Legenda - The career of Luka Elsner

• Any ugly foul riddled match with Heidenheim offers more of the same, another bore draw. This was possibly our worse match in terms of generating any attack - we were held to 6 shots, just 1 on target.
• Dortmund struck first with a goal by Pablo Alcacer in the 14th minute but Maxwell Cornet answered immediately in the 15th minute assisted by Origi. Origi scored one of his own minutes later, assisted by Klosterman before Dortmund got an equalizer from Mario Gotze in the 26th minute. An exciting 12 minutes of action to say the least. Cornet scores the winner on a beauty, assisted by Salcedo in the 50th minute! We hold off a furious final 40 minutes.
• We drilled OGC Nice in every area but goals, we finally got through in the 69th minute on a goal by wonderkid Alex Blesa, assisted by Cornet. We held them to 1 shot on the night.
• Hamburger controlled the first half but we tookover in the second half. Finally Cornet scored in the 75th minute, assisted by Griguol.
• A stunning response by the boys, playing our best match of the season. Antonio Marin with an amazing run covering almost the entire length of the pitch before Mats Hummels brought him down in the box in the 36th minute. Origi scored the penalty and we are able to see out the 1-0 victory!

Daniel Caligiuri

Caligiuri is still recovering from his torn ankle ligaments. He is on track to possibly play in February if all goes well.

Antonio Marin

Marin twisted his ankle in the FC Bayern match, forcing us to play the final 15 minutes with only 10 on the pitch. He should be back in time for our first competitive match in January.



Our victory against Bayern allowed us to jump them in the table and has firmly put Jurgen Klopp in the hot seat. Hoffenheim and Werder continue to be the class of the league with Dortmund not far behind.




We cruise to 2nd in the the group but get a terrible draw in the first knockout round. We will face Tottenham to start the knockout stage.

A solid string of results in the league, but a tough Europa League draw with Spurs to come for sure!

Still not scoring in the bucket loads but your incredible defensive record is helping you to many 1-0 wins. Three points is certainly better than one point, so no complaints.

• We make easy work of MSV Duisburg in our annual friendly behind goals from Uth and Origi.
• Hannover decided to start two 18 year old midfielders and we made them pay. We dominated the midfield but could not find the back of the net. Until our old friend Havard Nordveit scored an own goal in the 65th minute giving us the win.
• RB Leipzig hit us with two goals in the final minutes of the first half and we were devastated after controlling most of the half. Former Breel Embolo added his second goal of the match in the 68th minute. Our worst defense performance of the season.
• We looked headed for another bore draw against Stuttgart but Uduokhai gave up a penalty in the 81st minute and they converted. They added a goal in the 90+5' minute to add to our misery.

Daniel Caligiuri

Caligiuri is still recovering from his torn ankle ligaments. He should be available shortly. Thankfully Klostermann has stayed healthy during this stretch.

Nicolas Girguol

Griguol suffered a hip injury in training on the 19th of January. A tough injury to take given how much life he had given our attack over the past month. He will be out until mid-March at best.

Max Wober

More to come on Wober, see below. Wober suffered a pulled calf muscle in his first few days with the squad but should be back to training shortly.

Mark Uth

Uth went down on the 25th of January with a abdominal strain during training. He is expected to return in a couple weeks.

Nabil Bentaleb

Bentaleb was sent home after coming down with a virus on the 25th of January. He should be returning in a week. In recent weeks he has become very vocal against Luka Elsner.

A hard month to look back on results wise, but a good one to look back on transfer wise. Some very nice acquisitions.

Tough lately. Harit departing for a very measly fee is somewhat of a surprise to me!

for once our defense is equally as bad as our attack! As far as Harit, I agree and I was expecting more too

Not the best of months but still top four and if you can start scoring and see the defense return to their best, we may be looking at the top three very soon.

• A difficult match to start the month and Werder were by far the better team, simply dominating us from basically start to finish. Alex Blesa scored in the 84th minute to get us within a goal but we could not muster a shot the rest of the match.
• Divock Origi opened the scoring in the 3rd minute (assisted by Cornet) against Tottenham before scoring again in the 41st minute (assisted by Marin) to give us a 2-0 lead going into the break. We let up a critical away goal as Joao Felix scored in the 64th minute. Overall we played really well.
• A dreadful performance against Augsburg leading to a lot of questions around the media if Elsner's days were numbered.
• Fabrice Hartmann opened the scoring in the 2nd leg against Tottenham with a goal in the 33rd minute, assisted by Marin. Again we took the lead into the break but were constantly absorbing pressure. The 2nd half started with a goal by Jakub Jantko (recently bought from Stuttgart). We were still facing constant pressure until Salcedo fouled Harry Kane in the box. Kane converted the penalty to send us into extra time. In extra time Jantko scored again in the 104th minute and Kane put the nail in the coffin in the 118th minute. A devastating result.
• The board has warned Elsner that his performance must improve or he will be sacked.
• A motivated side took the pitch against Freiburg and we were able to handle them with little trouble, goals from Dahoud and Origi.
• The board has given Elsner the task of achieving 9 points in the next 5 matches or he will be sacked.
• We follow up with a nice victory away against M'Gladbach behind a goal by Mark Uth in the 45th minute.

A poor month to begin with in the league was salvaged with those two victories. I can't believe how unfortunate you were against Spurs. That's very cruel but in extra-time Spurs were always going to be the favourites.

Somewhat surprised to see the board issue an ultimatum and require you to meet a points target. I don't think you've done too badly, but it's obvious they have higher ambitions than I do. I'm confident you'll meet it with games against Wolfsburg and Frankfurt to come though.
