette, Henriquez

SubsVitinho -> Lacazette (54) Ginter -> Miranda (61)

2-0
Knoche (12), Lacazette (38)
Robert Knoche

Dunlop's Notes
Another solid win, guaranteeing us that we will finish top of our group. Disappointing that Lacazette got injured, hopefully the report is positive.

Knoche is developing into a star for Wolfsburg

Koln vs Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Naldo (c), Miranda, Träsch, Arteta, Gustavo, Arnold, Henriquez, Jovetic, Depay

SubsGinter -> Arteta (61) Olic -> Jovetic (90)

2-1
Depay (45, 61)
Memphis Depay

Dunlop's Notes
Another important 3 points, we are really starting to dig in now, at this stage in the season, we need to be making sure that we get the points and not get lazy. A good double from Depay as he moves up the leagues scoring charts.

The Swiss defender has been in great form this month, picking up player of the matches like they don’t matter. With speculation that he may be leaving in the winter, performances like this months will be showing Dunlop how much he needs to hold onto him.

December Review

Bayern Munich VS Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Knoche, Miranda, Träsch, Arteta, De Bruyne, Henriquez, Depay, Jovetic

Subs Ginter -> Knoche (68) Gustavo -> Arteta (81) Lacazette -> Henriquez (110)

3-3P
Henriquez (42, 120+3) Depay (80)
Angelo Henriquez

Dunlop's Notes
WHAT A WAY TO BEAT BAYERN FOR THE FIRST TIME! I thought we were done for when they scored in Extra-time, but a great goal from Henriquez sent it to penalties. I could barely watch the penalties, I was so nervous , but our boys took it home! What a great performance from Horn as well. One more round of the cup down.

Mainz VS Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Naldo (c), Knoche, Miranda, Träsch, Gustavo, Khedira, De Bruyne, Depay, Jovetic

Subs Vitinho -> De Bruyne (67) Lacazette -> Jovetic (67) Ginter -> Khedira (67)

1-0
Träsch (90)
Depay (48)
Naldo

Dunlop's Notes
A very tough game, Mainz put up a terrific fight, and they were unlucky not to get any points. We on the other hand were very poor, the first half was disappointing, a good start to the second-half, but then it went downhill and Träsch getting carded topped it off. But then again the streak is now at 28…..

Wolfsburg VS Tottenham

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Naldo (c), Miranda, Träsch, De Bruyne, Gustavo, Vitinho, Henriquez, Jovetic, Depay

Subs Khedira -> Vitinho (77) Knoche -> Miranda (77)

3-3
Henriquez (12), Depay (72,80)
Memphis Depay

Dunlop's Notes
What a comeback, and the streak lives on. I thought when we went down 1-3, we were down for, the players looked unhappy, the fans were unhappy and I was frustrated. The team-talk at half-time was loud and I cursed many individuals, but those ones who were cursed were the ones who stepped up. The likes of Horn and Depay were strong in the second-half and were crucial in completing the comeback.

FINAL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TABLE

Wolfsburg VS Stuttgart

Wolfsburg Line Up
Horn, Rodriguez, Naldo (c), Miranda, Malanda, Blind, Gustavo, De Bruyne, Henriquez, Depay, Jovetic

SubsDepay -> Jovetic (61) Khedira -> Blind (67)

1-0
Jovetic (38)
Naldo

Dunlop's Notes
Another tough performance, but we get the streak to 30. FINALLY A GOAL FROM JOVETIC, but it was a solid performance all round and hopefully we can keep it up.

I am lost for words. I have nothing to say. Very disappointed.

Dunlop Says "No One Deserves to Win POTM"

After Wolfsburg's disappointing loss to Hannover last game, Dunlop has told the press that he will not announce a player of the month as they let themselves down in the last game.
Good month bar the Hannover game, great to see you finally topple Bayern! :)

Jovetic to Get Permanent Wolfsburg Deal?

Wolfsburg manager Alexander Dunlop is at the heart of rumours that their Loanee from Manchester City, Stevan Jovetic will make a permanent deal at Volkswagen Arena. The Striker joined Wolfsburg on deadline day and has had a mixed season in Germany, only scoring two goals in 9 appearances, but picking up 6 assists.

He has been quite injury prone since joining Wolfsburg, picking up three different injuries and missing a combined time of 5 weeks.

The buy-out clause on his contract was £11.25M, which Dunlop thought was a very respectable price. Especially considering that just two seasons ago he was purchased by the Manchester City side from Fiorentina for £22M.

Wolfsburg Transfer Rumours Heading Into Transfer Window

Dunlop has again sparked rumours that he is searching for two new players, a young LB and RB. He said that Rodriguez and Träsch are both incredible players, but Träsch is not getting any younger and they need to start looking for a replacement and Dunlop wants someone who is young and has plenty of potential.

The rumoured RB that is going to be signed by Dunlop is Leverkusen's 17 year old RB, Robin Tim Becker, who has been at the club for two years. The deal is rumoured cost around £12.25M eventually, but at the moment it is only going to cost the club £3.2M to sign.

Becker has made German U21 Appearances

The other player that Dunlop is rumoured to be putting an offer in for is 16-year old Slovakian LB from Manchester United, Marian Kotora. The LB came up the ranks in the United academy and is highly rated by many clubs around the World. He is rumoured to eventually cost Wolfsburg £13M if he completes all of his clauses, but at the moment, Dunlop will cough up around £2.25M for the youngster, a very solid price.

The two rumours that we have from English clubs features two of the top strikers in English football. Danny Welbeck and Romelu Lukaku are rumoured to be targets by Dunlop, after his English Scout David Beckham highly recommended them.

The more likely chance of signing, is United's Danny Welbeck. The English Striker has been at Manchester United all of his career and has recently been seeking a move away, despite having a good season to this point.

The United Fans do not want to see "that guy" leave Old Trafford

He is rumoured to be available for the price of £14M but Wolfsburg will be fighting the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea for his signature.

Wolfsburg are also looking at the Belgium man from Everton, Romelu Lukaku. The striker is a new signing at Everton, having joined from Chelsea last season, but Beckham told Dunlop that he rates the Belgium man very highly, saying he has great potential.

Lukaku is Developing into a beast
