Great win in the league, very City-esque

Lars Ricken: Champions League Press Conference

Hello Lars and congratulations on leading Dortmund to their most important match for 17 years. Do you think that you can win it?

Lars:Of course we can win it. There would be no point of us playing tonight if we were not going to a go at winning it. In fact I think we should win it. We have the better players. Their only real threat is of course Falcao, Mario Suarez is a very good player but he is as you know suspended. I think our attack will be too strong for them.

Has the draw been favourable throughout the competition and even for tomorrow?

Lars: Yes a little. The hardest game was the Bayern game and we of course went to the Allianz Arena and battered them. We were fortunate that Juventus beat Real Madrid and that we drew them in the semi's over Chelsea. We were also lucky that our opponents tomorrow beat Chelsea because Chelsea would be a very difficult game.

Do you have any special plans for the final tactically?

Lars: No, we will approach this game as if it was a home game against Mainz or a game away at Werder Bremen. We will play our flowing football with the passing and the ball going out wide. Also don't forget our threat from corners.

Thank You for your time Lars.

Lars: No problem
You should be able to win, it's only Atlético, they've got Falcao but not really anyone else who is that good :)

Hello and welcome to the big night. The second biggest game in Football. The Champions League final. Win this and you are the elite. Lars Ricken today has the opportunity to become part of the exclusive list of people who have won this competition as a player and a manager. Atletico Madrid are looking for their first Champions League crown ever. Dortmund however are the favourites. Lets take a look at how they got to the final. Dortmund topped the group beating AC Milan and Arsenal. In the first knockout round they narrowly beat Benfica. They drew Bayern Munich in the next round and destroyed them 6-1 at the Allianz arena. That was an amazing game.Bayern could not come back from that and they didn’t. The semi’s saw them play Juventus. It was a poor tie with Dortmund winning it 1-0 on aggregate. That of course lead them here. Atletico Madrid also topped the group stopping Roma and Cluj from progressing. They then beat Arsenal 3-2 in the next round . The quarters saw them clash with Barcelona. Atletico won on away goals. This meant that they played Chelsea in the Semi Final. They beat them 2-1 after a 2-0 victory at home. I hope this will be a brilliant game.

Atletico Madrid: Plamen Iliev, Filipe, Miranda, Diego Godin, Juanfran , Ruben Perez, Gabi, Arda Turan, Nicusor Stanciu, Koke, Falcao

Borussia Dortmund: Marc andre ter-Stegen, Marcel Schmelzer, Mats Hummels, Ryan Shawcross, Gotoku Sakai, Nuri Sahin, Sven Bender, Ilkay Gundogan, Mario Gotze, Marco Reus, Salomon Rondon

Kick Off

1st minute: We are underway here and hopefully it will be something like the 2005 final. Which was now 9 years ago.

44th minute: Gotze chases down the ball in his wide position and he’s pulled up here.Gotze had a calf problem earlier this year which kept him out for a few months and this could be the same thing.
45th minute: A poor game so far it’s even worse than the 2003 final with zero chances.

69th minute: Arda Turan whips the ball in to the box but Schmelzer clears and Blaszczykowski picks it up and runs with it. He gives it to Sahin who is tackled on the half way line but he wins the ball back with a fantastic tackle. He gives it to Gundogan who gives it to Bender who speads it out wide to Blaszczykowski. He just passes it inside to Rondon who’s unmarked and RONDOOOOOOOONNNNN. RONDON GIVES DORTMUND THE LEAD IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL.Fantastic break from Dortmund and it all started with a fabulous diving header from Schmelzer to clear the danger.

90th minute: Corner for Dortmund who are almost there. Sahin whips it in but Hummels can’t get there. Gundogan takes the ball and gives it back to Sahin who hits a first time cross and SHAWCROSS.Ryan Shawcross makes sure that the Champions League trophy will come back to Dortmund. Lars Ricken and his crew have done it and they are going mental.

Final Score: Dortmund 2-0 Atletico Madrid

At least it was slightly better than Juve-AC Milan in 2003 :P
Good job mate!

Post Match

We can go down to Geoff Shreeves who is on the pitch with Ryan Shawcross. It's great to see Ryan to take his career so far.I was close to him at United.

Geoff: Congratulations Ryan you are a European Champion.

Ryan: Yeah, it's the greatest feeling in the world. I never thought I would achieve this but I have and this is the greatest moment of my life. I've seen players go mental after winning this thing and I wished I could experience this too but I as I said before I never expected this.

Geoff: It was a very boring game for the viewers.

Ryan: I don't really care. I couldn't give a s**t as long as we won. Oh terribly sorry I'm not allowed to say that.

Geoff: That's OK. Now Ryan not only have you won the Champions League. You have been named the official man of the match for the final.

Ryan: WOW. This is just fantastic

Geoff: I'll let you get back to celebrations.

Always great to here from our Englishman playing abroad. He's surely now secured that place in the England world cup team.I'm sure he will be going to Brazil and maybe England can go all the way again.
