CHRISTOPHE GALTIER INTERVIEW

Christophe Galtier celebrates after Islam Slimani puts his Olympique de Marseille 3-1 up against fierce rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

After steering Olympique de Marseille to second place in the 2016-2017 edition of Ligue 1, Christophe Galtier is being touted as the manager to bring the title back to Marseille this season. So far the club have made a flying start to the league campaign and have sat top of the table since the end of August. During this short interview with the manager, L’Equipe discuss the club’s title challenge and his future, with his contract running out at the end of the season.

L’EQUIPE: ”Christophe, firstly thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview. I guess we’ll get straight down to business. You narrowly missed out on the Ligue 1 title last season, but this year you’ve made a flying start to the campaign. Do you think you can go all the way this year?”

CHRISTOPHE GALTIER: ” Thank you. Listen, I’m not going to answer that question with a straight yes or no. If I said yes we could win it, and we don’t come May then I’ll look a fool. All I will say is that we are very happy with how the season is playing out so far. To beat Troyes 4-0 like we did the other day and with the comfort we did it in was fantastic and for it to keep us top is very pleasing. We’re about to enter a tricky run of fixtures but hopefully we can come out of them with as many points as possible and still be top and really looking like the side I know we are capable of being.”

L’EQUIPE: ”What about in the Champions League where you’ve made a flying start to a group nobody thought you could get out of. How far do you think you can go in the competition?”

GALTIER: ”Yeah, we’re absolutely delighted, I’m absolutely delighted. To even be in the competition is fantastic, so to be in with a real shot of qualifying after some brilliant results is, is, I don’t even know what to say. People will say, reading this, that we’ve drawn two games, but that’s still 2 more points than we were predicted to get, and the 6-0 win over Barcelona can’t be overlooked, just like it couldn’t have been if the scoreline had been reversed. We can’t wait for the final three games, and hopefully once they’re over we can actually be in the draw for the knockout stages of the competition.”

L’EQUIPE: ”Finally Christophe, it’s well publicised at the moment that your contract will expire at the end of the season. Is there anything you’re going to tell us, are you going to renew your deal or are you going to move to pastures new?”

GALTIER: ”Yeah, I know it’s up, and its’ on the back of my mind. But honestly I don’t know at the moment, there’s no new contract on the table at the minute. To the fans reading this, the only way you’ll know what’s happening is if me or the club releases something. By the end of the season everything will be clear as to just what’s happening.”

Hopefully a new contract is on the horizon, it would be devastating if the club's owners chose to neglect their heroic manager.
Very nice and direct interview

Alain Casanova Named New Olympique Lyonnais Manager

29 October 2017

Seven times Ligue 1 Champions, Olympique Lyonnais have named FC Nantes manager Alain Casanova as their new manager, after the board decided to sack David Moyes, just two weeks ago. During his 18 months in charge of FC Nantes, Casanova managed to lift the Coupe de la Ligue, beating Olympique de Marseille in the Final at the Stade de France back in April. At FC Nantes, Casanova won 26 of his 74 games, making his appointment a relatively surprising appointment, although the Lyon board clearly see the manager as the man to take Lyon up the table after an awful start to the season.

As much as I want you to become the best club in France, I hope he brings Lyon a ton of success.
Just caught up after a couple of days in the wilderness, cant believe Lyon sacked Moyes! Who would have seen that coming! :P

LEAGUE TABLE

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

LUCAS OCAMPOS

It’s been another very good month for the Argentine winger scoring another brilliant 6 goals including a second hat trick of the season this time against Troyes. Unfortunately for Ocampos, the teams performances in the latter end of the month weren’t up to scratch and his fantastic individual performances were in vein as Marseille slipped to two successive Ligue 1 defeats.

MANAGER'S THOUGHTS

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/59125d56-f5e8-4840-b0ca-92a5d93fea84.jpg

A month of mixed fortunes. We started really well with the victories over Stade de Reims and over Troyes and to score 7 goals in those two games was very pleasing. It would have been two clean sheets as well if Diego hadn’t scored a wonder goal, and we did extremely well defensively over those two games as well as offensively. Against Monaco, it was a game of really bad defensive errors for both sides and to lose was extremely frustrating and unfortunately we weren’t up to scratch and its cost us and now Monaco have the chance to go on and take top spot if they win their games in hands, but for us to then lose to Lorient was just down right poor. We’ve lost important ground in the race for the title now because Monaco will move clear now if they win their two games in hands. As for the Champions League game against Manchester City, at the start of the campaign, a point against Man City would have been massive. But for us to be 2-0 up and to throw that away was frustrating but we still have 5 points from a possible 9, where many people thought we’d have none. If we can pick up 5 points from the final three games we’ll have 10 points and be in for a very good chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
