Kammy couldn't do it at Fulham, but can he do it at Southampton?

'We will make Europe' says Yoshida

Soutampton defender Maya Yoshida has said that his side can definitely make the Europa League this season. Speaking in an interview with Saints Player, Southampton's podcast, after being asked what his targets for the season were, the Japanese International said:

"Well on a personal level of course I'd like to score a few goals maybe and keep a lot of clean sheets, but for the team, do you mean? I want us to stay up, don't you? I know that is possible, but I think we should be aiming higher. I mean, we are 2nd in the table now, aren't we? We were even first, until City passed us. We have a good side, we have only lost once, but people expected us to be in a relegation dogfight. We aren't."

The interviewer then asked Yoshida what he thought should be the team's goal for the season.

"European football. We can definitely do that, because we are 2nd and we we are on good form, so we won't drop down. We certainly will be in Europe next year, and we are better than most sides in the Europa League when on form, so I'm hopeful, and we could even get some silverware."

The majority of pundits however, disagree with Yoshida, with the general consensus being that the side are just on good form, and that it will not last, and that Southampton may go tumbling down like Chelsea in the 1992/93 season, with a run of 11 games without a win that led to Ian Porterfield being sacked, despite the club being 2nd at Christmas.
Sitting pretty in 2nd European football should definitely be the goal now.

It definitely is! Of course, I don't expect Champions League football, but I think we could get that :) Thanks for reading and commenting as always :)

Again, it's brilliant to see more commenters :) And about winning the league, err, I don't think that's likely, but we'll do our best :)
Well, you got your wish, Louis ;)

Great Story. Just started reading recently. Can't believe the stats on Trotter!

Le Tissier's View

"Hello, this is another monthly edition of Le Tissier's view, a column written by me, Matt Le Tissier, about Southampton. We've had another great month in the Premier League and I admittedly, did not expect this. I was delighted after the win against Everton, but the performance against Sunderland was on another level. We did go out of the Capital One Cup, but that doesn't really matter because we are 3rd in the League Table, but with a game in hand over Arsenal and Man. City who are above us. We have been one of the shocks of the season so far, and I hope we can keep it up."

P.S. These updates will not normally come before the main results update, but the result update has taken a long time to do, and I don't like seeing my story on the 3rd page.
Great update. Don't like seeing my story anywhere besides the 1st page either! :))

3rd in the league is awesome. Keep it up!

Thanks Glenn, I don't know whether we can stay in European spots, but I hope we can :D
