The Grand Finale

The final month of the season approached and I wasn't sure after the four games whether we'd be a Liga Zon Sagres side or a Segunda Divisão one, only one way to find out! We went out for our first game of the month against Gil Vicente, who were already in the promotion spots. An unlucky 1-0 loss may have just costed us a double promotion. The next game was against mid-table SC Freamunde, a must win game if we were going to win promotion. A drab 0-0 draw practically cost us promotion, but we still had hope of slipping in ahead of Vicente. Naval de Maio were next and we won 2-1 to keep our promotion hopes alive, but it was made harder when the news was confirmed.

This meant that a win in the last game versus UD Oliveirense was the last straw. But we also knew that it depended on results elsewhere. We played brilliantly and valiantly and like a team that deserved to be promoted but it was not to be, it only confirmed our third placed finish. Gil Vicente managed to confirm promotion.

The Final Table

We finished in third place in what could be considered a brilliant start to life in the second division. We came so close, so yes, it is a little disappointing but I know for sure that next year our young squad will have fully adapted and that we can mount a serious challenge for the title.

Author's Note

I know I just missed out on promotion, even though I left a final cliffhanger for the final month, but I hope that doesn't stop you reading the story. This has been my favourite save ever and I was gutted when we narrowly missed out. I will still update and I hope that you guys will still follow even if I didn't get the desired result. Thanks.
Gutted you just missed out mate, but there's always next year! :D
And of course we will keep reading (well, I will at least, this story has been class so far) :)

Season Review

2013-14 was a good season for football with many upsets in Portugal and over the world. Of course, it was also the World Cup. The World Cup winners came as a shock to everybody, but that will be revealed later.

Liga Zon Sagres

Winners: Sporting CP
Runners Up: FC Porto

Sporting CP's winning life under Manuel Pellegrini continued as they stormed home to the Liga Zon Sagres title, 15 points ahead of FC Porto. In winning the title, Sporting completed a famous treble, with van Wolfswinkel and Rui Patricio playing big part in the success.

Segunda Divisão

Winners: Vitoria Setubal
Runners Up: Gil Vicente

We finished the season in a fantastic position of third. only just behind Gil Vicente and Vitoria Setubal who are probably LZS quality anyway. Hopefully we can build on this. Jsut to finish the season off Oriental were named as the most improved club in Portugal!

2014 World Cup: Brazil

The World Cup is debatedly the biggest annual sporting competition on Planet Earth. It has been going strong since 1930, and this year the World Cup would be dancing to a samba beat as it travelled to the home of football Brazil. Brazil, the hosts, were looking for a 6th victory at the tournament while Spain wanted to win their second in a row, but how would the big guns fare and was their to be an update on the cards this time around?

World Cup 2014 Groups

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal were on fire, as their star Real Madrid man scored two hat tricks. In the semi finals were Republic of Ireland, Cameroon, Portugal and Brazil. The host nation still had a chance.

Now, you would think that the two to go through were Portugal and Brazil, right..?

Wrong

Somehow, both Cameroon and Republic of Ireland squeezed through and would play off in the final. Not since the days of Roger Milla had Cameroon done so well, and this was Republic of Ireland's first time in the final of the tournament.

The game finished 2-2 after full time, then 2-2 after extra time, leaving the match to be decided by the dreaded shootout. Who would have the nerve to lot home their pot kick and who would fail?

Yey! Sporting done the treble! As a Sporting fan, I'm delighted :D But how on earth did Ireland win the World Cup!?!
The World Cup isn't annual and the Summer Olympics are arguably a bigger sporting event, but nitpicking aside, even though you did well in finishing third, tough that you couldn't get promotion. What a wacky World Cup final! I'm sure the Irish are jeering the English that they've been able to win a World Cup trophy recently.

Haha under Pellegrini they have won the title twice I think and also the Cup :D And IKR?! It was crazy how they did it. Portugal did really well and Cristiano Ronaldo scored 8 or 9 I think. But I think we may have a new super power in world football... :O

True sorry :P Thanks eb and yeah well now they're equal on WC wins which is weird haha
Just read the whole story! Great first season and I'm gutted to see you miss out on promotion like that, I know how that feels :/ Anyways, I find it better if you didn't get promoted so easily because usually when that happens you go straight back down the next season, so good luck :D
