Manager’s August/September Review

The season hasn’t started as well as the previous two seasons have with 3 wins, a draw and 2 defeats, but what’s more worrying is the performances haven’t been anywhere near the level of last season. I don’t like making excuses but injuries have played a big part in our not so great start to the season and we will be hoping to put that behind us as we progress through the season.

The season started with a trophy as we beat Arsenal 1-0 in a close game at Wembley in the Community Shield. In the League Cup, we managed to win 4-3 away at Derby in a great game where Derby put up a really good fight. In the Champions League, we have started quite well. A win at home to Leverkusen and a point away at Lisbon has put us in a strong position after two games.

My player of the month goes to Vincent Kompany. Our performances haven’t been brilliant but our captain has shown everyone how it’s done by putting in some very impressive performances over the first couple of months of the season and he deserves this award from me.

Saturday 4th October 2014 – Stoke City v Manchester City (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Kompany, Nastasic, Toase; De Rossi, Toure; Nem, Aguero, Silva; Cavani SUBS – Forster, Zabaleta, Varane, Barry, Bale, Sneijder, Podolski

Stoke Starting XI – Begovic, Wilkinson, Shawcross, Huth, Wilson; Whitehead, Palacios, N’Zonzi, Surman; Borven, Crouch SUBS – Turnbull, Cameron, Jones, Sinclair, Macheda, Boyce, Caldwell

City today faced the team currently top of the League and left the Britannia Stadium with nothing. Despite taking the lead early, City weren’t able to convert their chances and a clinical Peter Crouch scored two goals before half time to secure a win for the current league leaders.

Final Score – Stoke City 2 (Crouch 39, 44) Manchester City 1 (Nem 7)

MOTM – Asmir Begovic

Attendance – 24,966
Ouch, it's been a bad few games :/
Ouch strange first games! Sure you can turn it around soon though. Good luck in the nex few games :)

Saturday 18th October 2014 – Manchester City v Southampton (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy; Milner, Toure, Lampard, Nem; Aguero; Cavani SUBS – Forster, Zabaleta, Varane, De Rossi, Bale, Sneijder, Podolski

Soton Starting XI – Heaton, Naughton, Kalas, Wilson, Ziegler; Davis, Lambert, Svensson, Schneiderlin, Ramirez; Rodriguez SUBS – Stech, Davies, Bengtsson, Ward-Prowse, Toivonen, Hooiveld, Forren

City and their players needed to respond today and they did do, a bad run of form, some unsettled players and slipping off the pace of the Premier League leaders meant a win was a must. City dominated the game from the first whistle to the last and three goals made it very comfortable for their fans. Bad news from the game is that Yaya Toure will miss 2-3 weeks.

Final Score – Manchester City 3 (Cavani 4, Clichy 25, De Rossi 90+1) Southampton 0

MOTM – Gael Clichy

Attendance – 46,840

Tuesday 21st October 2014 – Maribor v Manchester City (Champions League Group H)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Zabaleta, Varane, Nastasic, Clichy; Bale, De Rossi, Lampard, Silva; Sneijder; Cavani SUBS – Pantilimon, Richards, Kompany, Milner, Nasri, Barry, Aguero

Maribor Starting XI – Radan, Smitran, Rajcevic, Arghus, Cmrecnjak; Z Filipovic, Lesjak, Stojanovic, Tavares; Zahovic, Beric SUBS – Avbelj, M Filipovic, Volk, Crnic, Hotic, Novac, Horvat

City seemed to make hard work of what should have been an easy victory, when they took a two goal lead in the first half an hour many would have expected them to run up a cricket score but they didn’t and Maribor pulled one back before half time and it left City fans on edge for the rest of the game. The game did include Sneijder’s first two goals for City.

Final Score – Maribor 1 (Beric 34) Manchester City 2 (Sneijder 24, 26)

MOTM – Wesley Sneijder

Attendance – 12,239
There we go, picking up again now :)
Glad to see you getting back into the winning ways, even if it is with Manchester City. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Saturday 25th October 2014 – Nottingham Forest v Manchester City (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Bale; Nasri, De Rossi, Lampard, Nem; Aguero; Cavani SUBS – Forster, Zabaleta, Nastasic, Milner, Sneijder, Silva, de Jong

Forest Starting XI – Camp, Caddis, Chester, Lascelles, Harding; Gosling, Pedersen, Guedioura, Cohen; Cox, McFadden SUBS – fon Williams, O’Shea, Tierney, McManaman, Collins, Conway, Belle

City dominated the game but fell behind early in the first half, only for Aguero to make it 1-1 minutes later, but despite City’s dominance the second goal didn’t look like coming. But with seconds ticking down, a Richards cross was met by the head of Aguero who made it 2-1 with the final touch of the game.

Final Score – Nottingham Forest 1 (McFadden 14) Manchester City 2 (Aguero 17, 90+2)

MOTM – Sergio Aguero

Attendance – 28,768

Wednesday 29th October 2014 – Manchester City v Arsenal (Capital One Cup 4th Round)

MCFC Starting XI – Forster, Zabaleta, Varane, Lescott, Ramon; Zurak, Barry, Milner, Silva; Sneijder; Cavani SUBS – Hart, Kompany, Clichy, De Rossi, Bale, Blanco, Junior

Arsenal Starting XI – Szczesny, Mallo, Dragovic, Vermaelen, Aogo; Frimpong, Verratti; Gervinho, Holtby, Krejci; Llorente SUBS – Fabianski, Cazorla, Lucas, Giroud, Koscielny, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott

A brilliant all round performance from the City team sees them through to the Quarter Final of the Capital One Cup. A goal in each half and some solid defending were enough to see City through and Arsenal couldn’t break down City’s defense. In the Quarter Final City will face Wolves at the Etihad Stadium.

Final Score – Manchester City 2 (Sneijder 38, Bale 71) Arsenal 0

MOTM – Raphael Varane

Attendance – 47,405
Getting much better now :)

Manager’s October Review

The month started off badly in the League with a 2-1 defeat away at Stoke, but we made sure we won the other two league games this month, with a 3-0 win at home to Southampton and a 2-1 win at Notts Forest.

In the Capital One Cup we progressed to the Quarter Finals with a brilliant performance at home to a strong Arsenal side and will face Wolves at home for a place in the Semi’s. In the Champions League we won our only game in October away at Maribor, we dominated the game but the score line suggests it was a lot closer than it was.

My player of the month is Joe Hart. For the first time in over 2 years at the Club I have given the award to my goalkeeper. Joe made some crucial saves in big matches this month and he shows a lot of passion for the Club in every performance and keeps control of our defense. A special mention goes to part of that defense, as Matija Nastasic won the Premier League Young Player of the Month award.
