Harris: We’re stronger than ever
Havant and Waterlooville skipper Ed Harris believes that the current crop of players make up the best squad the club has seen for a long while.
The Hawks were unlucky to miss out on a play-off spot in the league last season, however manager Lee Bradbury has moved quickly to strengthen his squad adding Ryan Young, JJ Hooper, Ben Swallow, Bradley Bubb, Brian Dutton, Brian Stock, Alan Connell and Rashid Yussuf on free transfers during the summer.
With the new signings came growing optimism among the fans that Havant & W were going to be serious challengers for promotion this season. The optimism has grown even more, following the first month of Vanarama Conference South fixtures as Havant endured an unbeaten month, winning 5 games and drawing 1.
When expectation mounts usually players tend to be reluctant in talking about such pressure but Hawks’ captain Ed Harris has done quite the opposite claiming that the squad assembled at West Leigh Park is the strongest he has seen during his time at the club and that the players themselves believe they can mount a promotion challenge.
The 23 year old said, ”I think that we all know there was mumblings of a promotion challenge from us this season, and the way we have performed so far, will definitely add to the talk. It’s not something we are shying away from either, the manager has faith in us to get promoted, and we believe we are good enough too. We missed out on the play-offs last season, but at the moment we’re stronger than ever, and certainly this is the best squad I have seen since I have been here.”
Well, the efforts of the team have already been noticed by others too, with Lee Bradbury collecting the Vanarama Conference South Manager of the Month award earlier today adding to the Vanarama Conference South Player of the Month award which was won by Hawks striker Alan Connell earlier in the week. Both were pleased to have been recognised, but admitted that it was ‘the whole team’s hard work’ which made it all possible.

Season One: September
With the season starting to hit full flow, it was important that the Hawks maintained their good form. An unbeaten month last time out was an excellent foundation for success in the remainder of the campaign, and left something to build on, as the club prepared for another set of difficult fixtures.

League Table
After 10 games played, Havant and Waterlooville are already top of the table, with our unbeaten record still preserved. Maidenhead trail in second by 6 points, meaning we already have an advantage in the bid for promotion, and all is going to plan thus far.
Player of the Month
Scott Donnelly picks up the award for ‘Player of the Month’ in September, stunning the supporter’s with some engaging performances out on the right wing. He bagged 5 goals in 5 games within September including a sensational 19 minute hattrick against Maldon & Tiptree in the F.A. Cup. The 27 year old also proved himself as a dead ball specialist hitting two fantastic free kick’s from long range while constantly whipping in crosses from the flank which were bound to present the striker’s with opportunities.
Overview
Another great month for the club, as 5 more games went by, and we still didn’t suffer a loss. Yet again there were some impressive wins on the way to achieving this, and we were also able to rectify some of our defensive problems too, keeping consecutive clean sheets. Our cup result was an additional positive, as we charged into the next round, where we will play VCD.
